Layers of Fear developer Bloober Team has revealed that its next title, cyberpunk horror Observer, will launch on the PlayStation 4 on 15th August. The game, set in 2084, will see you assume the role of a neural detective, and will find you entering the thoughts of suspects in order to solve crimes. In other words, you’re quite literally a member of the thought police.
There’s a great bit in the press release which sets out the developer’s stall here: “Developed by Bloober Team, the creators of Layers of Fear, Observer is a horror experience meant for mature audiences. What you see will disturb you.” Bold, Bloober Team – very bold. If we don’t cry ourselves to sleep after playing this, then we’re coming for you.

Wow where did this come from? Coming out so soon too. Looks promising.
@Elodin don't you just love it when games are kept a secret then revealed to be released in only a few weeks?!
Looks interesting. I'm not the biggest fan of horror unless it's done right but I love a good cyberpunk setting. I'll observe this.
Really enjoyed Layers of Fear so definitely going to get this at some point, looks very atmospheric!
I loved the psychedelic horror of Layers of fear although it was more a walking simulator than an actual game. But definitely looking forward to this.
By the way, is that Rutger Hauer?!
Edit. It actually is!
@ToniK It is, yeah!
The seeds for this have already been planted, and I'm sure it's only current technological limits holding it back!
Definitely looks interesting!
Oh wow this looks awesome as a trailer. So Bladerunner visuals and music, Rutger Hauer (a star of bladerunner) and Neuromancer style plotlines? Zing, this looks ace. The question is, will I be able to fit this inbetween Hellblade and UC?
@Rudy_Manchego
Yeah, it's kinda blatant how much they're referencing Blade Runner but I guess you could say they're wearing their inspiration on their sleeve. But hey! It's not like we're flooded with games in Cyberpunk setting.
@Lurker I dig it, but yeah when I saw the police car I was wondering if Ridley Scott might not start a lawsuit!
I think that we are going to get flooded with Cyberpunk stuff over the next year or so. Seen this, that XB1 exclusive indie game (forgotten the name), Cyberpunk from CD PRojekt Red, as well as Bladerunner and Ready Player One movies coming out.
You DO see what they did there with the year right? Right? 1984? 2084? Nice one.
@Rudy_Manchego Yeah, but I wouldn't call three games and two movies a real flood, considering that two of those games are basically indies and the third one is probably not close to release.
When it comes movies I don't know if either of them are gonna be "big" with audiences, don't know much about the Spielberg one (but meh, it's Spielberg) and the new Blade Runner looks very promising, mainly because Denis Villeneuve is one of the most talented directors around, but I don't think even the most hardcore fans would call this sequel necessary and it doesn't exactly look like a blockbuster mass audiences flock to.
So all in all I don't expect a huge Cyberpunk boom anytime soon, even if it would be really nice.
