Despite being developed in less than a year, we believe there’s a case to be made for Uncharted: The Lost Legacy being the best in the series. While the stakes aren’t anywhere near as high as they were in Nathan Drake’s last ever adventure, there’s no doubt that Chloe and Nadine’s outing has a much better mix of mechanics – and some decent new ideas to boot.
But while we compared the title to a Greatest Hits album in our review – explaining that the spin-off’s “short on surprises but a blast from start to finish” – we want to know whether you agree. Is the newest title from Naughty Dog capturing your imagination – or are you tired of this specific brand of swashbuckling some six entries in?
We want to hear your impressions in the comments section, but be sure to avoid spoilers if you can – the title’s still only a day or two old depending where you’re from. Are you impressed how quickly the developer’s put a product of this quality together? Do you think that Chloe can front the franchise now that Nate’s hung up his half-tuck? Let us know.

I've been ruminating on this and... I think The Lost Legacy might be the best Uncharted. It's definitely, in my opinion, the most rounded and consistent — even if it perhaps doesn't have the same highs as U2 and U4.
I've been tired of this series since the first entry, yet I've still played all of them (well, sans this one). It's the weirdest thing!
I guess them being short, action movie-esque experiences helps. If Lost Legacy is as good as UC4, I'll definitely pick it up on sale one day.
Missing the banter of nate and sully to be fair. Only just started it . Hopefully we get a cutter , sully and Sam adventure next
I probably shouldn't have voted in the poll yet - I've only played Chapter 1, but so far it seems like more Naughty Dog goodness. I've always loved the Uncharted series, and came away from A Thief's End genuinely considering whether it was the best game I've ever played. So fair to say that expectations are high. Hopefully will get chance to explore further this evening.
Haven't gotten far in it, but I like what I'm playing.
I got tired of those games. I firstly tried Golden Abyss when it was free where I basically destroyed two armies of enemies for no real interesting reason. Then I tried the free plus games but got the same fealing. After also playing The Last of Us I think I am done with those ND games.
If it ends up on plus I'll probably give it a go, but after mulling it over I'm probably going to give it a miss. I play the UC games for the story, and I'm just not interested in Chloe or Nadine.
Poll is broken. Needs a "I bought it but haven't played it yet" as in my case I cannot vote in the second one.
Case of not having finished downloading plus waiting for my bro to come back to start it. I will share impressions in a future WAYP.
Not a fan of the jeep open worldy bits - didn't like it in Uncharted 4 either. Makes treasure hunting a pain getting in and out etc...maybe I'm just getting jaded.
woah, slow down, my copy hasn't even been delivered yet!
I've been enjoying it. I just got out of the wide open area, and so far, I think I've been liking this better than Thief's End, which was good, but kinda disappointed me. I'll have to give 4 another whirl after this.
Something I've been enjoying is that the firefights haven't been as irritating as in 3 or 4. The difficultly has been just right. And being able to open lockboxes in addition to the traversal and stealth introduced in 4 has made this pretty well rounded thus far.
Chloe and Nadine are an alright pair as well. I'm already happy that Nadine is actually showing some personality and is pretty useful during gameplay, but the contrast she gives with Chloe makes an interesting team.
I'll get it when it's a tenner
I'm literally just watching the credits roll. Took me just over 8 hours.
It was fantastic!!
I really feel like it takes the series to a whole new high in terms of gameplay and presentation.
The attention to detail is unreal. I lost my s##t when I heard Tamil being spoken in the Indian district.
I'm going to double dip and pick up a physical copy when I can- that's how highly I think of this game.
Uncharted can live on without Nathan Drake.
@get2sammyb I don't think I heard the classic Uncharted theme play at all. Do you think it was retired with Nate?
I would if I had it
@DM666 I agree about the jeep/open-world bits. I prefer it (and UC4) when the game has more of a focused narrative. Saying that I'm still enjoying it. I think I'm on chapter 4 at the moment. Because it's short I should hopefully finish it before Destiny 2 comes along. Too many games to play right now!!
just got to the first vehicle section been ok so far
What's nice about this game is that it feels so familiar I can just jump right in. The frustrating thing is the action set piece tidbits. I like the climbing exploring and occasional shootout, the pastoral moments. I realize now that the second character is to drive the story because otherwise we'd just have a long Chloe monologue. I will play more later.
A greatest hits type of experience is exactly what I hoped for, and it's been great. So far this has hit all the high points of the series, without me wishing I could cut out pieces of the game to improve the pacing.
It's shaping up to be my favorite, I guess because they condensed the story beats in a much faster-paced plot.
ND hit this one out the park. A physical release, great pricepoint, and exciting plot.
I have installed it and got as far as the menu screen. Its a pretty menu screen mind! I look forward to playing once I finish infamous
@Fight_Teza_Fight That's a good point, I never noticed it wasn't there. I guess with it literally being called 'Nate's Theme', it's probably done now.
@get2sammyb funny you say that because I was just thinking the same thing playing it. I'm only on chapter 4 but omg is it lovely it's proof that nd could do an open world game. Right now I think I would put 4 just ahead of it by a hair but it's def tied with 2 as my second favorite Uc game it's just amazing and I want more games with Chloe
@belmont must hate extremely good games that are classics
@DLB3 damn I'm at three and a half hours and still haven't even started 1 of the three forts in chapter 4
Don't know if it's been done in other exclusives but I think a cool touch is that when your in photo mode (activated in the menu the click L3+R3 that you can actually change between 6 or 7 of Chloes facial expressions. Pretty neat touch to catch some crazy photos.
@Ralizah
I am in the same boat as you were but this game blew the boat out of the water! They fixed the boredom of the climbing levels and made it exciting and fun again like in Uncharted 2. This game is very solid and precise super fast paced than U4 and with no filler.
In terms of gameplay experience UTLL is probably on the top three if not top two Uncharted with U2 AT at No.1.
This game is Uncharted polished and perfected!
@THRILLHOU
This game has one of the best story telling Uncharted and all video games.
@Ralizah as a long time Uncharted gamer this game breaks the monotony and is a perfect Uncharted game.
This game is PURE Uncharted gameplay, man.
No filler.
I finished it after around 9 hours and for me, I thought it was incredible and if the decide to explore more Chloe and Nadine antics they can take my money now!
Will start again on Crushing over the weekends as I want the Platinum to add to my 7 other Uncgarted plats 😁
Might be my new favorite Uncharted.
Nearing the end of the game after blasting through it, it's really enjoying it so far, the leads are excellent and work well together, world is gorgeous and gameplay is as solid if unremarkable as U4, the whole Indian mythology is really interesting to follow
I actually just picked up Uncharted 4 in the PS4 Bundle today, a few hours ago. So yeah I'm playing that.
I actually still own and finished all uncharted games.( sans golden abyss). Im on ch 7 on lost legacy i havent enjoyed an uncharted this much since part 2. I really have no answer besides maybe i like the characters a bit more. Im not sure. But i would put this easily in top 3 behind part 2 only. But a tad over 4 imo.
@get2sammyb That raises an interesting question. If someone came to you and said they never played Uncharted and could ONLY pick one to play..which one do you suggest? Btw, you saying Lost Legacy is the best one is KILLING me right now. My game disc is screwy so I'm waiting on a replacement to be sent before I can play! 😭
To be honest, this is the only Uncharted game that I do not pre order or pick up day 1. I love Uncharted series & Nathan Drake & Elena. But I'm not that really interest or into Chloe & kinda hate Nadine. To be fair, Nadine is one of the villains of UC4 so it is kinda ok to hate her, I guess.
Even after watching the extended gameplay from E3. I'm still do not feel the urge to pick this up yet I had preordered all previous Uncharted games. I was hoping an adventure from young Sully before he meet young kid Nathan.
Regardless, this game will be good, it is an Uncharted game after all. Although I'm not into it but might pick this up on sale down the road.
@get2sammyb I'm really going to miss it if that's the case.
@wilsondtm I felt the same about Chloe and Nadine. Would've preferred Sully and Sam, but this is Naughty Dog. Character development is what they do. By the end I really loved Chloe and grew to like Nadine. She really does stand on her own and fits perfectly into the Uncharted universe.
I've been taking my sweet time playing it, as I want to explore the Western Ghats area as much as I can before I move forward. I'm really enjoying it so far
@Fight_Teza_Fight Agree with the character development part. This is one of the strengths in Naughty Dog's game. I like Chloe back to UC2 days but just not really into her like I did with Nathan/Elena/Sully even Cutter in UC3. I can't really point out particular reasons why I can't fully get into Chloe. But I feel she just don't 'click' with me that much. Glad to know that Nadine is able to hold herself as character & main protagonist in this game after her UC4 events.
May I ask, without any spoiler, how is the interaction level between Chloe & Nadine in the game? Are they always fight each other verbally or they are friend & will crack some jokes around like Nathan & Sully?
I like it so far, but I don't love it.
@wilsondtm There's a lot of friction at the start, but it quickly changes. Both are strong women so they try to one-up each other almost as a sign of respect before they become genuine friends.
It's a really fun ride. There is banter, there are one liners, there's everything you'd expect from an Uncharted game. If you liked the previous games, I'm sure you will enjoy this one.
I genuinely felt like I was playing as female Nathan Drake with some of the things Chloe came out with.
@PlaySaviour I'm sure it does, and if you enjoy it then good times. Personally, don't fancy it but might give it a go when it's cheap or if it's on plus.
@Fight_Teza_Fight Thanks. Very nice to know about it. I'm probably already expected those interaction between the two which is a good thing for character development. Chloe always shared some of the traits of Nathan, playful & talkative, while still full on action. But it is Nadine who piqued my interests for this outing though. Nadine, imo, is a mean & focused mercenary in UC4. This is why I'm kind of curious to see how the two bada** characters from previous games blend together here. Maybe this game will change my opinion regarding Nadine after all.
In one word: awesome!
Everything seems perfect; the flow and balance between puzzles, action, firefights and dialogue. And the graphics ... my lord. It's just stunning! The vistas, not to mention water effects and reflections in this game, is just beyond belief. Even the explotions when tossing frags seems better and more powerfull than ever. Checkpoints when failing in firefights is also much more forgiving than say in UC4 where it at times felt just cruel.
I’m 5 hours in at the ending of chaper4 (found all tokens) playing on hard(I think crushing on this one will feel much better than in previous titles). All in all; it feels just fantastic. And the narrative in this one is just exceptionally performed.
@ArkhamKnerd That's a really tough question. I think I'd say play U2, not because I think it's the best, but because U4 doesn't hit as hard without it, and it still has everything that makes the series great.
@wilsondtm I'd honestly give it a shot when you can. I'm pretty confident that as an Uncharted fan this will take you by surprise — even if you think you're not interested in Chloe and Nadine.
They do a /great/ job of turning them into leads.
@get2sammyb I don't doubt Naughty Dog's great works here. They did a wonderful job for UC4 &, no doubt, for this game as well. Simply, I do on the fence on whether to jump in because I'm afraid I might not enjoy it as I did for previous UC games mainly because of my own least interests in the protagonists.
But by the look of the review & responses here, this sound like another game that I've judged way too early perhaps. No doubt I will give this game a shot.
Off topic, the last game that I judged too early was Nier Automata. Bought it on sale couple months ago & since then been always urging myself to go back to play & unfolds everything that the game has to offer. What a great game that is, imo.
I adore the Uncharted franchise, but I have my wallet on lockdown right now because I would like to buy a Switch. But this one will be the first PS4 game I buy, assuming I get my Switch around December.
I'm enjoying the game. Really like the dialogue between Chloe and Nadine.
I've beaten every previous Uncharted game, and am near the end of this one. Overall I think it's pretty dang amazing so far. I don't think they need Nathan Drake to continue the series, and I'm curious to see where Uncharted goes next in regards to both characters and settings. While I think the more open areas of this game (as well as U4) are done well, they are my least favorite parts as they tend to slow down the pace I love and expect from this series. I feel the same way about the most recent Tomb Raider. While I love exploring in other games, I've always liked that exploration has never really been the focus of this franchise. What appeals to me about Uncharted has always been constantly/continuously moving forward. I like the way that I don't need to look for upgrades/anything to make the protagonist grow stronger and can just experience the game like a cool/fun action movie that I'm in control of. In contrast, my favorite aspect of other franchises such as Metroid, Tomb Raider, Dead Space, or even The Last of Us is just the opposite - continuously collecting upgrades and gaining new abilities/weapons/strength. I love seeing franchises evolve, but I hope Uncharted will always stay true to what sets it apart from other games.
Completed it on Hard last night, having taken a little over 14 hours. I love the Uncharted games, so I take my time (except where I can't!) looking around and soaking it all in.
It did seem a little 'off' not having Drake, and I miss his quips and humour, but it's still very much an Uncharted game. As much as I like the character, I'm not sure Chloe would be suitable to front any future 'full' Uncharted games; I'm not sure she has enough about her to carry it. Oh, and I still don't like Nadine... sorry, not sorry.
I'm going back today for a trophy mop-up and Crushing play-through.
What I would like to see in future - either as a smaller spin-off like this or a 'full' game - is an origin story for Sully. That, I think, would really work, and could be a huge hit with the fans.
Im a couple of hours in and im a little bored to be honest, its fairly decent standard however im finding it hard to care too much about whats going on... driving about in the jeep doesnt really do much for me either and simply pads the map out.
Going to keep going with it but as DLC goes its not really bringing anything new to the table so far, other than a new character to play as. The first 2 chapters have been the best so far (I think im chapter 4 now?) but once I got to the jungle its slowed down massively and its put a dampener on proceedings imo .
