Sony’s been busy conducting interviews with some of the biggest publications in the industry, and it’s inevitably been asked about Project Scorpio – the upcoming PS4 Pro-esque upgrade for the Xbox One, which is scheduled to release later this year. And it’s admitted that, while it’s eager to see what Microsoft’s got in store, it’s not really thinking about the product too much.
“We won't be frightened of what they do,” PlayStation Europe boss Jim Ryan told Business Insider, adding that he feels confident Sony has the edge when it comes to content. The executive pointed to releases like Horizon: Zero Dawn and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, which “tip the scales” in the manufacturer’s favour.
Ultimately, though, looking at the way PS4 Pro is selling – one in five sales are for the premium model – it’s hard to imagine Xbox’s new system significantly altering the course of the generation unless it’s incredibly cheap or has access to a large library of games unavailable elsewhere. Both of these scenarios seem unlikely, so Sony’s right not to lose too much sleep.

I'm just curious what Xbox has coming game wise. E3 should be interesting. It's been very quiet, I only know of Sea of Thieves which looks good and interesting and I guess there will be Forza too but it must be too soon for a Halo and Gears game so what are they releasing?
They can't seriously be releasing this console with nothing. Sony even has all the marketing for the big games coming out at the same time as Scorpio.
PS has been ruling the roost since the mid 90's simply because they have the best games. A wee blip at the start of last gen perhaps that helped the 360 take off but MS haven't really proven that was anything other than a fluke where as Sony have a great track record with home consoles.
Good luck to MS, I hope the new console does well but it'll live or die by the games it gets.
As it was pointed out, its all about the content. Scorpio will see well initially to enthusiasts and Xbox fans but the long term longevity of it will depend on what they offer.
Spencer has said multiple times that it is a premium console and that it will be sold as that which makes me wonder if the pricing is going to be higher than expected. We'll have to wait and see but E3 is going to be exciting nonetheless.
who's afraid of the big bad Scorpio.Sony will huff and huff and blow the scorpio away.fatalities PlayStation 4 pro win
I still can't believe they've spent a YEAR hyping this thing up without showing anything at all. It's insane to me.
Let's put this into perspective: Sony announced and released the PS4 Pro and Nintendo announced and released the Switch since Scorpio was announced. And it still hasn't been properly revealed.
@elchebib I think all this talk of "premium" from Microsoft is very carefully calculated. They want people to think it's going to be really expensive so fans freak out when it's $399. (Which it will be.)
If they had a good lineup of exclusives I would consider getting one as my second console. At the moment they don't have a single game that gives me that "I must play that game" feeling.
They have some games I wouldn't mind playing but not a system seller.
I feel that Scorpio is MS's pitch for their vision of the future of console gaming, not necessarily a weapon to turn around this generation. They'll need to announce a whole heap of content to get any traction and you can't do these things quickly.
Personally, I'm still not sure who this new console is for. I'm all up for competition though but I think the Switch will be the only new bigseller in the next year.
@Splat The most interesting game on XB1 for me is Below, which was announced in 2013 and is still no where to be seen :s
Hopefully when it does show up it makes it to PS.
They also make most of their games available on PC which I think does more harm than good when it comes to selling hardware.
@JoeBlogs True, cuphead looks good. And Halo is a franchise I've never really got into myself but I've seen them played through and they look a lot of fun. But I don't think I'm wrong in saying it's lost its relevance these days.
I don't think it's a threat because of Microsoft's timing. Had they released this closer to the PS4 Pro, yeah, it would have been a problem for Sony. By the time Scorpio is out, I'm guessing we'll be hearing details about a PS5.
@get2sammyb good point
Why would they be afraid? They have a virtually unassailable lead now, a great rosta of exclusives in the pipeline and know exactly what's 'needed' to regain 'the most powerful console in the world' when they want to build/release the PS5. If Analysts are correct, that could be as soon as Q4 2018 and I doubt MS would release an 'upgrade' to the Scorpio for at least 3yrs.
We know Sony tend to show their more long term plans as far as Software goes. They tend to keep hardware to much shorter notice but with Software, Sony let their fans know whats coming up and what will be following on from that. In a lot of ways, this keeps fans optimistic for the future - it also helps that Sony have a lot of Studios and 3rd Party deals as well. At the moment, MS appear to have nothing beyond the end of 2017 - of course you can expect a Halo or Gears to follow at some point but nothing as concrete as games like Last of Us 2, Death Stranding, GoD of War, Spider-Man etc - I know some may arrive in 2017 but we have at least an idea what Sony have in store beyond the next 6-12months and no-idea what (if anything) MS has.
Point is, Sony clearly have the upper hand at the moment, in terms of User base, Software and optimism. By Optimism I am referring to buying the console with a good idea on the longer term support.
As excited by Scorpio as I am, its still in the same boat as 'Xbox' in general in that there appears to be very little for the long term. Of course the Scorpio will still be getting Destiny 2, Fifa, Cod, SW:BF2, RDR2 etc and granted these may well 'look' better on Scorpio. Whether native 4k/60 in games like SW/BF2 and CoD with 4k quality assets is 'enough' considering how well the PS4 Pro delivers 'dynamic' (LMAO) 4k but also has a great line-up of exclusives or not, time will tell. Even if Scorpio does end up helping MS secure monthly NPD wins, its unlikely to catch up with PS4/Pro and like I said, Sony have the upper hand and can just release a PS5, with 4k HDR Bluray and beat the Scorpio's CPU/GPU and RAM any time they want...
@elchebib @get2sammyb The PS4 Pro is the 'premium' PS4 and that launched at £350. The current XB1s is £200 so even £350 is 'premium' priced comparatively. If (or when more like) Sony drop the Pro price, the Scorpio, even if it were to launch at £350, would still be the most 'expensive' console on the market. When the PS4 and XB1 launched, these were 'premium' and both launched at around £350 (I know XB1 was more expensive than that, thanks to bundling in Kinect but the console would have been around that price otherwise).
Premium doesn't necessarily mean 'over-priced'. Why spend £500 on a Scorpio when you could buy both an XB1s (for any MS exclusives you may want and 4k HDR player) and a PS4 Pro for the same money?
I'd put my entire savings on a bet that says another Playstation 4 coming out next year(NOT a Playstation 5). Something like Super Pro, PS4 Max or whatever. Prolly on PSX the announcement, at best before Scorpio comes out to take off the hype of MS new console. Y'all see.
I like to see how Microsoft handle exclusive content for the Scorpio. They brag about how powerful the hardware is but you hear nothing about content. To me why buy system that's will be $400 or more when I can play them in my gaming laptop. This will be a flop Sony will sell well and Nintendo is dominating the market so I don't see any room for new hardware
"features sony should steal"? yep, that's what sony's best at: stealing.
I think the problem with xbox one is games, not power. Xbox sell more than ps4 when their big game arrive (halo 5 and gear 4 if I remember correctly), so they need more good exclusive games, not a new half-gen machine.
@get2sammyb Microsoft is really, really good when hyping something. We all remember the kinect (old and new), power of the cloud, the greatest lineup in xbox history, etc.
@Morenoj1220 well congratulations. you already made microsoft more money than by buying an xbox. margins on hardware sales are slim while margins on software sales (windows) are large.
Sony: We're not afraid of the Scorpio... BECAUSE BY THEN WE'LL HAVE ALREADY RELEASED PS4 PRO HYPER TURBO!! BWAHAHAHAHAAA!!!
@get2sammyb "I still can't believe they've spent a YEAR hyping this thing up without showing anything at all. It's insane to me."
rofl. this comes from the same guy who doesn't expect gameplay from a game that has its second E3 showing. (and btw: you probably know this but MS has already revealed the full specs of the system, so saying that they didn't show anything at all is just flat out wrong.)
@KratosMD there's no aftermath from that at all anymore. i haven't heard people mention this debacle in YEARS now. they're just missing first party content.
@JoeBlogs I have enjoyed a number of MS exclusives on XB1. Forza Motorsport is the best racing Sim and Forza Horizon the best open world arcade racer in my opinion. Gears is great - although 4 wasn't as good as 2. Halo has gone downhill if Campaigns are important but 5's MP is regarded as one of the best - you can of course still play 1-4 with the masterchief collection. Sunset Overdrive is 'fun' but I feel too 'old' to fully appreciate it, Titanfall was very good - although had the same issues that SW:BF had in lack of content and when they did give us more, it was too late. Dead Rising is fun - maybe not memorable or award winning but 'fun', QB tried something unique, Ryse is OK, and you have games like Screamride, Rare Replay, Halo Wars, Sea of Thieves, State of Decay, ReCore, Ori, Crackdown 3 etc too. Maybe not as diverse as Sony's line up but add in the great range of BC games too and it has quite an extensive library of old and new exclusives.
One thing Scorpio maybe able to offer is 'Dynamic' 4k 60fps options. On Pro, you either have a 4k/30 mode or a 1080/60fps mode. Scorpio 'could' offer a native 4k/30 mode or a 'dynamic 4k/60 mode. Again maybe 'not' important to some...
Sony fans will always buy and defend Sony regardless. MS could release a Console that's as powerful as a high-end PC, a range of 'exclusives' etc and Sony fans will still find something wrong with it - like MS don't have Naughty Dog for example or all their games are on PC despite the fact you have to have a Win10 PC, a Xbox type profile and can only buy from the Windows store - the same store on Xbox essentially - like buying on PSN! It would be like Sony putting PSN store on Win10 PC's and only people with PSN accounts can buy games. It makes the 'user base' much larger...
@KratosMD so? you said the aftermath is still going on strong. which it isn't. no one is talking about it anymore.
PS4 still have the best exclusives at there and unless MS has some big hitters under their hat Sony will be fine.
It could come with a flux capacitor and transcend the laws of space and time, but it won't matter if it doesn't include any intriguing software.
The Scorpio feels useless due to the majority of the Xbox's games co-releasing on the PC. Microsoft wanting to implement the play anywhere feature with the Xbone and Windows 10 doesn't help the matter either.
Rare Replay and Gears 3 are the only reason my Xbone isn't on eBay. If they were on PC my One would be gone.
@JAMes-BroWWWn there will be, although it will just be smaller, slimmer Pro; although they won't make a big fuss of the announcement for obvious and various reasons. Expect one at PSX or Q1 2018.
I was going to get a Scorpio at launch but I don't see the harm in waiting a few month's first, the X1 launch was awful there was nothing for month's and I can see MS doing the same again, once bitten twice shy. I'll grab it early next year after it's taken off, if it take's off.
thing is why does it need to be so powerful, yeah they can tout it as "The Worlds most POWERFUL Console" but at the end of the day it's still going to be running XB1 games and even with all that extra power it's still limited in what it can do as the games will have to be able to function on a XB1 so will it be much different than playing a game on a mid end P.C?
yeah they may look a bit prettier and load a bit faster but it's still just a XBOX ONE game and i can't really imagine it producing images or a game play experience much better than a PS4 Pro does now
of course price is also an important factor and i doubt most gamers would care about "6 Teraflops" of power if the system is priced to far above the Pro
but it also depends on how developers use the system whether it's via updates for games or Scorpio specific versions of games but i doubt developers will do much but make the games 4K compatible as i doubt they would want to incur the added cost of making a XB1, PS4 AND Scorpio version of a game
but i still reckon that MS are going to tout the Scorpio as their "Next" system and not just a updated XB1, and honestly that would probably work in their favour if they say it's a new system that can play XB1 and 360 games and allow developers to produce exclusive games for the system i think it would do quite well because then it would have that extra draw for gamers
I've read nothing to suggest that the Scorpio will be a significant jump over the Pro, its gpu and memory band with are a small step up but it's cpu isn't and anyone expecting this to run games at double the frame rate of the Pro are going to be disappointed.
Mainly though we have seen no games announced for this thing at all or the One for that matter, yet we have quite a long list of exclusives already been prepped for PS4 l, oh and 60 odd million owners won't vanish overnight
@JoeBlogs Nintendo did after the Wii U flopped and they came back strong
the XB1 while not as bad as the Wii U is still pretty much a flop as i doubt it's doing anywhere near what MS was hoping it would
sometimes it's best to wash your hands of something, walk away and start again
@JoeBlogs The 'Horizon' games are a lot of Fun. Its not just 'racing' but exploring, driving where you want, finding 'new' cars (barn finds), etc. I much prefer it to the 'Motorsport' or 'track racing' games. I find they get boring really quickly - go round a 'generic' track and head to the next 'generic' track. Yes the layout may differ and the details around the tracks - like trees, spectators etc but its still quite generic.
MS can build games with the Scorpio specifically in mind. The same principal works in reverse to - instead of 'scaling up' to Scorpio, they scale down to Xbox One. 3rd Party developers are making games with 4k visuals and 4k assets now and have been for years. These are 'scaled' down to consoles. The target for Scorpio will be 4k so reducing the GPU render to 1080p or less, reduce the Assets down to HD quality to fit the lower RAM, etc is no different from what 3rd Party developers are doing. Scaleability is the 'buzzword'. Whether a game is built primarily for Scorpio or XB1 isn't an issue as it can be scaled up or down. We may think that a 'game' is built for the 'base' console but scaled up but most often its built to the Higher spec devices and scaled down to the lower.
Its not that different from the Pro. I bet if the Pro had more resources available, a 'simple' patch could enable higher resolutions and higher quality assets, better draw distances and, in some cases, higher frame rates too without impacting on the base version. Every 3rd Party multi-platform AAA game, runs at 4k with 4k assets and min 60fps (if you have the PC to do so) and scaled down to 1080p on PS4, not scaled down as much on Pro....
MS don't appear to be wanting to let there 'past' go or making Xbox fans decide whether to keep with the old or start again. They appear to want to keep their 'history' and Library of games and build on it with every new console. Like owning a PC. They don't want you to have to throw away/sell all your 360 and XB1 games but to bring them with you. I can see a time when games may be minimum recommended 'Scorpio' - kind of like we see with PC games. Buying a 'new' Xbox will be like buying a new GPU - still plays all your existing games - many of which may be 'improved' and plays all new games at a higher level. Instead of spending £500+ on a GPU, buy a £350-£400 console every 3-4yrs...
@JoeBlogs that's if we ever see a PS5, they may just keep "updating" the PS4
@FullbringIchigo The WiiU has sold around 13.5m where as the XB1 has sold around 26m (both figures up to the end of 2016). Maybe neither is exactly accurate but that's the 'best' figures we have seen. Of course compared to the 53.4m that Sony had sold by that time, its a significant margin. In fact the XB1 outsold the WiiU by 2:1 in far less time and the PS4 has outsold the XB1 by the same margin in the same time.
@JoeBlogs It would be great if the PS5 has Backwards Compatibility to the PS4 and its handled in a similar way to MS's consoles. It would be great to buy a PS5, put in any PS4 disc and play those games with my PS4 and PS5 friends - even able to form parties across both generations.
Mark Cerny though seemed to indicate that the 'next' gen Playstation will be built for the 'next' gen games using the 'best' and probably new architecture at that time. He seemed to indicate that a 'new' generation is defined by a 'new' architecture and a change from the old'. Based on the comments by Jim Ryan too, you would think that Sony will not bother with BC unless its coincidental...
@FullbringIchigo Sony would have to eventually either make a 'new' generation of console or stop insisting that that games must have 'parity' or even a release on the base version. The base PS4 can't go on indefinitely and gamers would get 'annoyed' if their games were 'nerfed' just to keep parity. If the 'next' iteration has the power to run a game like CoD 2023 (or any other 60fps game) at 4k/60 but the PS4 is struggling to run it at 720/30, would you be 'happy' if it was locked to 30fps to keep parity with a 10yr old console?? Would you be happy if 'content' was removed (like CoD BO3's campaign) because the PS4 can't run it? Would you be happy to miss out on some games because the PS4 hasn't got enough power in its CPU/GPU to run the game at all? Either Parity has to go or they have to make a 'new' gen console.
When you look at the PS3-PS4 generation, there is always some crossover - some games that get dual releases - like CoD Ghosts, Fifa etc and some games, like Knack, that really 'could' run on the old hardware but 'kept' for the new as well as games that really wouldn't work on the old - not without making fundamental changes. Over time, the games get more 'complex' to the point where significant 'differences' between old and new have to come in or the game just doesn't come to the old. Its not just this gen but happened with PS2-PS3 too. If Sony were to make a PS4 ProPlus (loaded with Caffiene ) in 2018, maybe for the first year or two, we could see parity - same with Scorpio but eventually, either parity has to be abolished or a new gen is needed...
@JoeBlogs I still have my PS3 and original PS4. I can't remember the last time I turned my PS3 on. I also have my XB360 and original XB1 but I am more likely to play my XB360 games on my Xbox one than my Xbox 360 and more likely to play play them on my Scorpio too. I also find I download more XB360 GwG on my XB1 than XB1 offerings...
When RDR came to BC, that was almost as big as a new release - same with the BC CoD games...
It seems Sony just want to sell you PSNow and remasters that are nothing more than the 'same' game, same visuals etc with 'just' a higher resolution (God of War 3) instead of 'proper' remaster like Modern Warfare
At E3 2015 the much anticpated Fallout 4 was revealed and given a release date of only 5 months away. No teaser, no 2 year wait. MS could do the same this E3. Reveal the Scorpio and 3 or 4 great games that all will be available 11.1.17.
If the Scorpio can play the same games better than the Pro and or at 60fps instead of 30fps, offer better internet connection, aps , browser, and also the BC we already know about with also upscaling, will all make the Scorpio a tempting purchase. Now add 2 or 3 killer exclusives for bundles and now it is very tempting.
Can anyone really prefer PS4 over Xbone for BC. At this point Sony wins except for BC for which they are not even close. So what then will a PS5 offer? Ps4 games remastered and or streamed? The next MS console will without a doubt be BC to the current gen and probably 360 gen games. PS Now offers streaming PS3 games but it is only renting, worse than playing from hdd, and does not provide dlc.
I love my PS4 but oh how nice it would be to be able to play Fallout 3, New Vegas, and all the dlc on my PS4, and without purchasing again or streaming. Maybe also upscaled.
I really can't make sense of anything Xbox after the "play anywhere" campaign. So if they have an interesting exclusive game (and they don't have one very often) I can play it on my Pc? Who needs this?
@Neolit For someone who has never invested in the Xbox Ecosystem, Backwards compatibility is an excellent addition. Its not just the games you 'may' have once played but can't anymore because you no longer have a PS3 games, but also the exclusives from the Xbox 360 era. If you wanted to find out what the 'fuss' was with Gears of War (for example), the whole franchise is available on Xbox One.
The way it works, is by running the Xbox 360 OS on an Xbox One and 'emulating' the older gen. It uses the same servers, online structure etc so you can play, chat with anyone on the ecosystem - inc PC.
Price could very well be £399, Controllers all come with a standard headphone jack and ALL have rechargeable batteries as an option. Each Pack lasts a LOT longer than a DS4 charge - however you also have the flexibility to use it with standard batteries or play and charge cables. When the rechargeable battery gives up (as they do) instead of throwing the whole controller out, you can just replace the rechargeable battery pack - making tgem MUCH more versatile and eco-friendly!
Audio on the Scorpio is at the highest quality - Dolby Atmos, DTS-X and this will also be coming to games. As far as the ability to run games that look incredible, they will be 4k with 4k quality assets - something the Pro can't deliver. The RAM and Bandwidth is 'enough' to handle HD quality assets. As for offering 'higher' frame rates, its likely that the Scorpio will still offer parity with the base model so a 30fps MP will be 30fps on Scorpio but in Single Player modes, Scorpio could offer a 'native' 4k/30 or a checkerboard 4k/60 option - both of which with 4k textures etc. The Pro, as good as it is, often means picking a 'high res' mode or high frame rate mode with PS4 level visuals - you can't have both. Yes Checkerboard 4k isn't as 'ideal' as native but its still a '4k' option.
@Feena If you own a PC gaming rig, with desk, monitor etc, maybe you might want to 'chill' on the sofa and continue to play your game. The misconception is that these 'exclusives' are available on ANY PC via any source - like Steam for example - they are not. You have to have a Win10 PC, have an 'xbox' type universal profile - exactly the same as you would on a Console, and can only buy these from the Windows store - the same store that's on Xbox.
IF Sony put PSN on Windows 10 PC's and insisted you signed up to Playstation with a PSN profile and could ONLY buy through the PSN store but the same exclusive games were available and playable whether you bought through the PSN store on Console or PC, that's the equivalent principal here.
Yes these games maybe available to PC gamers - as long as you have a Win10 PC, the same OS as Xbox btw, create an 'Xbox' profile/account, and can ONLY buy from the 'Xbox/Win10' store - not steam, not from PC World or other retailers - just MS. MS see the Win10 eco-system as one unified group. As such, they are supplying games to ALL users within that eco-system rather than appearing to favour one or disregarding another section. Because PC's can also be part of 'other' gaming eco-systems - like Steam, they are only making their 'exclusives' available to the PC gamers who sign up to their 'gaming' ecosystem which Xbox is the console division and to ensure that ONLY those PC gamers that are part of it, they have to buy 'digitally' from the MS store.
BC is more than just convenience, a way to play old favorites, and with possible upgraded performance. BC offers 9 year old games like Fallout 3 and Gta 4 to gamers that missed some or all of last gen games. All on their xbone with no need to rent/stream or to purchase a used 360 in ? condition.
I still have a PS3 that works well and i know why PS3 can not play on a PS4 like 360 games will on XB1. I also know that used PS3's are available but in what condition. Downloading a digital copy to a PS4 , if possible, is more reliable.
On topic: Sony is probably not afraid as they have a huge lead this gen along with a huge amount of PS Plus subscribers. The PS4 slims will keep selling. The affect on Pro sales is where i am curious.
How many times! Scorpio will have no exclusive games, the same as ps4pro
@KratosMD The reason I bought xbox 360 is to play gear of war, halo, and 3rd party games that isn't released on ps3, so exclusive play a big part. If xbox doesn't have a good exclusive games then it will lose to ps4 that have 3rd party and exclusive games.
To success, a console must have 3rd party and exclusive games.
Eh, I'm skipping scorpio completely. I already have an X1 and a souped up PC, which basically gives me access to all games from 360 to now. I doubt the scorpio will perform.better than my PC, even with low level optimization. Pro will happen when I go 4k, or they make an attractive bundle.
No reason to be worried. The people who care that much about system specs are a small niche in the general gaming community, and the people who will buy the Scorpio will be a fraction of that niche, considering it probably won't offer anything that makes it more appealing than a proper gaming PC (other than price, but if price is the only issue, the PS4 Pro will probably look more attractive on that front anyway).
At the end of the day, without compelling exclusives to promote it, I can't imagine why the masses would adopt Scorpio. All of the best games will be available on Switch and PS4/Pro.
Yeah, I don't think Sony needs to worry about this. That said, I'm looking forward to see what Microsoft has in store at E3. It's all about the games.
@Splat True but the money is made in software more than hardware.
@FullbringIchigo How is it a flop when it selling better than the xbox 360 did??
buying an xbox when state of decay 2 and cuphead are released, thats for sure
I've still been thinking about an Xbox One...still somewhat, but am now putting money towards a Switch and a Playstation VR Headset first. The price has to be right on an Xbone, especially with the various problems I've had with the 360...still, unless I get a Kinect with XBONE, there's only a few games that would please me to get it (Cuphead hasn't been released yet, so I won't count that) but, Sunset Overdrive and Rare Replay are the only games I'd get for it, and I doubt another Viva Piñata or Banjo Kazoie title is coming and Conker...what happened to that and where is it now? If they would keep most of their IP's, (and I don't like Halo or Gears), I'd continue with them. Blinx was fun on Xbox, but they stopped...more that stopped...Project Gotham Racing, Rallisport Challenge, Fusion Frenzy, Amped, NFL Fever, Voodoo Vince and there were many others. I loved the original Xbox, but Sega was what got me to love it (Toe Jam And Earl 3, Shenmue 2, Panzer Dragoon Orta)...360 was fun with RARE's titles, but started to get old like the Wii eventually did.
Sony shouldn't worry, they're so far ahead in this console war, there's no need to worry, the 3rd party companies are going to develop their games where the audience is, and unless Microsoft sells the heck out of the Scorpio, they still won't have it...plus, just like what others mentioned, they need to focus on exclusive games, which they haven't been since the launch of the XBONE...the games are what will make or break a system as still keeping the 3rd parties happy...something that broke the Wii U from becoming a hit, and just like the Wii U, nintendo screwed up on the marketing, Microsoft did so with the XBONE, so it's pretty much at a loss, instead of them forking over the money for this, and possibly hurting their image to the fans that bought the XBONE, maybe just work more towards their next console, as the current ones are already in the 'mid' section of life. If Sony really was concerned, they'd just announce that they were working on the PS5, but they're not. And with more games announced for the PS4, Sony could still dominate and continue...plus, even the Switch, which is selling out, has big games that are coming and more to announce, and with Sony having the biggest section of E3 and nintendo in second, Microsoft needs to get on the ball and focus on the games more, but something tells me most of their E3 will be the focus on Scorpio, instead of games.
If Scorpio can deliver true 4K gaming (with UHD disc support) and can take advantage of PC games, Sony should be sweating a little. 1 in 5 getting a PS4Pro isn't a very good sales stat when NS just released and Microsoft is ramping up for holiday 2017.
Sony has had amazing content this year though, so I'm sure their software line-up will dazzle. The XBO camp needs to announce games very badly.
@manu0 Windows 10 was free. 😀 😁😂
@BraveFencerZan Everyone talks about 4K blurays but i wonder how many people really buy those movies on disk. I guess second to none.
I dont think we'll be seeing talk of next gen consoles for another couple of years, its just too soon. it just feels like things are really kicking off now, plus I really think they will wait until 4K TV's are more of the "norm" There is no point in releasing another console thats capable of 4K standard gaming until then. I guess thats what the Pro is for, a longish term bridge that gap until that point arrives. I reckon the Pro will get a bigger push in Q4 this year not just becuase of the Scorpio, but because 4K TV's will be pushed more in sales and the run up to Xmas and after. Sony should just put out a Black Friday only deal of a Sony 4K TV and a Pro Bundle with Horion Zero Dawn chucked in, It would absolutey sell.
Sony has 1080P screens with HDR soon that will be fun to see if it makes a big difference.
In terms of hardware, they should be terrified. It seems so far beyond PS4 Pro. But they have nothing to fear because they don't just have an edge in terms of content, they're leagues ahead!
Microsoft is losing on every single front. I'll wager they're more worried about losing office market share to google, and PC market share to apple (tablet AND mac). I'm sure xbox is an afterthought to execs compared to those battlefields.
@BUDSclass201 i said it's a flop because it's not selling as well as MS want it too, the 360 sales or how well it was doing at this point is unimportant because this isn't the 360
MS will be judging it on their competition, the PS4 and that has sold at least double what the XB1 has
it isn't selling to the levels MS predicted, it's being outsold by the competition AND they are losing third party advertisements (like Call of Duty or FIFA) to Sony, in the eyes of many consumers it's a flop, not a bad system just not worth it for a lot of people
think about it everyone says the Wii U was a flop but it still made Nintendo money and the XB1 while selling better is the same, still making MS money
i'm not saying it's a financial flop but a commercial one
@flaming-kaiser DVD and Bluray have been declining in sales, but UHD/4K has been selling in the millions since they launched. Could top $8.4million this year alone.
Also Sony can always counter with the PS5 in a few years if Scorpio does kick ass.
I can't see MS winning my business back any time soon that's for sure.
@Th3solution Fable wasn't too bad of a game, but if you already had quite the amount of RPG and RPG-Adventure titles on PS2, PS1 or even the upped consoles, it wasn't anything to write home about. Forza isn't the best racing game either, it's just the best racing game on Xbox...trust me, Gran Turismo is by far better. Other than that, the best exclusives for X-box was on their original console (Fable, Toe Jam And Earl 3, Shenmue 2, Elders Scrolls 3, Panzer Dragoon Orta and more)...that seemed to be the time where they felt more strong to myself...but sega really helped them out. There were a few on 360...Viva Pinata's were fun, Dead Or Alive Xtreme 2 was actually a fun volleyball sim, Alan Wake wasn't too bad, but once you start playing it, it seems like you've come to the game and the stories before (hint...Silent Hill and Eternal Darkness come to mind in a way). If you have a Wii, there's no real point in getting a 360, and with the games becoming hard to find, there's definitely no point now. I've stuck by Sony and Nintendo (granted I got rid of the Wii...just like you, a dust collector...and didn't keep the Wii U for that long...mainly due to having to wait 6 months for a new game to even arrive), but Sony and Nintendo seem to become the ones that will stick around for more generations...some reason, I don't see Microsoft sticking around in the console scene, but going back to the PC scene again.
Why would Sony be scared of Scorpio? The new Microsoft console could spit fivers out of the Blu-Ray drive once a week and Xbox One would still never catch up to PS4. It's over.
@Flaming_Kaiser I'm personally looking forward to trying out their 1080p HDR tvs. I tried a Samsung 4k TV and went back to 1080p.
Wonder what final name they will give to Scorpio?
Xbox One X?
Xbox One 2?
Xbox One Point Five?
