Resident Evil 7 is considered, by many, to be one of the best experiences that can be had on Sony’s PlayStation VR headset. It’s exciting, then, that Capcom is bringing more Biohazard to virtual reality; less exciting is the fact that Vendetta Z is merely a free experience designed to promote the upcoming CGI movie, Resident Evil Vendetta.
Due out on 24th May in Japan, the complimentary commercial will see you essentially assume the role of a zombie. This is one of those one-and-done type interactive sequences, a bit like the Joshua Bell performance. Still, you can get a rough idea of what it’s like via the archived stream above; there’s no word on whether this will launch in the West, but we’d be surprised if it doesn’t eventually.

Oh man that headline was a tease. Probably for the best though, I'm too scared to play RE7 in VR on my first playthrough.
RE7's VR was incredibly bad. I didn't think that game could get any clunkier or cheesier, and boy I was wrong. Not to mention how either boring or nauseating it is play through depending on your difficulty(On easy you can't die at all, and on harder difficulties where you need to quick turn you'll need a vomit can near you.) or how long you want to suffer though having red damage veins all over your screen.
I cannot believe that so many people think that game's VR was one of the best VR experiences on PSVR... Well maybe I can considering some of the junk that is available for it.
@Constable_What Oh! I think you're in the minority, sir.
@get2sammyb What does that matter? And also what proof to you have?
@Constable_What I-I-I... I'm not having a go. I'm just saying a lot of people really like it.
Good grief!
No Thank, i hate PS VR so much after i tried it out at Gamestop
@get2sammyb I didn't think you were having a go. I thought you were trying to have a conversation! xD
@get2sammyb Totally agree, one of the best gaming experiences I have had the pleasure of in 35 years of gaming. Considering that PSVR is only about 7 months old there has been plenty of decent titles released as well as showing loads of potential.
Saying RE7 is incredibly bad is surprising but each to their own.
Shhhhh.... alt accounts....
Also loving the vr need to pick this up later but that money...
Another person that loves RE7 in VR. It's absolutely the best way to play it. First time I've ever felt that tense playing a game. Amazing!
I've only played portions of RE7 in VR, but it is incredibly tense. It's really a great feeling to be inside the actual game. It's so much more immersive than playing on a flat screen.
Another nice experience, that is also free, is the Chainsmokers' Paris. It's an on rails ride along with a good song and multiple paths to choose from. You can interact with the environment and the 3D sound goes into remix mode if you look behind you. It's pretty sweet! And FREE!
@BladeRider Do you mean me? Sorry if I have a different opinion, but I'm not an alt. No harm no foul though.
If capcom want vr resident evil, they should add first person perspective on resident evil remake 0 & 1. Seeing the fps mods in re remake 0 &1 on pc make me think those 2 game can be made for vr with little tweak.
@Constable_What Resident evil 7 score 86% on metacritic, it's a good game.
@Constable_What I can totally understand your points, especially if you're prone to motion sickness. But without the VR, RE7 wouldn't now be my favorite horror experience of all time, held before by Amnesia. It's really something else being able to peek around corners and investigate the little (albeit slighly blurry) details of this intricately-designed house.
@wiiware I never said it wasn't I just said I didn't like the VR portion (I really like RE7)... Also citing Metacritic is pretty weak, imo. For comparison Resident Evil 6, which is considered to be absolutely terrible by a lot of Resident Evil fans, has a 74. I like to form my own opinions, but that's just me. You do you. xD
@Totaldude911 And that is a great opinion to have! Because it's yours and it holds true to what you think. I liked Resident Evil 7 a lot, but I didn't get it on release. My friend kept pestering me and pestering me to get because I got Yakuza 0 and KH 2.8 instead. He was really hyping it up and he told me that VR was the definitive way to play it (based on what he heard, he doesn't have a VR headset). I don't scare easily and I am a little prone to being motion sick (I can only play for about an hour and half without taking the headset off). I wish I was able to interact with the house and the props inside it a lot more, and I wish the combat felt more satisfying in VR (I thought it was weak without the headset on). I ended up just taking it off and doing without it.
I think a lot of it is just me. Horror games feel very boring to me. It's incredibly hard for me to care or be absorbed by atmosphere in games. It does very little for me. I prefer character driven horror where I can draw parallels between myself and what I'm experiencing through a character's eyes. That stark realization that the character you're playing, the person who grows ever darker and twisted, isn't really do much different than yourself. It makes your heart sink.
Those Heart of Darkness moments, thoughts that keep you up at night, moments that make you want to change who you are as human being. It's why I love the Last of Us.
That's why RE7 VR dissapointed me. I wanted to feel something I otherwise wouldn't be able to in the real world. But the character in which you experience the world was too one dimensional for me to make a connection to. That's the kind of VR experience I want, I want to be inside the skin of an avatar that feels.
I hope that makes sense.
@Constable_What That actually clarifies your stance a lot. What you've just described is exactly why I love Silent Hill 2 so much. The character in RE7 doesn't speak as much as I'd like and therefore has very few outlets of characterization. He's just kind of a dude who has a wife.
@Totaldude911 I love that game too. Truth be told, I am a much bigger Silent Hills fan than a Resident Evil fan. I was physically disgusted when Silent Hills was canceled... I even enjoyed the not so good ones in the franchise. Feels bad man.
As for the RE7 protagonist I like to joke with my friends that the protagonist in RE 7 is actually Borat...or Ethan Bradberry...both.
Ethan: "I'm Ethan Bradberry and I need to find ah-mah-wiife"
That's probably why I can't get scared. I'm just cancerously regurgitating unfunny memes the whole time. Snickering like a loon. I need a character I can relate to so I can properly insert myself into the situation! Ethan Winters is too top kek for me to feel scared. I went through the whole game swinging my knife around giggling like an idiot and repeating meh nameh Jeff. Until I got to the Lucas part, and then the Mia part; those parts made the game for me. Mia is a much better character than Ethan; she had more depth than a spit puddle in summer at least.
I would LOVE to play RE1 in VR Can't see them redoing it tho for VR
@Constable_What oh no, I meant that if u had an alt Jp account you could get the vr demo. But nobody seems to think about do its a secret. Sry ahould have been clearer and read the prior comments b4 posting lol
@BladeRider I should do a better job at not jumping to conclusions lol. Also you should have just played along! Now the secrets out... But probably not. xD
@Constable_What Its not that hard to get an alt account for jp, I also have a sigapore and chineses one, singapore is great if u like to import jp games . The reason is jp will subtitle and change menus to english and release them on sigapore psn but not release em west. Thats a pro tip lol.
@BladeRider and less expensive than buying physical copies u have to import.
