PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds will come to the PlayStation 4 – or will it? If it will, then Microsoft doesn’t want you to think it will: the Redmond manufacturer announced that it will be publishing the console version of the game exclusively on the Xbox One this holiday, though it’s unclear if its ties to the platform are timed.
That was certainly the case back at E3 2017, as Microsoft leaned on its Game Preview initiative to flaunt “launch” exclusivity. The language is similar a couple of months later, although developer BlueHole notes that it’s working with the platform holder to get the console version out sooner. Where does this leave the PS4 version?
Well, it’s important to remember that we’ve been here before: Rise of the Tomb Raider was published by Microsoft and still launched on the PS4 a year later. More importantly, the firm used very specific language regarding that relationship, too. Our guess? This is an Xbox One “exclusive” while it remains in Early Access, and then it will launch elsewhere.
Of course, we will try to get some concrete clarification, but you know how these things go – it’s what isn’t said that you really need to be paying attention to.

This is the second game of the generation Microsoft has done this with compared to....how many for Sony now?
Still it is confusing because I thought it WAS coming to PS4. But they are being deliberately vague. Then again, so is Sony with Crash, they never said it wasn't going elsewhere, and that's what acts as a hook.
One thing is for certain though. PUBG wont be on Switch. Not enough buttons
I guess the positive of this is that if there is timed exclusivity on X1, PS4 will get a less buggy game (hopefully). It's a bit of a mess on PC still, and it certainly wouldn't pass certification from MS or Sony as is.
@BLP_Software Tell me which game had a 1 year exclusive deal on the PS4?
There'll be no concrete info on a PS4 version until long after the XB1 is released. I mean think about it, MS will want people to at least think that their console is the only one the game will be available for. Some people may even buy an XB1 because of it. If there's any confirmation that it will indeed be released on PS4 later, it could potentially harm XB1 sales. Especially since it's a team game and alot of its players will want it on the same console as their friends.
@Flaming_Kaiser Not one year but most certainly 1 month to timed DLC. Heck there could be a 1 year exclusivity and for all we know, it could actually be Crash!
I was more referring to the timed exclusivity in general. Its a practice I don't like from any of the 3 camps (The other 2 when they can get them, at least).
@RedMageLanakyn Have you seen what has crept onto the PS Store? A buggy PUBG is a blessing XD
@BLP_Software Yeah, from what I've seen on here there are some stinkers! I guess PUBG could go the Ark PS4 route and capitalize while it's still popular. Would go hand in hand with update 5.0.
@BLP_Software If I recall correctly, Destiny has one year exclusive raids or DLCs on PS4. Granted they're all pretty ass, but generally timed exclusive is a massive slap to the consumers.
@BLP_Software Microsoft started the timed exclusivity bs and continues to persist with it to this day.
@BLP_Software Sony is usually clear with the type exclusivity it get, there's ps exclusive, ps console exclusive, ps timed exclusive, and for crash they straight up don't say anything.
While microsoft usually very vague about the exclusivity of its games, like tomb raider holidays exclusive (rather than timed exclusive), launch exclusive, and this early access exclusive.
Lol who cares to many games as is! !!
Is pubg that big a deal?...don't really know anything about it but it kind of looks like one of those games that is going to be in permanent beta or get an update every time you turn on your console( like Ark had 5 updates last week)

I personally don't like these kinds of games. I don't know how can people play such games. poor animation and texture... don't get me wrong. I'm a person who goes back and plays 90s' games now and then. all I'm saying is that this game strikes me as a...7th generation game "Hardly". regarding this news... I'd be glad if Sony didn't let Early Access grow on PS4 as it did on steam and...maybe Xbox.
@teknium_ I believe it sold 6 million copies so far, in beta. A lot of people are into it apparently. I don't see the appeal, but that's just me. Like you said, it really looks like one of those games that is going to be in a beta limbo forever.
@Cyph0Lax PUBG does not have poor animations or textures. Are they kind of bland? Sure, but animation aside the game is still really nice looking. Especially explosions, water, and rain. Is it buggy? Sure sometimes it is, but even games that have been fully released can be buggy.
I have over 30 hours of PUBG on PC, and while it isn't my favorite multi-player game, I think it's a great game for people that love competitive multi-player games. I remember when single player survival horror games illicited the same kind tension, anxiety, and pure rush that PUBG gives me now.
This is definitely a next gen game in terms of tech, mechanics, and community interaction (on Twitch).
I suggest people just buy and play PUBG on Steam/PC anyways, the community tends to focus there anyway and it's quite cheap and the recommend specs to play isn't that high.
Hell my friend plays PUBG on his potato laptop during breaks.
@BLP_Software Timed DLC is nothing like a game release 1 year later and lets be fair MS invented the Timed exclusive.
Does it matter? Let's just leave this on the Xbox, they haven't had anything else to play this year have they 😂😂😂
@BLP_Software that still makes me laugh as to why a developer would spout such nonsense, its not as if they could have just googled an image of the controller
Microsoft are so irritating for this. All they do is announce exclusives and then dodge questions until the games are announced for PS4.
@Constable_What sure the game has so many fans, and I'm not saying it's a trash. it's just that I don't like Early Access games and these game have been growing larger in numbers and some proved to be rather disappointing like DayZ, I don't have PUBG. I just hope the "Early Access" label is removed soon. because if I'm going to be honest, I can't trust any game carrying that label with it...
@teknium_ It is a very popular game at the moment, and is definitely best played with friends. Even for a game in beta, it plays well, but it is dependent on your hardware. They stated the game would be out of early access by the end of the year, we'll see if they stick to that. Probably the best $30 I've spent this year, friends and I have over 150 hours in and it's still a blast.
@Cyph0Lax I get that. I bought DayZ...
That was a mistake.
Sony aren't exactly 'saints' when it comes to 'exclusivity' either. This gen, they secured two fight games Injustice (No XB1 version) and Street Fighter 5 too. They were also the ones who went to far on 'content' too - a 'YEAR' with Destiny - inc DLC content. Lets not forget all the other 'Bonus' game-play extra's that Sony has secured for its users - Extra missions etc that are ONLY on Sony's consoles. Until recently, the most Xbox ever did was 'delay' the release date of some DLC by up to a month.
Maybe its because most on here are young and don't remember when Sony joined the Console market. Maybe its because people only 'remember' the times that the 'deal's' have not worked out in Sony's favour and 'forget' all the deals that they 'could' have benefited from - free games (BF1942 free with BF3, AC free with one of the PS3 AC games - I forget which one now), free 'extra' content (AV4 had a bonus content and Watchdogs too if I recall correctly), and minimum 1 year 'exclusivity' of content (Destiny!!).
I could go back through time and pick 'franchises' that Sony picked up from 'others' - not just from Xbox that gave them exclusivity for a certain time - whether just that 'generation' or 'timed'.
To say MS started this practise is BS. I am certainly not saying they are 'perfect' but they are just doing what others have been doing for years - even before MS released the original Xbox - even though its 'success' was built on purchasing a 'game/franchise' and 'exclusivity' for them - Halo of course...
Point is, its part of the eco-system now. If MS don't, Sony will and that's certainly been in evident lately with Sony picking up 'everything' that MS 'had' - CoD, Fifa etc.
Personally I couldn't care less about PUBG and part of the reason I have both a PS and XB is because of stupid 3rd Party deals and the ability to take advantage of them should I wish. I won't be bothering with PUBG though...
@triforcehero wrong ps4 has exclusive strikes. Not something as critical as dlc or a raid
Its very clear that PUBG is a timed exclusive on Xbox. At e3 they announced PUBG as an XB1X "Launch" Exclusive which Phil Spencer clarified in an interview that means it will launch first on Xbox and its up to the developer if they want to bring it to another console after that.
Common sense will tell you that 60mil PS4 userbase will bring the game over sooner or later.
I dislike timed exclusivity on all platforms, not just when it doesn't work out for me. This is clearly coming to PS4 unless MS have paid a hell of a lot to secure the rights. If they have then they are laughing, when it goes live they are upping the price and introducing micro transactions. Add in exclusivity moolah and they are sitting pretty.
It's just a desperate move by a company that's getting increasingly desperate with each passing month. Their stretching the term "exclusivity" beyond recognition, their creating services that don't add much beyond scoring cheap PR points from Sony (game pass and cross platform play)
while canceling and heavily delaying any games that had a vague whiff of interest. And yet their wanting to release a overpriced box with no games just for the sole purpose of saying "most powerful console ever".
There are some legitimate criticisms with the Switch but most of us can agree that offers a more compelling product then what Xbox offers right now.
I'm sure I heard them say it was only a timed exclusive for Xbox and it was defo coming to the PS4, not bothered either way it looks crappy
The maker of PUBG himself said they partnered with Microsoft so they can make the game better and ready for consoles. While it is some form of exclusivity, these guys are a small dev team and having Microsoft step in to show them the ropes is a good thing.
Besides that, Sony fans conveniently forget the cross-platform play debacle. Bluehole wants to add this to PUBG through a separate mode, Microsoft works on both PC and the XBO console, this will help Bluehole achieve that goal. Meanwhile, Sony doesn't want to play cross-platform ball with anyone...unless it's an exclusivity deal like SF5.
