Well well well, what do we have here? Surfacing over on Reddit, this is supposedly our very first look at gameplay from the much rumoured Assassin's Creed Origins - or as it was previously known, Assassin's Creed Empire. The image above shows what certainly looks like an Assassin's Creed game, as a playable character steers a boat across a body of water near a port. The mission objective in the top left reads "assassinate the crocodile". Have fun with that one.
The slightly blurred snapshot falls in line with the most recent rumours that Origins will see the return of sailing and ship combat. And although it's difficult to truly pinpoint, the surrounding environment definitely looks like it could be Egypt or somewhere similar. All in all, this off-screen pic looks pretty legit from where we're sitting. Consider us intrigued.
What do you make of this one? Does it look like you'd expect? Catch the wind in the comments section below.
Update: Three separate sources have told Eurogamer that the above picture is indeed real. Dust off your sails, lads!

Ohhhhh, That definitely look Egypty, visually it looks great, well as much as slightly blurry pic will let it, just as an aside, AC Empires is a much better name than Origins
Oooo is that a floating way point marker I see before me eyes?
Lol "assassinate the crocodile"
Open world games just did a piece detailing that naval combat will be making a return, as well as being able to apparently sail the Mediterranean and apparently explore parts of Greece as well. Assassins creed crocodile hunter is shaping up to be quite a GOTY contender.
Could be worse, they could've gone to WWII to try and reinvigorate the series!
Hype!
I feel like firing up Black Flag now.
@ApostateMage I got the same urge!
Updated the article with Eurogamer's info.
Is that a quiver with arrows?
They've had a bit longer to work on this one, so I've got high hopes. If it's on the level of Black Flag then I'll be happy.
I've still seen nothing to convince me there will be naval combat. Traversal - yes. Combat - no. We'll see.
@RedMageLanakyn I don't think AC ever had a WWII setting unless it was one of the Vita games or something I missed.
I will need more information on this one before I board the hype train. Although the setting piques my interest.
@Tasuki I was referring to other popular franchises that are doing it, but i wouldn't be surprised if AC or far cry jumped on board as well.
I'm fatigued on the series but Ubisoft keeps trying
I am suspicious of these "leaks". Seems more like an "intentionally-well-timed-prior-to-E3-appetite-wetter-and-way-of-gaining-lots-of-press-coverage" type "leak".
Ubisoft just officially showing off a screenshot, though it would be popular, would likely get a lot less interest than a "leak".
I mean the number of "leaks" there are these days, there must be a whole sh*tload of people either getting warnings or the sack at work! I mean are we to really expect these "leakers" are willing to lose their jobs just so the internet can see something early? They are risking an livelihood for zero in return.
[Btw I'm not saying leaks don't happen but imo companies have cottoned on that purposefully "leaking" products early is good for promo. It's not just this industry either, car manufacturers do it too.]
@RedMageLanakyn Don't you hate it when people miss your obvious jokes? I blame it on the internationality of the site.
@rjejr Yeah, it happens. It's ok, i don't get half of their EU jokes either!
@RedMageLanakyn i don't get half of their EU jokes either
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi need Drax the Destroyer to moderate I think
Maybe just Google translate.
In the future everybody will be so unaware of the world as a whole from living in their own little VR headset Google Glass world that all text - Texts, Facebook and Twitter posts, email, etc - will come w/ an explanation of the post underneath.
Come to think of it that would actually be good for everything politicians say, not for jokes but for their underlining meaning. Like truth serum. Every post would be like that Romney 47% video and Clinton's "basket of deplorables".
Looks awesome! I'm looking forward to it =)
I really hope this is the game that restores Assassin's Creed to its former glory. I adored AC2 and Brotherhood. Looking forward to seeing its grand unveiling at E3
The Naval gameplay in Black Flag was great so i hope this is trruueeee
Huh, so that's what it feels like to be excited for an AC game again. Weird.
Black Flag was the series at it's ultimate high point, just hope this is the entry that makes the series great again.
Wow, this also clears up the mystery of who the protagonist will be - it's Steve Irwin. Can't wait!
seem Assassins Creed has become Pirates Creed for many.
As the naval is what most people want out of the IP now... :X
Love the idea of the Egyptian setting! I was hoping it would be during the Dynastic period but that was wishfull thinking. Based on the image, it appears that the building closest to the POV is some sort of windmill.(?) There were no windmills in ancient Egypt, so it must take place after Dynastic times. Still going to keep my eyes on this one, should be cool climbing a pyramid or two!
