One thing that's perhaps gone unmentioned with regards to Horizon: Zero Dawn is just how polished the experience was at launch. We reviewed the game using unpatched pre-release code – a rarity these days – and we didn't encounter any bugs, glitches, or meaningful gripes. When you consider that the open world RPG is the domain of Bethesda's broken ass games, it's an achievement – even if you could argue Guerrilla's title is that little bit simpler.
Nevertheless, the Dutch studio has been proactive putting out patches for the title that not only address minor complaints but also swat any remaining rare progression issues. The latest update – v1.13, which is out now – includes a dozen or so quest tweaks, but also adds the option for you to drop treasure chests (welcome) and includes support for background music (at last). Both are such minor flaws that we never saw fit to bring them up, but it's nice to see the developer on the ball.

New Features
- Added support for background music playback.
- Added the ability to drop treasure chests.

Fixed an issue where some players could permanently lose the Tearblaster in their playthrough after selling it at a merchant. Not been able to use your spotify music was a strange omission, hopefully Sega and Atlus will follow suit in the coming weeks too.
That's a great shot of Aloy in the headline image there.
To be honest I had zero issues in my nearly 60 hours of play and I played at launch.
I think it crazy that we, as consumers, find it amazing that someone has provided a game that just works at launch rather than 3 weeks down the line. Not taking anything away from Guerilla, just that games release wonky now.
It means, for me, I'm going to support this developer next opportunity I get.
@Rudy_Manchego Yeah, it's crazy, but I do think it's worth pointing out. Horizon really was polished to within an inch of its life — it's a surprise these days, even though it shouldn't be.
I thought that most reviews and comments have stated how 'bug/glitch' free this game was and how well it performed from day 1.
I spent 75hrs in the first week playing this to get the platinum trophy and not once did I have an issue. Never had an issue with background music at all. The only treasure chests that annoyed me, were the ones that had 'rocks' in as I never used rocks once I had the 'whistle' skill.
Just proves that taking those extra months to really bug fix and polish was worth it!!! Still my Game of the Year and games are going to have to be something incredible to knock that off top spot!
I had zero issues at launch. Also, it managed to take the reign of my favorite PS4 game. It's being really threatened by Persona 5 though. Can't believe how great 2017 has been so far. To go back to back like this is incredible.
@get2sammyb No, completely agree, Guerilla should be praised for doing right by their customers. Credit where it is due and I think praising developers who do so is equally as important, if not more so, than moaning at developers or publishers that don't.
My Dad got stuck on The Point of the Spear, which is pretty early in the game. The sawtooth just wasn't there so he couldn't progress, tried a bunch of stuff before having to go back to a previous save. Made me a bit concerned since I'd not played it yet and googling the issue brought up a bunch of other progression-affecting bugs but I'm playing it now and not had any issues yet...
@Rudy_Manchego
I praised them already by buying full price at launch. I am yet to touch it but I wanted to support them.
Nice to even then see them fixing what few issues remain.
Randomly crashed on me in the open world once, but thats it. Guerilla should take away alot of credit for all of the polish they gave this game ahead of launch. Granted I am not far in so other bugs could rear up - but by the time I finish persona, I am sure that everything will have been squashed out
I wondered what that recent update was..first thing I did was check the trophy list to see if it was a secret upcoming dlc
But like people have mentioned,I bought and started this game day one,I'm 80 hours in and still not finished and have not come across one bug/glitch or anything..it's how all games SHOULD be!
Am I the only one who finds it weird someone would decorate the string on a bow with beads? I just noticed that..
@sinalefa same here - it also means I will more than likely purchase any DLC because I have faith that it will be something of value.
This game and Persona 5 show the level of care and attention some developers put in to their games. Persona is on a completely different level, that game has been tuned to within an inch of its life.
how does music playback through Spotify work I've never tried it, does it recognise when a cinematic is playing or something and stop the music?
Bit late, already got the platinum.
Think I got about half a dozen treasure chests with rocks in them haha.
I had no complaints. GOTY and it's not even close.
Having declared my scepticism about Horizon a few times here, I finally gave it a go yesterday when I was off work sick....
7 hours later I realised I'd become so caught up in the world that I'd forgotten to deliver Odd Grata her food! Needless to say I stand corrected.
It really is impressive that a AAA game like this launch so polished and without a season pass. I'll definitely pick this up at some point.
