Almost 40 years after its debut, Gundam is still insanely popular in Japan, so it comes as no real surprise to learn that the latest Gundam video game has absolutely massacred the latest Japanese software charts. Gundam Versus - a PlayStation 4 exclusive - soared to number one, shifting a very respectable 121,444 copies. We imagine that it'll be hanging around the top 20 for a number of weeks before it eventually drops off.
Despite Gundam Versus' success, however, the PS4 itself only saw a slight sales boost, with the standard console hopping to 22,704 units. Combined with PS4 Pro numbers, Sony's current-gen platform once again outsold the Nintendo Switch.

This is not a 'respectable' number for Gundam Versus, as a mainline entry this is actually very poor andby no means a success ....
Glad PS4 numbers are holding up though! next weeks will be interesting we have DQ and Splatoon!
@Godsent Any home console exclusive game doing over 100k in Japan in its first week is respectable in this day and age. Have to remember past Gundam Versus games were on platforms with larger install bases, too.
Haven't tried it myself but the trial demo for Gundam Versus is available in JP's PSN Store.
Remember when Switch was supposed to become a runaway hit?
Yeah, me neither.
I'm just here for nier automata
PS3 still alive and kickin'!
GTA5 has been stinking the Japanese charts for ages now. It must be the biggest grossing game ever now.
Will we see GTA 6 before 2020?
@Mahe Yeah it seems the honeymoon period is over....well until Splatoon 2 (1.5) drops. Japan loves their kids and squids.
Here in Australia nobody gives a hoot about the Switch, plenty of stock on shelves. The fact that its around $150-200 more than a PS4 or X1 ain't doing it any favours either.
