Sony’s upcoming God of War soft-reboot will be the “most brutal” entry yet, PlayStation marketing bigwig Asad Qizilbash said at the GameStop Expo this weekend. That’d be some feat, seeing as God of War III saw you literally rip Helios’ head off – and also stick your thumbs in Poseidon’s eyes. How do you even top that?
In addition to teasing imminent violence, Qizilbash spent a little time praising the team at Sony Santa Monica as well, noting that they’re “phenomenal” and “in the right place” to blow people away. Does anyone have any doubts that this title is going to be anything short of sublime? As a reminder: check out the ridiculous E3 2017 trailer.

My most anticipated game for next year.
The only bad thing I can say about this game is that I cant play it right now.
of course it is.it's the best PlayStation franchise ever.kratos is back kicking ass.breaking backs
Good stuff. Can't have God of War without the brutal violence.
I hope it is true. A lot of God of War fans were worried about the game being less brutal compared to the previous games.
I think the over the shoulder camera view is going to make everything feel more brutal. Everything is going to feel more up close and personal.
Do we know he meant "brutal" as in violence and not "brutal" as in difficulty?
I like crushing everything and everyone before me as Kratos, I don't want to start dieing 5x every fight and looking at Game Over screens constantly.
I am still very much undecided on this. I am not a fan of the God of War franchise at all (or any of the games that were similar in game-play) but the original reveal of this really grabbed my attention. The last E3 video wasn't, for me at least, quite so interesting - maybe because I am not a 'fan' of the franchise but by the same token, it didn't put me off either.
Its not a game that I think I will pre-order but its still sat in my 'wait and see' list and not dropped to my 'not interested at all' list - which is better than most GoW games have achieved.
I really hope this is more a reboot and a new direction but I also understand that fans of the franchise will be looking for more of the same...
This looks like it could be the first GoW I buy on release. Word up son.
is this really necessary?
I mean, I'm not sure how much further they can go after God of War III. Ripping open a centaur's belly and seeing it's innards splaying out was never not disgusting, and hat was just a regular enemy.
Honestly I'll be surprised if they can shock anyone with violence any more! Still, however violent it is, I can't wait to play it
Everything about this just looks and sounds incredibly disappointing. Also wasn't a fan of the cruelty in the first game.
Hope the people who are excited for it are satisfied in the end, though.
This is now off my must-buy list.
And then I thought they couldn't top the level of violence in GoW3,
It will be the God of War where Kratos gets a heart and learns that you don't have to kill everything
This is good to hear. Many a games journalist complains about Kratos, but I like how angry and violent he is.
