As anticipated, Red Dead Redemption 2 is hanging up its hat and returning to the saloon until Spring 2018 on the PlayStation 4. The game – which was originally scheduled to release later this year – is continuing a Rockstar Games tradition of enduring at least one delay. Realistically, don’t expect to be playing this until early summer next year – you know how it goes.
“This outlaw epic set across the vast and unforgiving American heartland will be the first Rockstar game created from the ground up for the latest generation of console hardware, and some extra time is necessary to ensure that we can deliver the best experience possible for our fans,” the developer said.
The good news is that a bunch of new screenshots have been released and they look bloody beautiful. But can you wait another year for your Red Dead fix? Draw your weapon in the comments section below.

Boooooooooooo!
expected
A Rockstar game missing its original deadline. What a shock. There are a whole bunch of other developers pumping their fists, and I guess on the plus side, I'll be able to give this game all my attention when it releases. Balancing the games I want to play this Holiday just got a lot easier.
They have to make sure it's perfect so that everyone will buy it 3 times and it can be in the top 10 in sales for the next five years.
Unacceptable, release the unfinished and broken code immediately like all the other cowboys.
@ztpayne7 You jest but...
I really wasn't expecting this, guys.
@ztpayne7
I'll only buy it twice.
@Gamer83 C'mon man, you know you'll eventually grab the PS4 Classics version for PS7!
I'm happy to wait as long as it takes, Rockstar games are always worth the wait.
Shocking
Yeah, a 2017 date was too good to be true. That said, they'll need quite the amount of time if it's going to give the predecessor a run for it's money.
Bears the question if they're delaying it for the MP. If I remember correctly, GTAV launched without MP. They should just release the finished campaign and do the MP next year, i'm sure many would be fine with that.
Meh, they have earned my trust. I can't moan about crap quality then get annoyed when they delay stuff to improve quality.
Look at the detail in those pistolas! Add a photo mode please, Rockstar.
Ahh well, nice screenshot's though looking good.
It's a shame, but as long as I get to play it before I get married I can live with it.
Unsurprising but a little disappointing that they still haven't learned not to put a release date out if it's not gonna release on that date.
Those screenshots look incredible though.
God dammit! Still gonna keep both my preorders though. Can't wait to get the PS5 version with double the player count as well.
Second comment on this post but...
Animal people or no buy.
Delays are better than releasing a broken mess.
It sucks but I never really expected it this year anyways.
@get2sammyb
LOL, I probably would.
I wonder if this is going to make Sony push out some first party games earlier. Rather than leave till early 2018. Looks like days gone is expecting a big E3 showing. Don't want to release to many games in the shadow of RDR2
@gingerfrog How do you mean? I don't think they'll be releasing much after Uncharted: The Lost Legacy — they're marketing practically every major third-party game this fall.
I'm sure the strategy of third-party at Christmas and first-party in the New Year will continue this year.
Kratos just got an awful lot angrier as red dead stepped into his release window
Good things come to those who wait
It's dissapointing, but I will wait!
No surprise there.
Expected, but still:
Noooooooooooooooooooooooo!
No one comments the amazing train screenshot ? Delayed or not, if the game looks that good, and keeps the vibe from the previous one, I'm all in from day -1.
They can take as long as they like. Looks incredible!
I am not surprised! Its one reason why its never featured in my most anticipated game of 2017 and the fact that all I have really seen is screenshots and a teaser video hasn't done enough yet to elevate my anticipation as much as other games. I still expect to buy day 1 as I have bought all the RDR games - inc Red Dead Revolver...
@LieutenantFatman OH GOD don't give them any ideas
anyway on topic: they should use the time to port RDR to the PS4, that game is still great and it would increase interest in the sequel
@ztpayne7 no donkey waifu, no sale!
@Neolit strange fact the nickname for people from my home town is Yellowbelly, there are many reasons but the most commonly held one is in the old days the local militia used to wear yellow waistcoats
I really don´t mind waiting at all. Way too many great games this year. It looks amazing so far.
I thought this might happen, but I'm okay with great games getting delay to keep them great. The Last of Us 2 doesn't have an official release date either... (cues up dramatic music — dun-dun-DUUUUUH)
@get2sammyb
Not to sure what I ment really other than as Sony will be knowing when RDR2 releases as they are marketing it, if that clashed with one of their big hitters whether it would mean they move their own launch date on a game. I was thinking back to when horizon and switch launched together and you were concerned about mind share. There was no control about that, but with this scenario they have options.
The Daily Star (That renowned gaming rag) is reporting that the delay may well be due to work being done to make it cross-platform between Playstation and Xbox.
Can't see this happening myself.

@nathanSF I genuinely wouldn't believe anything they publish.
@get2sammyb
Agreed, but sometimes I allow myself to believe the unbelievable just for a bit of fun. While writing 'Magic. A Rough Guide' I managed to convince myself for a few weeks that magic was real and possible
