This latest PlayStation 4 software update may have appeared out of nowhere, but we'd recommend not getting too excited. As many of you will probably have already guessed, firmware 4.70 simply promises better stability and performance. It weighs in at around 340MB, and you'll need to download it in order to make use of your console's online functionality. In other words, this is a mandatory update.
Still, we're creeping closer to 5.0 now, so we imagine that it won't be too long until Sony announces that the next big update is in the works. What could it possibly add, though? Share your hopes and dreams in the comments section below.

Psn name change and maybe refunding games, after that I believe psn will be feature complete.
@wiiware And gifting games to friends through PSN, that would be perfect. Like you can do on Steam. Name change is definitely on the top of my list, and gifting would be second for me.
I think they should have it to were you could do a rating system for games and give an opinion on If the game is good or not.
Media Player updates to support DTS, DTS-HD and DOLBY TrueHD multi-channel audio as well as DSD music support. Realtime audio & video bitrate info at the top of the screen like how it was on PS3 along with being able to read AVCHD folder structures, ISO backups of Blurays with full menu support. The ability to select the audio track on a video for videos that have two or more audio tracks. I know this next one is a bit of a long shot but a gamer can dream lol... Firmware update removing error correction code and thus allowing the Bluray Drive to read UHD Blurays. I know sony has said it's not something they can do blah blah but big companies have reputations of saying it's impossible then doing it.
Think they need to bring in a way to be able to "trade in" or "buy back" Digital games, that would be a pretty big step!
@Jokerwild12 You can rate, right?
@gmxs That would pretty cool if they let you do that.
The Theresa May of updates then. Hearing strong rumours that 5.0 is coming on June 8th.
@Jokerwild12 you can rate games in the store and in your library I believe, but there isnt an option to essentially write a review.
I just want my console to run smoothly. Opening messages sends the fans into overdrive and it lags like laggy thing. It's really awful and before the last update it was fine. I'd quite like my USB ports to work again but don't think that will happen.
How about they fix that bloomin audio synch issue in the media player that they broke with their last update.
Thanks for letting me know I got 1TB from my console
I wanna see better stability with Remote Play to PC, i have a xbox one also and use the windows store app to stream and play my games in 1080p no lag, you need to find a way to make it so that the system streams rather than remote play. Change to PS PLUS i wanna see is no more free ps3 and psvita games, 4 ps4 games each month would be better.
A PSN EU tweet says tournament features in the update. What are they?
@B-I-G-DEVIL I just saw that as well and would like to know For everyone else, here it is:
https://twitter.com/PlayStationEU/status/869530095286923264
@DrClayman yes i'm part of a casual clan / group whatever people call them these days and we want to do a little tournament for fun but just for us. So just wondering if we can create our own mainly. I couldn't see the option the other day but would be nice to have it.
Hopefully this fixes the store issues. I'm finding it going from fast, to now re-loading constantly and slowing down...please don't let it become like the PS3's store became!
In the next big updates...being able to download your movies and tv episodes bought through the store, onto the system's HD or external, and being able to watch them without having to be connected to the internet...especially for people like myself that go on long trips, don't always have internet access from them, and like to take the console with me for something to do at times...definitely something that would be nice. Another addition, being able to find the avatars that were bought or downloaded...seriously, why do I have to search for each one in the store to be able to add them as my avatar??? Why is there not a section somewhere onto the system itself that shows you which ones you have available to yourself??? Other than that, being able to add a second External Hard Drive would also be nice...just imagine being able to add 2x 8TB externals and get a massive amount of space onto the system!!!!
Sony is competing with Nintendo with these stability updates.
I think for the big update on psn they should add: name change, refunding games, gifting games and backwards compatibility.
I'd like to see full on support for PS1 classics and such, bring it on par with PS3 now that it's retired. Doesn't have to be disc support, or crazy up-rezzing, just digital so I have somewhere to store all of my downloads.
@get2sammyb you can but it is only hitting a thumbs up for it they should actually do it to were you vote 1 through 5 or 10 type of voting for games
@Get2SammyB A system update was also released for PS3. Just stability as you probably guessed.
I would like an edible "Notes" for Friends, so I can keep track of whom is who and which game community I know them from, i.e.; "Met playing ME:A MP" or something of the sort.
@wiiware They already do refund games. under the following conditions. Game was not installed and purchase was made in the previous 14 days.
It took a couple days though so I guess they could improve the process and allow us to actually get the refund directly fro the console without having to contact the customer support.
@atadakimasu I mean real refund like steam or origin.
i would like the old notifications UI back.
Fix notification settings, more background colours, store wish list, refunds, gifting and more stability....
How about the ability to set both of the PS4's that I paid for in my own house as primary so my step son can play my games. I get why they changed it but surely if they're in the same house this can't be an issue
@wiiware
Do you mean refund after playing the game ? What is the rule at steam for that ? because I would it to be possible but it is kind understandable to not refund a game that you played. Or they could create something like you install the game and are allowed to play for like 30 mins after which they actually ask you to confirm that you really want the game or can be reimbursed and the game is automatically uninstalled
@Matt_Berial Funny that even the original Wii had a gifting feature, but the PS4 doesn't. They need to add that.
@atadakimasu Any game you buy on steam can be refunded as long as it's less than two weeks old and you've played it for less than two hours.
I want to refund street fighter 5 after I've played the game and realize the game is actualy early access game sold as full game last year
If sony doesn't want people to use the refund system as a way to demo game, they can make it so the money will be refunded as psn credits.
@Matt_Berial Gifting can be a problem if someone hack your account and "gift" all your games lol.
@Giygas_95 You can gift your digital games on wii? I didn't know that, that's cool.
Can they please fix the retarded notification list menu? I mean really?
How about they fix the issue with games not updating when my console is in rest mode. Ive made sure all the right boxes are ticked but this feature has never worked for me or any of of my friends.
@wiiware If they are able to get your credit card, you need to buy the game in order to gift it to some one. You don't just get the game and then gift it once you have it in your library.
@Matt_Berial I mean if my psn is hacked, whoever does it can give my games to other people before I know my psn user is hacked. I don't store my credit card info on psn, I only use psn card.
