Bloody Nora, we'd forgotten about this one. Saints Row developer Volition been busy beavering away on Agents of Mayhem for what feels like an eternity, while everyone else casually forgets that the Double Silver published shooter even exists. C'mon, you'd forgotten about it, hadn't you? It's okay, you can admit it.
The single player, open world, third-person shooter's big hook – aside from being set in Seoul, of course – is that with each mission you'll pick three of twelve heroes, and you'll be able to toggle between them on the fly. The new trailer looks okay we suppose, but the irreverent humour's going to prove an acquired taste.
It's due out on 15th August in North America and 18th August in Europe.

I was just thinking the other week about this game, how we hadn't heard anything for a while. I kind of got bored of the Saints Row series and its (lack of) humour after SR3. That was literally 1 smutty 'joke' prolonged over the whole game. Not being a 13yr old pre-pubescent who 'giggles' at anything remotely about sex (ie not Beavis or Butthead). I got tired of the franchise.
The artstyle of this reminds me of Borderlands with a bit of Overwatch thrown in for inspiration. Still not entirely sure what the game is trying to be, what it will offer as game-play. Sounds a bit 'Mass Effect' in picking 3 from a squad in a third person action - except you can swap between these as opposed to always being a specific character and letting AI control the others with only minimal control over their movements (ordering them to certain points).
Will have to see more, but as for right now, its not on my 'pre-order' list!
Apparently this is actually set in the Saints Row universe. Maybe this means the next main entry will be more like 1 and 2, with all the crazier stuff being in this spin-off. I wont get my hopes up too much.
I agree, from the trailer I can't say it looks like a single player game at all.
I hadn't forgotten about this game I just haven't been interested.Saints Row 2 was fantastic but the others have been pretty bad...although Gat Out Of Hell was a bit of fun.So I haven't really got much confidence in this being very good, especially when there is a ridiculous amount of top quality games out there to choose from.
Will be interesting to see how this turns out.
@Orpheus79V It is supposed to be in the same universe but how it ties in, if at all I don't know. Its possible that we will see references to the 'Saints' and maybe even be the president who set up the Mayhem agents to tackle this evil.
@Eternallover21 It looks like it could be a more comical take on Destiny. I almost think they could be missing a trick by not having 'co-op' although I guess that would also limit the player to one specific character instead of swapping between them. I still don't know what the game is trying to offer. I do wonder if its trying to be 'Crackdown' with the twist. Clear areas of the city from gang leaders before embarking on a final quest to take out the head honcho with no specific set path. Still yet to see any real game-play - not just cinematic snippets pasted together but a good 5-10minutes of actual game-play. Horizon, Days Gone, God of War etc all showed off game play and whilst it could be 'misleading', it does give a good indication of what you will be doing and the general gist of that. It does seem rather late in development, coming out in 4 months and we have yet to see anything more than a couple of trailers. I would be very surprised if that's enough to 'sell' a game - especially a new IP...
If they don't pick up the marketing for this one fast, I'm not gonna be optimistic for the sales of this one. Looks good too, it'll be a shame if it doesn't do well but matches the quality of the gameplay from E3 last year.
This is a sad article all around. Of course I didn't forget this one - Saints Row 3 and 4 ARE AMAZING games.
Look: its super simple. F**k marketing. People shouldn't care about games because they're being louder than other games (aggressive marketing is the only reason turds like Ghost Recon find success, I figure). People should follow **talent**. If Volition announces a new game, I REMEMBER IT.
I've been looking forward to this since it was shown off at IGN's E3 thing last year. You guys worry me sometimes, Pushsquare....
From the developer that gave us the weird and wonderful Saints Row franchise this just seems very plain and boring.
I'll have to watch this when I get home since I doubt it'll be work safe. But I love the Saint series in all its camp gloriousness. This might work its way on to my buy list or add to the pick up cheap later list. This amount of games in 2017 is absurd.
If its anything like Saints Row with it PS2 graphics, oh boy.
This looks like a good, old fashioned fun type of game.
