A quick heads-up for those out of the loop: PREY's demo is out now on the PlayStation 4 β in Europe at least. The opening hour is still planned for release in North America, but it looks like Bethesda has hit a snag that it's trying to rectify as we type. Hopefully that'll be sorted over the next few hours.
Still, for those of you that have had a chance to try it, what are your thoughts so far? Are you liking the game, or are you a bit disappointed with what you've played? Try not to name drop BioShock too many times in the comments section below.

This game does look right up my proverbial alley but I think I will wait for reviews and what the game looks like past the first hour. I would rather that then spoil it with the first hour that may not be representative of the whole game. Does this fall under Bethesda's no review copy policy?
Nice, I'll download it right away
I like the first prey but this is different game, the first one is quite good and unique.
@Rudy_Manchego Yeah, I doubt we'll get review code until launch day, so same time as everyone else.
I was never a Bioshock fan so hearing its like that game has given me little interest in playing it,however hearing there is a demo I'll give it a try.
oohhhhh yeaahhh this looks to be pretty great. That's my evening sorted!
Already downloading out of curiosity as I often do with meaty demos, but if it's anything like Bioshock, my curiosity has just been doubled.
@get2sammyb Hmmm I know that this is a blanket policy but I just distrust it. It always makes me think it is a stinker (even if it isn't). I can see the reason why and it works in favour of the publisher if the game is bad or just 'ok' but I think it impacts good games negatively. I really think this hurt the profits for Dishonored 2.
Sorry, thread derailed. Normally I'd be right on this style of game and I hope it is good as it evokes Dead Space 1 in what little I've seen.
@Rudy_Manchego Completely agree with you, but it's up to Bethesda at the end of the day. We just have to work with it the best we can.
@get2sammyb Yeah, not much you can do if it is witheld. I just grumble about anti-consumer policies from publishers!
@get2sammyb North America version of the demo is up and a-okay now!
@Rudy_Manchego Nothing wrong with trying the demo yourself and then waiting for reviews before making a decision (especially if you think you'll like it). Well unless of course you wanna experience it more as a whole.
I've downloaded the demo and probably gonna take a quick break from Persona 5 to play it later today. Prey is one of my most anticipated games this year, so it'll be interesting to see how the first hour plays out. Hope the story/narrative/characters aspects are better than in Dishonored.
Im not sure how I feel about it, It is very Deus EX Mankind Divided in style and gameplay, I mean the the very opening few minutes are exactly the same as how DEX MD starts.
I'll be curious to see how the reviews are for this, for more information about it
Very interesting first hour. A very conventional opening quickly became something else. This game has a lot of potential I reckon! I just mainlined it to get a feel for the game so will spend more time exploring and playing with the GLOO gun etc once I get the full game.
Good so far, nice surprises and the mimics are unpredictable, died alot....π
I don't really know what I think of it. It seemed great at building atmosphere and tension at first, but when they really came into it I ended up finding the mimics to be more of an annoyance rather than an interesting enemy. I'll need to know more about the other kinds of creatures and their part in the final game before I decide if I want to take a punt on it. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and mystery but a game full of annoying enemies would just drive me crazy.
Oh and the music felt so in your face. When the mimics popped up it would ramp up so loudly and stay loud long after every enemy was dead.
I really like this game.I played the "first hour" for like four hours. I actually missed the shotgun at first and pretty much played through the whole thing with just the wrench. But I loved exploring around and reading the lore and stuff. I love the mimics,It reminds me of playing prop hunt in TF2.
@Gatatog Yeah I turned the music down in the setting after my first enemy encounter.
It's definitely interesting. I played this in two sittings, and enjoyed the second one way more than the first one. Some random thoughts:
1. It definitely feels like an Arkane game, a lot of similarities with Dishonored 2, splashed with some Deus Ex.
2. So far I'd agree that the Mimics work better on paper than in the game itself.
3. The music is interesting and overall one of the strong points of the demo, HOWEVER the way that they decide to implement it is kinda annoying.
4. Seems like it could be difficult, at least in the beginning (I died several times).
5. Lastly, I'm not sure this particular demo is very representative of the final product because those type of games focus on testing, mixing and matching different abilities and various paths and naturally there isn't much of it present at the very start.
I like that people are saying it has similarities to Deus Ex and Dishonoured. Downloading now.
@ApostateMage It's definitely similar. I'd say it resembles Dishonored 2 the most by the way it looks, plays and handles the narrative (at least at the beginning), and Deus Ex/System Shock more because of the setting and all that comes with it.
First thing I did when I got home was downloading this demo. I only played 20 minutes but it looks very good for now. I'm a big fan of Deus Ex and Dishonoured. In my opinion, Dishonored 2 was game of the year material.
Long as they do this with all Bethesda games now, this will help people make their minds up as their review embargo practice isn't the greatest
