Persona 5 is a certified hit for Atlus, as the company has announced that over 1.5 million copies have been shipped worldwide. We know that around 550,000 units were sold in Japan when it released last year, so that means roughly one million copies have been distributed around the rest of the globe. Given that the title's already starting to sell out, it's safe to assume that most of these units are already in consumers' hands.
It's a great number for a niche game, which will surely rise to two million units and beyond over the course of the year. Have you contributed to this statistic? Steal our heart in the comments section below.

the ps3 version is selling a lot also.it sold out in some stores.long lives the legendary ps3 word up son
I'm only a few hours in so far but I'm enjoying it far more than than any game in recent memory. I feel sorry for those who just buy the likes of GTA and are missing out on gems like this.
Also the steelbook is beautiful and takes pride of place in my collection
So Nioh and Nier Automata go for 1 million units sold each, and now Persona 5 goes for 1.5 million units shipped.
It's been a good year for the niche games.
@TrueAssassin86x The game's sold out in most places, so we can assume the sold number is very close to the shipped number — especially when you factor in digital sales as well.
It's well deserved, I'm still only on the first dungeon but it's on track to be my favourite in the series.
I've still got my Take Your Heart edition unwrapped. I've still got games to play atm and stuff to do, so may end up selling it; a quick browse reveals that there's too much competition at the moment, so may wait a bit. Would then buy the standard edition and soundtrack separately when I am ready to play.
It's excellent. I might be enjoying it more than Zelda which I never thought would happen.
First nioh sold 1M, then nier automata, then persona 5, japan is back
I've had it for 2 days and I've put in 17 hours. I literally can't put it down. I'm glad to see it's doing great. Maybe Persona 6 will be sooner than 9 years away?
I haven't bought it yet, but now that I've got a job with surprisingly good pay, it'll be with me before long with a PS4 in tow.
Brilliant sales. Reassuring as this surely demonstrates the viability of the genre outside of Japan. Japan's console market is practically dead but if developers know they have a strong audience elsewhere they'll hopefully continue making these sorts of games.
I bought the Take Your Heart edition! And I'm so pleased with this news Shin Megami Tensei in general is an amazing series and P5 may just be the best entry in the long running franchise!
Now I'm waiting for a remaster f both P4 arena and a new arena P5 this time!
Also waiting for SMTV on Switch!
Excellent news for another masterpiece of a game, this is easily one of the best generations for game's & for killing your saving.
I'm about 8 hours in and really enjoying it so far. They've done a great job getting me to care about the characters.
My favorite game of the year so far, and I've played Nier and Zelda as well. This is my first Persona, and I'll gladly buy a remaster of 3 and 4 if they decide to port them to PS4.
after talking to @shogunrok I decided to pick it up and I got the steel book which is beautiful. Really enjoying it so far but I'm only 2 hours in due to other things taking precedence.
@wiiware Agreed, so happy Japanese games are becoming popular again in the US, besides stuff like Final Fantasy.
@vegeta11 Good to hear!
@DerMeister
Congrats! Game on!
It deserves it, my only complaint is Igors voice but the original VA dying isn't something they can control as far as I know.
Back at work, wishing I was home playing Persona! This after spending half my night dreaming about it because I played for nearly a day straight.
