Long-awaited South Park role-playing game The Fractured but Whole finally has a PlayStation 4 release date: 17th October. The game had been scheduled to release earlier this year, but was delayed indefinitely out of nowhere. Pre-orders still include a free remaster of South Park: The Stick of Truth, while you’ll also nab an exclusive in-game assistant for the new title: Towelie.

I don't believe this date is concrete until we start creeping closer to release. Game has had quite a few delays.
Hopefully this lives up to the original. Thanks to the change in developer, though, I'm not hopeful of that. The Stick of Truth was pretty much the perfect South Park game: fun and well-designed RPG mechanics and gameplay crossed with pitch-perfect South Park humor and an art-style that made it look exactly like an episode of the show.
@Ralizah hmm i wasn't even aware this was happening, could definitely be reason for concern
@bbtothe I mean, it could still turn out well, but I fully believe the reason Stick of Truth was so solid mechanically was because Obsidian developed it.
I'll keep an eye on reviews and user impressions, but I'm definitely not preordering.
@Ralizah hmm yeah I just did some reading on both games wiki's and interestingly enough when Ubi bought the rights for it off bankrupt THQ they (ubi) decided within 3 weeks that the game required significant changes. I guess this is somewhat a good sign that we may be safe in ubis hands
@get2sammyb Thanks for publishing this article.
So happy this has a final release date now, I'd be surprised if they delayed it another time.
Ugh,Obsidian -i will never give them any respect -THERE WAS NO SPRINT IN FALLOUT NV Worst schoolboy error in video games ever.I am glad this isn't made them, maybe its good.
I had this on pre order about a year go, that was cancelled with the last delay but weirdly I was allowed to keep the Stick of Truth. That was one of my favourite games on PS3 and was still great fun when I played it again so I'll be getting this day one. The trailer looks great and with the superhero focus it's right up my street, I don't see the change of developer as an issue as it has relatively simplistic game play and Ubisoft games are generally pretty well polished
I hope the delay is to coincide with the new TV season.....
I really need the towelie dlc, so will probably break my no preordering rule.
I adored the first game, and I watch south park on almost constant rotation, but although the mechanics and tone were solid, did anyone else think the balance was off? Fights tended to be super easy with an occasional super hard one.
Stick of Truth was great, but honestly what I've seen of the gameplay the battle system has taken a turn for the worse in this one, it just looks shallow in comparison, the super hero theme also doesn't particularly interest me, I always skipped those episodes in the show too. I'm definetly going to see the reviews first on this one.
Never played Stick of Truth and I want to on PS4 but not enough to pre-order.
I know that Trey Parker and Matt Stone are heavily involved in the games and I suspect that if they weren't happy they would not have wanted it released. They maintain a lot of control over the IP or so I understand. Still, bring it on!
It's been delayed for 10 months... I really hope it's benefited from that as some games with huge delays greatly suffer from all sorts of issues. I really enjoyed the first one, so my hopes for this one are a little high!
@special_donky On the other hand, New Vegas was the only Fallout since the second one to have decent writing and role-playing elements.
If FO4 taught me anything, it's that Bethesda is a one-trick pony and the franchise won't go anywhere productive while it's still in their care.
@Rudy_Manchego You can definitely see the creators' hand in Stick of Truth. It's almost indistinguishable from the TV show in terms of the quality of the satire and the effective deployment of shock humor.
@Ralizah That is why I am a little more willing to wait in that I think the wait is to get the game right. They are big gamers themselves...
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi Sadly I don't see them selling Stick of Truth separately on PSN until Fractured But Whole is released.
Until then it's gonna be a pre-order exclusive only more than likely.
Wait stick of truth is remastered too?! Nice.
@Ralizah Yeah i guess so,no sprint though..That really really ruined imo.A good story is always nice but not a strong point of Bethesda for sure.I think their (Bethesda) output of games is pretty decent overall to be fair.
@CountFunkula78 the new season starts on August 23rd
@sonicmeerkat Yes Stick of Truth has been available on PS4 since December 2016, but only as a pre-order bonus for Fractured But Whole.
@GlynCR August 23rd huh? Thanks for the info.
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi I know, but what can we do about it?
We're just measly gamers/fans while they're a big company.
