Arguably the biggest story of 2017 has been the resurgence of Japanese games on the PlayStation 4. The likes of Persona 5, Resident Evil 7, Nioh, NieR: Automata, and Yakuza 0 have been among the best games on the platform this year, and according to PlayStation America boss Shawn Layden, we should expect this story to continue at E3 2017.
“That's super important for us,” he said of Japanese support in an interview with Time. “I think a lot of Japanese developers lost their way chasing the mobile games yen, if you will, but they're coming back to console in a major way. And speaking of, we'll have some big announcements at E3 in that precise vein.”
The likes of Ni no Kuni 2 and Yakuza Kiwami all seem likely, but what else could there be? Kingdom Hearts 3? Final Fantasy VII Remake? Monster Hunter 5? Something new from From Software? The mind positively boggles at the possibilities…

I've been saying it for the past 14 years and I won't stop now: Dark Cloud 3 pls
Nice. Gives me hope that I'll also have something to be excited about during Sony's E3.
Hype restored!
I call the inevitable DQXI and Ninokuni2 details +the rumoured western oriented Monster Hunter 5.
I'm guessing Monster Hunter 5, MVC, FromSoftware's new game, Shenmue remasters, Resi 2 remake and Time Crisis VR cos why not. Oh and Knack 2 out now. Though Sony will want a retail release of that I expect.
@Ralizah PlayStation is always exciting wether it's western games or Japanese games.so it's irrelevant.
Monster Hunter 5 is confirmed to be fake by the creator of the post, so nope. Everything else hell yeah!
@Frank90 I mean ignoring that rumour, though, Capcom really did indicate that it wants Monster Hunter to be more popular in the West so... You never know. Unlikely, though.
Great to hear. Although...
"I think a lot of Japanese developers lost their way chasing the mobile games yen, if you will, but they're coming back to console in a major way"
I'm not sure if this statement accounts for the plethora of Japanese games created for Vita (I'm not even asking him to factor in 3DS). Japan has never really left the console field despite mobile gaming arguably being a fad there YEARS ahead of the the west. One of FFVII Compilation games actually remained a mobile phone exclusive, didn't it?
@playstation1995 Good for you. Unfortunately, I don't feel that way. About any company. Even Nintendo and Atlus, both of which I love to death.
@nhSnork I agree. Japanese devs have always maintained an overwhelming presence on handheld consoles, even if their output for home consoles kind of died last gen.
Comes on Sony, only one word needs to be said...

2017 is a very good year for japanese games, with games like nier automata, persona 5, yakuza 0, gravity rush 2 and resident evil 7, some of them even sold more than 1M.
I have always preferred Japanese games, but this year has been something special. Switch is having some Japanese gems as well.
Dying to have Sega announce the Shenmue HD Collection. I also want to know what Kamiya is up to after Scalebound was scrapped.
Good, these are some of my favorite games this year... Yakuza Zero (what I think will be my GOTY choice when it's all said and done), Resident Evil VII, Gravity Rush 2, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, NieR: Automata, Tekken 7. It's been nice to see a bit of a comeback from the Japanese developers, even if it doesn't last too long, it was a good final run.
@get2sammyb Yeah, maybe as a dual release Switch/PS4.
PS4 exclusive no way. And probably nothing about MH5 will come before TGS17.
@Frank90 Oh yeah, no exclusive. No chance.
Can we please get an updated Virtual On game? Pls Japan.
