Sony’s clearly putting a little extra effort into PlayStation Plus this month, with June 2017 seeing Killing Floor 2 and Life Is Strange added to the service's repository of free games. But if you need a little extra convincing to subscribe, the platform holder’s teamed up with EA Games to giveaway free copies of Star Wars: Battlefront Ultimate Edition alongside any new subscriptions.
Now there are a couple of catches: firstly, this promotion is only available in Europe and Australia for now; secondly, it’s not available to existing members. If you happen to tick those checkboxes, though, you can jump through here and purchase a year’s membership. You’ll be emailed a download voucher for your free copy of Battlefront between five to 10 days after purchasing.

That's a shame considering the amount of sub-par months we've had on PS Plus over the last year or so. Would have been curious to give this a try with the sequel on the way.
No rewards for loyalty
hmm.
..nah.
@rjejr Is it really, though? Assassin's Creed 3 was free on PS Plus about four years ago, and Overwatch also had a free weekend on PS4 (and every other platform). So...
To add insult to injury, they emailed me this offer, even though it's not applicable.
I've never understood why companies do these offers, thumbing their noses at the existing customers. Sky are pretty awful for it also.
@JoeBlogs I guess the backwards compatibility adds extra value here, because the PS3 games are kinda worthless on PS Plus these days.
That said, I'd take Life Is Strange every single damn day of the week over AC3 and WD, but that's just personal taste innit. You can't please everyone.
That said, I appreciate I started this, but let's not turn the thread into a p*ssing contest.
@stevejcrow It's cost innit. It's viable to give away an added incentive to the few thousand people who are encouraged to sign up because of the promotion; not viable to toss it out to almost 30 million members.
It sucks, but I understand the finances behind it.
@get2sammyb "Is it really, though?"
Yes, it is. Taking that other console out of the equation - I know how you get - we're talking about an offer that's only available in the EU and Austraila, leaving about the US where I am, only available to new PS+ subscribers, didnt' you say there were like 26m of those already?, for a 7 month old game that has been selling for $19.99 someplace almost every weekend and has a $30 season pass. And as you like to point out, Sony doesn' toffer EA Access on PS4, and this is basically a reminder of that fact.
https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2017/02/talking_point_should_playstation_be_paying_attention_to_xbox_game_pass
So yes, as lame as lame gets on it's own merits, the other console has nothing to do w/ how lame it is, but reading the title I thought "new" meant new to SWB, which admittedly made no sense, but did make me think of the free weekends MS has been offering, yes. Is PS4 getting FIFA 17 free this weekend, you didn't mention that one?
I know it's too late now, but for future reference should Sony have another offer like this again try writing:
Star Wars Battlefront Free with PlayStation Plus If You're New
as
Star Wars Battlefront Free with New PlayStation Plus Subscription
@JoeBlogs I care what's on PS3, still play it, still have 2 hooked up and using, Earth Defense Force was a nice surprise (I probably got that name wrong, think shooting giant bugs). But PS3 doesn't really matter, if I play those X360 games it will be on my X1. If they weren't playable on X1, like PS3 games aren't always playable on PS4, then you'd have a point and I wouldn't care b/c I've never had a X360.
And despite what sammy says, Fallout 4 last weekend, FIFA 17 this weekend, those games matter as much as SWB, even if I screwed up about Overwatch.
That's not a bad incentive, the Ultimate edition come's with the season pass so there's load's of content there to play and load's of skill's and gun's to unlock. It's no Overwatch sweatfest but it is genuinly just good fun, crappy deal if you don't live in the UK and Aus obviously, that suck's.
@JoeBlogs well i still play my PS3 so i do but i get your point, with the PS3 production stopping soon (or has it already stopped) there is little value putting PS3 games on the service now but i guess that's where the XB1 backwards compatibility works so well as it gives MS a bigger selection of games to offer with GWG
of course Sony could counter this by making select games on PSNow part of the PS+ service each month but put a time limit on them say 2 months, that should be long enough for most people to get their fill (as in each month 2 games are added while 2 are taken off this would mean you have 4 games to play on the service each month 2 new and 2 old)
EDIT: Let me explain lets say first month you add Assassin's Creed II and Arkham City, the second month you add Killzone 3 and Dragon Age then the Third month you add Metal Gear Solid 4 and Skyrim while removing Assassin's Creed II and Arkham City (just using those games as examples)
@get2sammyb yeah gold is currently way better that's just a fact I'm afraid. Sony has a good month with plus in June but usually gold has them beat.
@Wasted_Smuggler It isn't a fact, it's a subjective opinion.
As a former subscriber to Gold and a current subscriber to Plus, I can honestly say that in my opinion, Gold is superior.
No one has stated the most obvious reason and that's because once you download those Gold games they are yours no matter if you have a current Gold Subscription or not. Once my subscription runs out for Plus, I'll loose access to every game I downloaded.
@dkxcalibur well the XB1 games you can't can't keep (trust me i found that out when my Gold ran out) but you do get to keep the 360 games which is always good
@get2sammyb and there was a free FIFA17 weekend ages ago as well
@JoeBlogs @Fullbringlchigo
Yeah, I didn't know that. My statement was based off of my Gold account I had on my 360. So both are even in that category on the current generation.
Scum.
@dkxcalibur As @JoeBlogs and @FullBringIchigo state, the Xbox One offerings are NO different to PS+ in that you have to maintain your Gold Subscription to continue playing. That being said, ALL the Backwards Compatible games are yours to keep no matter what.
I know its subjective and personal preference but I do think IGC is nowhere near as good as GwG. I have gone in to the reasons why on another thread (the announcement of Junes IGC games). I do find it somewhat hypocritical because back on Last Gen, Sony fans mocked Xbox for offering 'Arcade/Budget' games a lot whilst IGC was giving its subscribers AAA titles and now the roles have 'reversed', these 'indies' are somehow better now?
I know its a matter of opinion but there is no way Killing Floor 2 is better than the plethora of AAA FPS games Sony could have offered - inc SW:BF to its members. Instead of offering 'one off' enticements like SW:BF to 'new' members only, they could have offered games like this to ALL members and that 'calibre' of offerings each month 'could' entice people to subscribe and 'keep' subcribed as well as keeping the 'loyal' fans happy and not feel so much like we are 'forced' to buy PS+ for full access to the games we have paid £40+ for. Some one off 'goodwill' gesture may well get some people to subscribe but whether or not its enough to keep them subscribed, time will tell. If when they get bored of SW:BF, then what? If there was a reason they didn't subscribe, that reason will exist beyond this game. Obviously Online wasn't 'much' of an incentive before and IGC isn't either otherwise they would have subscribed.
Maybe AC3 wasn't the 'best' Assassin's Creed game, but that's not the ONLY game this month - you also have Watchdogs and Dragon Age Origins. AC3 and DA:O are yours to keep forever - regardless of subscription status and ANY one of these offers more 'hours' worth than LiS. DA:O alone could keep you playing all month and beyond - yes it maybe showing its age and maybe not as 'visually' pleasing as LiS is.
Maybe if you are 'lucky' enough to work in the gaming industry or have a lot of cash to get a LOT of AAA games, then having some 'newer' indies you haven't got are better than having 3 or 4 games you have already played but I know which service offers the better option for me.
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi *Rebel scum.
It will definitely be a bit or a lot of fun for people new to the game. Well done for once, Sony!
Isn't SWB pants though?
To be honest it's a good deal to get new people to subscribe to the service. It's like Dish and DirecTV pushing their "2-year price lock" thing down people's throats to get them to either sign up or switch from the competitor.
Gotta do something to get more people that are previously on the fence.
How good is Games with gold on Xbox if you do not own own or want to own a Xbox? I do not wish to play Halo, Gears, and Forza!
Multiplat games are better on PlayStation! That is my opinion and that's is all I care about is my opinion. I can not use it = worthless! It will not get me online multiplayer on PlayStation= worthless!
@BAMozzy Just for the record, I did say that I think Gold/Live is better then Plus.
@Deadlyblack ......or take care of existing subscribers who have been loyal so that they don't let their subscription run out when their term is over.
@rjejr Nothing new really, is it?
@rjejr no offence but I don't see the worst Ass Creed and a game you can pick up for £5 to be a mega month (as much as I enjoyed Watch_Dogs)
I don't see Battlefront as a big deal either that goes for under a fiver on eBay as well
@rjejr No one's policing anything, but someone has to call out some of the utter b*llocks you come out with in practically every thread.
EDIT: "Shouldn't you be writing new articles and not worrying about people disagreeing w/ you in the comments section?"
Also, are you seriously telling me how I should and shouldn't spend my time?
@JoeBlogs Of course we don't know. Prices on Amazon may be holding up more for PS4 because they can. If the PS4 games weren't selling as many, then they would drop in price. Amazon drops prices to sell and keeps prices at a point to maximise profits. I bet it costs Amazon the same to buy PS4 stock as it does Xbox One (unless the stockists are doing the same - keeping PS4 prices higher because of more demand).
Of course I don't know if Sony would have to pay more to offer a AAA game than MS or whether Sony would rather pay less to offer Indies because they can. MS may feel they have to offer 'better' because they feel they have to in an effort to try and make Xbox a more appealing proposition.
We may not know the reasons, costs involved etc. I still think Sony should have offered SW:BF for all its PS+ subscribers and it may have had the same result - i.e. enticing new subscribers as well as rewarding its loyal subscribers who have contributed to Sony's (gaming) profits helping them to make offers like this. Having games like this - even if its once or twice every quarter would go some way to increasing subscriptions and keeping them as subscribers too. What's stopping those subscribers from cancelling in a month when they have had enough of BF? Getting any unused months back?
@GlynCR I can see it your way. i think it was a combination of how sammy wrote the title, how Sony limited this to first time PS+ subscribers only, on a system that requires online to play so probably most people who want SP+ already have it and this game wont' matter, and the name recognition for the Xbox games. AC3 and W_D may not be the best, but more people have heard of them than Life is Strange, even is LiS is much better (I haven't played any of them so I have no idea.) I've never heard of KF2 before a week ago. And MS just started Game Pass, so there's that. I'm sure you'll say that sucks too, most gamers say subscription services suck b/c they just buy everything they want, but as somebody new to Xbox there are a bunch of games I want to play on there I was never going to buy but I'll pay $9.99 for a month and play what I can after the 2 week free trial is up. And last weekends 5 days of Fallout 4 made me realize it wasn't for me.
So maybe it wasn't a "mega-month" on Xbox Gold, but as a long time PS+ subscriber, started day 1 but I took a couple of years off, Gold has looked better to me the past few months. That's all my point was, and there are people on here who agree with me. Maybe they're all just X-box fan bois, I dont' know, but I'm a Sony fanboy if anything, and I'd say overall for 2017 Gold looks better than PS+, no contest.
Xbox 1 being so far behind PS4 might be a logical reason for that, MS is doing whatever they can playing catch-up, but it doesn't change how I view it.
@get2sammyb - One of the funniest comments ever on PS. I actually burst out laughing in Dusseldorf airport while waiting for my delayed ba flight.
No one gives a rat's ass about fifa 17 😂 weakest fifa in years! Sold it after a week! While the free weekends are nice, I'm at that age now where I'm working away most weekends and miss them or I'm fortunate enough to have cash spare to buy said game. Fifa isn't and never will be a deal breaker for most people.
I couldn't care less about EA access either. I own a handful of EA games. The only one I play on occasion is madden. I'm not paying extra a month to play games 'early'.
@rjejr "All you and Shogun do nearly every single thread is either ask people to get back on topic or you ask us to stay on topic before we've even had a chance to go off. Every. Single. Thread."
Care to prove that or are you just talking bull again?
@BAMozzy I think you have to subscribe for a year if you take up this offer, so if you get bored of star wars, Sony still got your money.
@rjejr If @ShogunRok and I are policing "every single thread" as you say, surely you'd only need to click on a couple on the homepage?
I agree that the discussion should be left, but that would suit you seeing as you know you just posted yet more nonsense that you can't back up...
Damn you the State's get screwed again lol!
So the moral of the story is, psplus has evolved so only if your new will you get a AAA game.
This promo may backfire.
I saw this was a Battlefront and it had to be that @rjejr troublemaker
Sony, thank you for giving me more incentives NOT to renew Plus. They should give a discount for renewal to existing owners in order to encourage continuation and loyalty. But in all truth most of these services are like that, like Amazon Prime, they seem to care more about new customers than existing ones.
PS+ falls in the same category as microtransactions for me.
@rjejr don't let them get to you buddy. I said about two years ago, Not long after using this site. The comments section is more like a dictatorship than anything else.
@sinalefa "they seem to care more about new customers than existing ones."
Most of the business world is like that. Any time you have a recurring bill, whether it's car/home insurance or newspaper delivery or cable TV, the only way to get a good rate is to be a "new" subscriber, then after that they just continually jack you up. I've read online people in the US w/ car insurance should switch insurers every year to keep from getting fleeced. I was w/ my car insurers for 19 years, w/o an accident no less, and my last 10% jump got me to switch, my bill went from $2,400yr to $1,500yr. Now every week in the mail I get a letter from the old company asking me to switch back. Not gonna happen, after paying that much money for 19 years w/o a payout I told them they should give my my 20th year free, I'd paid them about $40,000 and got nothing in return. Switched my home owners insurance, went from $2,000yr to $1,000yr. Turned out I think my first insurer was ripping me off though. I cancel my newspaper every 2 or 3 years, my cable tv every year, but they always woo me back.
And people wonder why I'm cranky all the time.
As for PS+ - to come back round on topic for sammy - I signed up Day 1 and had it for 2 years, then I let it lapse for 2 years, signed back up on a BF sale, then bought it again last year for $45 a few days after they raised it to $60, figured that was as good as it was going to get. My kid will probably buy it, or more likely get it as a gift, going forward, he's the only one who likes playing online.
Oh, update, I'm not done w/ SO yet but it's way better than I expected it to be. Easily my favorite X1 game. It's very easy, I almost never die except boss battles, so that helps.
@Michaelkirk02 Only sammy gets to me b/c I've been on this website since the beginning, feels like 10 years now, and it used to feel different. Or maybe it's just me who's different, old and cranky in general. My wife will tell you, I'm a different, for the worse, man, life is dragging me down. I come to places like this to cheer myself up, not deal w/ being scolded.
@rjejr honestly don't worry. its a comment section. It's ment to be commented on.
@rjejr
Thanks for the SO update. Regarding PS Plus, I will probably not renew it, the only maybe is precisely Battlefront 2 but it has single player.
If I can play Arms and Splatoon for free and then for $20 a year, I will definitely go that route.
