Survival game The Long Dark will endure the Canadian wilderness from 1st August, when the outing is scheduled to set up camp on the PlayStation 4. A two-in-one title, the release features an open world sandbox that sees you braving the elements, as well as the first two episodes in a five-part story that explores the exploits of bush pilot Will Mackenzie.
Survival mode will find you managing your resources – from food and fuel to clothing and tools – in order to live as long as you can, while many of these mechanics will be re-purposed for the story component. “The campaign builds on our core survival gameplay by adding a rich storyline and cast of characters whose trust you’ll need to earn if you want to survive,” creative director Raphael van Lierop wrote on the PlayStation Blog.
As mentioned, the first two episodes of the story will be available – alongside the aforementioned survival mode – starting 1st August. “The remaining three episodes will arrive throughout the rest of 2017 and part of 2018,” van Lierop continued. “At least, that’s our current plan!” It’s looking pretty good, we have to say.

@Bad-MuthaAdebisi This is what the PlayStation Blog post says: "We’re launching the first two episodes on August 1 — Episode One: “Do Not Go Gentle,” and Episode Two: “Luminance Fugue,” with the remaining three Wintermute episodes arriving throughout the rest of 2017 and part of 2018. At least, that’s our current plan! In the first two episodes, you play Mackenzie, but you’ll also get the opportunity to experience the story as Dr. Greenwood in future episodes. Each episode is about five hours of gameplay, so between Survival Mode and Wintermute, there’s a lot of great gaming to be had in The Long Dark!"
Looks really cool. Giving me Fortitude vibe. Eyes on.
Looks interesting, might have to check this out when it's released.
I'm intrigued.
