Yesterday we witnessed the full reveal Destiny 2. Bungie dropped so many details that we're still trying to wrap our heads around everything that was talked about, but the bottom line is that it all sounds pretty good. Well, we think it does, at least. You may not agree with us, though, and that's why we're here today to ask for your initial thoughts on the sci-fi sequel.
Overall Bungie seems to be playing it safe with Destiny 2. It's a fresh start in the sense that everything's being reset; your progress in the original Destiny will count for very, very little, and this means that newcomers won't feel completely left behind. What's more, previews of the game around the internet highlight its familiar feel, with many of them noting that the first mission of the campaign - named Homecoming - could have been present in the first game and no one would have really questioned it. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, we suppose.
But the veteran developer was never going to rewrite the book with Destiny 2. The original was such a success that the studio would have to be mad to stray from the formula, and so we appear to be left with a sequel that mainly focuses on being bigger and better than its predecessor. You could even argue that this looks like the game Destiny should have been from the start.
That's enough from us for now, though - we want to know what you think. Has Destiny 2 caught your attention? How do you think it looks? Are you excited for its September release? Are you an experienced Destiny player, or are you a newbie? Vote in our polls, and then feed us your thoughts in the comments section below.

"Are you ready to shoot more aliens?"
Are you also ready to pay the price of the game three times over again?
But no it looks good, still not for me though. We saw the model of the original Destiny. Makes me wonder if they can get away with it twice.
The answer is yes, but you know, we can hope.
Honestly I think they've gone back a step. More features and content but absolutely none of the atmosphere that made the original so intriguing (until it ran out of content, anyway). I really want to love Destiny 2 but it's just not doing it for me based on what I've seen so far.
Hard pass. FPS and me do not mix.
Perhaps it's unrealistic to want otherwise, but I think it just looks like another dlc for destiny 1. I was hoping for something new and different
It doesn't really look inspiring or seem intriguing, just looks like a larger DLC pack? I give it 4 mehs but I'll wait until I see some more
I think it has a lot of potential - still not 100% convinced that all the issues I had with the years 1-3 will be resolved but I do think they have addressed a lot. The fact that they are also making the game purely for 'next' gen (now current gen) consoles may have helped a lot - like the need to go to orbit, much more content in the larger open areas etc. I understand that the PS4/XB1 is probably a big reason they are not increasing the frame rate to 60fps and can't do that for Pro/Scorpio either because of the base consoles.
Over the course of Destiny, I must admit some things grated - not necessarily the content (or perceived 'lack of' in DLC) as I often got a lot of hours worth - more than most full priced AAA games could offer but often that made so much of the earlier content redundant and then expected us to be 'happy' when they eventually made it relevant again. You know that Buying Destiny 2 is likely to be an 'initial' purchase and that at least once a year (if not more) additional cost are going to be necessary to keep playing.
I've pre-ordered the digital with the expansion, my first major game, full price, digital purchase. I decided this because D2 offers improvements across a number of areas, especially the matchmaking, maps and the removal of the need to go into orbit to find games., The addition of side-mission 'adventures' and bigger world all appealed to me.
I've been playing Destiny on and off since it launched and yes it's had its fair share of problems. Most of these unfortunately seems to effect those who had invested from the beginning more than anyone who joined later. The early expansions were a bit of a mess and a bit steep for the content but I feel they found their feet from the Taken King onwards. If you buy Rise of Iron today as a newcomer then you're getting one of the best if not best value games on the PS4, with a wealth of content, superb shooting and a lot of its early issues ironed out.
Watching the livestream it sounded like that have addressed a lot of the issues it had, with a bigger focus on exploration and not constantly having to go to orbit to create a more seamless experience. This coupled with the gameplay looking as good if not better than before and I'll be preodering for sure
I've never played, other than playing round a friends at launch (before I had a PS4) and played through a load of the story. When I got a PS4 it felt too difficult to get on board.
I like the look and am thinking maybe to get on board with it as a new release but the idea of more and more paid content puts me off. I may get it - just haven't decided yet.
I want to get this but realistically there is going to be some sort of collection that will come out a year later with all the expansions thrown in so I might wait till then.
Be interesting to see if they sort a demo out again. The demo for the first was somewhat (unintentionally) misleading to how the game would play overall.
The game itself became stale and an ever pointless grind for me and many others. I hope they have at least learnt their lessons from the first game and give those who do purchase the second a full and involving product straight out of the box.
I dislike multiplayer competitive shooters so I will not be buying this. The only shooters I really like are games like Prey and Deus Ex, that also have heavy rpg elements.
I haven't really given it a look. I'm a fan of Bungie and Halo, but Destiny hasn't really gotten me hype. It looks cool, but it doesn't scream "must play" to me.
As a Day 1 Destiny player that's still currently playing and greatly enjoying the game, I had the sequel pre-ordered the second it was available.
The people saying no to FPS and no to Competitive Multiplayer shooters, well, unfortunately you've misunderstood what Destiny is. Never mind.
Boring comparisons to year 1 Destiny should really go away. The game has changed a lot in the last 3 years. I have no idea why people are assuming Destiny 2 will be identical to day 1 Destiny. Never mind.
@zazzy
My sentiments exactly. Destiny's gameplay is very good and one of the reasons I keep coming back. Also, I don't mind paying for DLC when its a game I enjoy playing. I never touched the Crucible in the final game. I tried it in both the open and closed Betas and it never clicked with me.
Not my sort of game.
From the worlds that thay showed to all the new stuff thay showed & spoke to us about, it looks a lot better than the original Destiny when that released. I think it'll do well and people will get to play some of it before launch via the Beta, so it'll help make there minds up. I am sold on Destiny 2, it looks a lot better thay've addressed problems that was made towards Destiny etc.
It seems interesting as did the first one, I just don't have the time to put into a game like this, that's one of the reasons I quit playing WoW.
I learned my lesson with the original. I'll be holding off on it, but if it comes out and is great with an actual story I might pick it up.
Will get the turbo edition in three years time
I'm done with this "always online" crap. I gave it a shot with Destiny, The Division, and Overwatch, and I got burned on two of the three. I'm done.
I never tried the first one, and watching that trailer I will not try the second one either.
I played through the second expansion cause I preordered Destiny with the two xpacs but I haven't played since then. I can't say I'm not going to pick it up for some MMO fun at some point but it will not be in 2017. I could see if they did something like they did when the Taken King dropped and released everything for 80 I could be enticed back into the world of Destiny but not any time in the near future.
Bring it on.
Not sold on it yet. Will wait and see.
I don´t get it why people complaining about having to pay for expansion packs for destiny. Put it this way, expansion packs will keep you playing destiny for years. At least it did with me. Instead of wasting money buying new games, which I most likely would, I put money into destiny playing the same great game.
So for those of you who need a hardcore destiny gamer on your friends' list, add: SajidAmin. I can help you out in Raids, nightfall etc.
I watched the game play trailer out of curiosity as this site is really trying to sell it the last few days. It looks like a really boring universe to me from what they demoed. Like the first one it really seems to lack something critical, there's no soul.
I guess I just don't get it. I suppose I've saved a lot of money considering their pricing model so hey ho, always a silver lining.
Probably will get the complete first edition again, play it, then get the second one
most of the end game content was locked away from me because I couldn't build a fire team IRL and they wouldn't enable match making for it. I'll be skipping D2.
I only played nearly an hour of Destiny at my friend's house, I enjoyed it but I never bought it. Simply because the story was lacking, required lots of game time and most of all, my internet connection was bad and has a data cap. So I hope and pray that my internet situation improves (It has improved now to be honest) before 8th of September, because I really enjoyed Bungie's Halo 1 & 2, top shooters with good story. Hopefully, Bungie learned their lesson from Destiny and improves them for Destiny 2.
Destiny 1 was absolute garbage. Will be avoiding this.
Nope, not interested
Not my thing I'm one of those rare breed of gamers.
Single player, offline only.
Well, I definetly played the hell out of Destiny despite getting average reviews, but then I had to buy the game again (the "complete edition" for the ps4 since I was playing it on the ps3 first), then once they announced Rise of Iron, I decided to put the game now and play something else, because no way am I gonna keep wasting more money on them.
I admit that its the gameplay and the multiplayer that got me addicted, and the lore itself was pretty interesting, but i'm not that kind of guy who just keeps buying more DLCs just to be able to play the "complete" game. It's the same the reason why I stopped playing games like Blops3, BF4, DS2, and Dante's Inferno.
However, I might still get a chance to get the sequel since the campaign looks very promising, especially the new strikes, new areas, "Adventures" A.K.A. sidequests, and new gameplay additions. Though I shouldn't get my hopes up since, besides Bungiee, it's also a game of Activision, so expect atleast 4 or 5 DLCs with one of them including space battles.
I was in the alpha and beta for the first game, but didn't buy it.
Won't be buying this either.
Bring on Far Cry 5.
PSA: Looks like the next "spend 100$ get 15$" will be coming up June 9th to June 20th , according to this link.... Which is right around E3 and presumably a flash sale....
I can also assume that you UK folks will see something similar, though not for sure.
So if you are thinking of pre-ordering Destiny I suggest waiting for it to come around
@get2sammyb in case you want to make this more visible than an old article.
