If this rumour turns out to be true, then the entirety of Ubisoft will be praying to Clint Eastwood that Red Dead Redemption 2 gets delayed. The word on the street is that a new Far Cry game is due out in September, and it’ll apparently adopt a Spaghetti Western theme. Random? Not quite as random as the way this story started.
So, the Great Falls Tribune reported on a live action trailer that was shot near a church in the Montana prairie. The producer, Jeff Guillot, told the paper that the shoot was for “a sequel to an existing global franchise” scheduled to be released in September, and that the production “stretched more than 5,000 miles”.
Red Dead Redemption 2, right? Well, that’s what everyone assumed, until sleuths discovered that Guillot has a long history with Ubisoft, working on oodles of its projects in the past. And last year, the French publisher polled players on possible settings for the next Far Cry, with a “Spaghetti Western set in the 19th century Americas” being one of the options.
Put two and two together and what do you get? Well, still five – but this is most curious, isn’t it? Personally, we love Westerns, so we’d definitely be down for a new Far Cry in that format. It’d be a shame for it to release right next to Red Dead if it does turn out to be real, though, wouldn’t it? After all, you can’t compete with Rockstar – no matter how big you are.

I would be for it. I don't know why more games haven't used the Western theme?
I would say RDR and Gun are two of my favorite games ever.
If they do the western thing as good as they did the 80's sci-fi theme and stone age theme in Blood Dragon and Primal then I will enjoy this one.
I would love to see a spaghetti western style game. Red Dead Redemption really mined the darker, later era, and revisionist westerns so there is plenty of room for a different take. It remains to be seen what tone RDR2 takes, but I'm sure Ubisoft could find a unique perspective.
I'd love to see this - the wild west setting is, sadly, one that seems all but unused. I'm not a fan of RDR either so I'd really like to see Far Cry take on the setting. Having said that, is Far Cry becoming the first person Assassin's Creed now, with all the time hopping?
Knowing the Far Cry games, this will probably be in first person, so I wouldn't mind it.
I love games set in the old West. Gun was one of my favourite games back in the day and of course rdr is a masterpiece. I even enjoyed the first two call of juarez games and think the era is rich pickings. As someone who has never been that fused by far cry, consider my interest piqued
Oh, I would be here for this. I'm still not convinced RD2 will release this year, also I wonder of this and the new AC will fall under UBI's "live game" commitment
I'm game as long as its as stupid and fun as FC 3 and 4 were. RDR2 probably won't release until sometime next year anyway.
I'd be all over this, the last 2 in the series (4 especially) whilst solid were a bit dull for me because it just felt like I'd played them before. A western setting would be a good change of pace and if it's half as good as Blood Dragon we're on to a winner. However launching near RDR2 is very risky and if that isn't some GTA online inspired nonsense and has a true single player I'll likely get that one
It worked really well with Red Steel 2, so yeah I'd be up for ir.
I love me some westerns - I still have a very soft spot for Gun on PS2. I am burned out on FC after 3 and 4 so would have to see if it ditched some of the series tropes.
That said, if it is launching in Sept, this is very bad timing. A lot of people will ignore it for RDR2. To be honest, I'm probably one of them.
It could be for Assassins Creed if the rumour of multiple settings in that are true...?
Anyway if it's for FC sounds cool!
More western games is always a good thing.
Two Mules for Sister Sarah
I'm speechless.
@Tasuki I would love a 80 scifi theme. I miss those great Xfiles periods.....
Call of Juarez is actually an Ubisoft title ... it could be that?
I'm in. Love a good western.
I have no problem with a western theme, although I personally think it's a bad idea with Red Dead Redemption 2 coming out.
I would be in favor of them losing the "Far Cry" name altogether at this point.....but maybe that's just me.
No. No matter how good this game looks. It is still Ubisoft, and I cannot in all good conscious support such a garbage publisher. Jog on...
@Flaming_Kaiser X Files was 90s.
Far Cry Western sounds boring to me,i would like a new one set in the dark ages.
This would be Great news!
