After a prolonged period of Xbox exclusivity, Max Payne maker Remedy Entertainment has revealed its intent to release its next game on the PlayStation 4. The developer β most recently behind slow seller Quantum Break β has said that it's adding support for Sony's system to its proprietary Northlight Engine.
The Finnish firm's also hard at work on a new game codenamed P7, which it aims to release on a "wider range of platforms" β including the aforementioned PS4. Unfortunately, additional details on the project are scarce, and knowing Remedy, we won't be playing it until at least a couple of years into the lifecycle of the PlayStation 5.

Alan Wake 2?
@SPGFan34 Could happen. Remedy owns the IP as far as I understand.
They have ideas for a new Max Payne, if Rockstar would let them...Honestly I don't care who does it, I just want more Max! He's my third person shooter hero. Screw Nate.
@JoeBlogs I really enjoyed Alan Wake when I played it many moons ago and remember it being actually quite scary in parts. One of the better 360 games that I played.
They could make max payne 3, the first and second one is great.
Alan wake story is interesting but the gameplay is just too bland, just walking and shooting, way different than max payne series.
@wiiware
(I know it wasn't Remedy, but...)
@get2sammyb Perhaps its his sly way of insinuating MP3 isn't a true MP game lol
I really enjoyed Alan Wake. It had an interesting story and the concept was interesting too. Light played a big factor in the game - including transforming enemies from 'Ghosts' to being killable so you had to manage you torch batteries and use light.
The game itself was very much a Stephen King type story and I really enjoy his books and maybe enjoyed it more as a result.
Can't say Quantum Break had any appeal to me at all. Not interested in watching a mediocre TV series after each chapter and the game-play was 'mediocre' and inconsistent too.
I really enjoyed MP3 by Rockstar. I thought they did an excellent job and would happily buy another MP game from them...
It would be great if Remedy can come up with something to rival Max Payne or even Alan Wake. I hear they are looking more at MP now too which kind of has me concerned...
@kyleforrester87 max payne 3 remains one of my favourite games from last gen. My expectations were low going in; but it was fantastic
@Rob_230 Agreed, if there is one remaster we're missing it's that!
I'd love another Alan Wake, a true gem of the last gen!
I hope they put some serious time into that engine if they plan on keeping it around for awhile. QB ran like absolute garbage on PC and xbox one, even after multiple patches and fixes.
@get2sammyb I didn't know that. Alan Wake was one of my favourite games on the 360 so I would go nuts for a sequel. Quantum Break wasn't in the same league, unfortunately.
Alan wake!!!
"Welcome to the family son"
@JoeBlogs Alan Wake is solid, but it really gets old quick. Worth a go but other than the story your not missing much as loads of better linear action games have come out since.
Nice welcome to ps community! Hope they find success and new fans to enjoy their games: )
please Alan Wake
or maybe that is a VR game who knows
I see this as quite an interesting shift considering their last games released first on Microsoft platforms. I would say more recent games but with Remedy that doesn't exactly apply, as much as I love them.
I'll also back @BAMozzy up on Alan Wake. Its strongest aspect was its narrative for sure, and there are some moments of genius near the end of it.
@kyleforrester87 antihero*
i thought it was the UWP that microsoft insisted upon was a large part of the blame for quantum break running like crap on PC?. i know a few friends and colleagues that play on PC and will just avoid the windows store like the plague.
@JoeBlogs Alan Wake was brilliant - if you have a 360 sitting be sure to play. Fantastic atmosphere (feels like Stephen King novel) and plays great in terms of combat. A true last gen gem.
@JoeBlogs I remember playing it a few years ago and i really enjoyed it. It's an atmospheric, story-driven third person action game and it has a very offbeat, interesting psychological thriller storyline and the core gameplay experience is a little bit similar to Until Dawn. It's got a cult following and many people have said it deserves to get a sequel for years. The new Prey that's coming out reminds me of that game. Well worth a look. It's probably only a few quid now if you're interested and you own a 360. I enjoyed it, my sister got obsessed with it, and i'm sure you would if my description appeals to you.
@get2sammyb I wouldn't hold my breath though and it will probably be a new IP. The developers are keen on making it but there not sure if it would be financially viable and many years have passed since the last game, not to mention nobody really knows who holds the rights to the franchise. Mind you, with so much Kickstarters and Crowdfunding going around today, you never know. They could end up making AW2 one day, or maybe a spiritual successor to the game.
@JoeBlogs Oh ok, nevermind. It's just a game. They are remastering everything nowadays though, so there might be a remastered edition come to PS4 one day. Don't hold your breath though.
