Spider-Man’s a good guy, and he traditionally doesn’t take lives. You may have noticed in this week’s E3 2017 trailer how the hero made extra effort to scoop up debris and avoided endangering the public. But what about when you’re released into the open world to do what you want? Or when you’re fighting bad guys on a rooftop and kick one over the edge?
Well, incredibly, Insomniac Games has created contingency animations that will show Spidey saving lives in the heat of battle. “Certain abilities he’ll do during combat to prevent people from dying,” creative director Bryan Intihar told Kotaku, adding: “So whether it’s about deciding where stuff gets placed or how it unfolds, Spider-Man’s not gonna be killing people. That’s not the game we want to make.”

wow, that's amazing and I'm really happy they did that. I'm kind of sick of how violent a lot of heroes act today and while I'm not a huge comic book super hero fan, Spiderman is one of my favorites.
That's good. I just hope it doesn't look super contrived like how the Arkham games could get.
I did notice that not one fatality occurred during the gameplay shown. Thought it was a nice detail. They clearly get the character.
I'm playing again all the Uncharted this day (I'm currently at U3 Drake's Deception) and it's unbelivable how many guys you KILL in this game. I mean, Drake, this cool guy we all like, is basically a mass murderer when you think about it. In the second episode, the final boss is telling something like that to Nathan, like "you're no different than me... How many people did you actually KILL today ?" and I was like "yeah, exactly !". Don't get me wrong, I love those games as any playstation player and I know they don't take themselves seriously... But still.
Spiderman, not killing. Refreshing in this age of violence.
Could Spiderman kill in anygame? As far as I know he just knocked people out.
@Xaessya Sure, but I think they especially thought of special animations like, when you push into the void, from a rooftop, an ennemy, Spidey will automatically shoot a web-thing to save the guy.
@Xaessya Seems like they're going the extra mile here, though. If you kick someone off a building, he'll catch them and tie them up as part of the animation.
Is he going the Batman route, though? The route which involves not killing people but most of them will wish that they had actually died rather than be left brutally crippled for life.
@get2sammyb
Didn't go so well with Gwen Stacy :v
@ShogunRok Yeah, a lot of what gets done in the arkham games would leave one to believe that there's a few hundred parapalegics with broken arms and neck braces wheeling around!
Makes perfect sense. Spiderman isn't a murderer.
@Ralizah you missed a trick there.
It makes spider sense.....
So it will be like the A-Team tv show where helicopters crash into mountains, burst into flames, roll down the side of the mountain, explode again, and then the bad guy gets up and walks away?
And yes that really happened in an epsidoe, I had to stop watching after that, it was just too unbelievable even for me.
@Utena-mobile Superman Killed Zod. I saw it on-screen with millions of other people. That ended Superman for me.
Won't kill but will shatter bones and cause serious injuries... LOL
So taking someone up to the tippy top of the empire state building and doing a spinning piledriver to the ground is likely out then?
I mean it still only knocked out the poor guy back on the gamecube but still...
I never actually have seen spiderman say "I'll never kill a guy" but I don't keep up with the comics.
