Jeeeeez, when will it end? For weeks now we've been struggling to make articles out of the latest Japanese sales charts because... Well, there really hasn't been much to write about from a PlayStation perspective. Unfortunately, that's also the case this week; not a single new PlayStation 4 title entered the top 20.
Of course, this was always going to be a yawn-inducing edition since it was a national holiday in Japan last week. As such, all hardware sales dipped to some degree, with Sony's current-gen console managing just 12,334 units.
See you next week, we guess.

Japan gives me hope for a future portable PlayStation.
I should get @ShogunRok some citalopram if this keeps up. Poor sod seems depressed.
Everything's gearing up for Dragon Quest XI next month, so if anything is gonna shift hardware that should.
The switch sales are starting to slow down - it basically sold half the numbers of the week before. Could be hardware shortage though.
@Feena probably a combination of shortages and people just holding out for a splatoon 2 bundle/special edition.
@Feena yeah I noticed that too. I mean PS4 sold constantly like 30 to 40K for how many months?! And Switch sale figures seem to decrease strongly. But it really might be lack of consoles at their stores.
@Feena Hardware shortages/Lack of interesting new games/Post-holiday slump. I would expect Japanese sales to stay lower until something like Splatoon 2 releases.
Same with PS4, really. They need something to interest the Japanese audience.
15 of the top 20....four of them are multi-million sellers. Their NPD sales are great too, Nintendo is making a killing
The best selling console is also the hardest to find.
I think that's an oxymoron.
Going to be interesting to see what happens when Dragon Quest XI hits. Will it shift more PS4s or Switches?
@Feena aaaannd the splatoon 2 bundle just got announced for japan
@Gamer83 Worth pointing out it isn't on Switch at launch, though. Only PS4 and 3DS. Both obviously look totally different so that's definitely going to be interesting.
Either way, Square Enix is going to be swimming in moolah.
@ShogunRok
So basically two launches for it then. Yeah, SE will make a killing.
@manu0 true, but it has only a week before Dragon Quest XI. That is going to take Japan by storm and sell a lot of 3DS and PS4. I am sure Splatoon 2 will have long legs like all Nintendo's big titles though.
@Feena you sure about that? https://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/bestsellers/videogames
@manu0 that is impressive but yeah 3DS and ps4 have a much bigger installed Base, DQ11 will probably sell 2-3 times what Splatoon will in the first week. It may have longer legs though
