Bloody hell, it's a long and winding road to firmware 5.0 isn't it? Sony's released yet another smaller PlayStation 4 software update in the form of version 4.73, which you can download and install right now. Don't get too excited, though -- this one's all about improving that "quality of system performance".
Firmware version 4.73 weighs in at around 341MB, and it's mandatory, meaning that you'll need to grab it if you want to get online with your console.
Update 5.0, meanwhile, will be entering its closed beta phase at some point this month. Its features still haven't been confirmed, although rumours have suggested that it's going to be a big one. We find some of them difficult to believe, however.

My pro has been so slow since the last update hopefully this'll speed things up
yeah this was expected, gotta prepare for the big 5.0 update don't they
@gingerfrog Yeah so has mine, it's never ever done that before
Yeah my standard ps4 xmb is being ridiculously laggy now; and launching the video app takes way longer than it needs to. I really hope this will be addressed in 5.0 as it all used to be silky smooth
@gingerfrog @Rob_230 just a question but do you always put your PS4 into rest mode because if so it might be the cache is full and that may be what's slowing it down and that only clears when you do a hard shut down
try turning it off (power down) completely to clear the cache see if that improves anything (i do this at least once a week and i never have a problem with slowdown)
@FullbringIchigo So what you're saying is 'Have you tried switching it off and back on again'? Do you work in IT?
@Dichotomy ^_^ no but it really is the only way to clear the cache
@FullbringIchigo good tip. I do wonder if there is something to do with caching causing issues. Or perhaps I just have too many games dl on the hdd. I blame Sony having such good PSN sales
I only really use rest mode for charging controllers tbh; rest of the time I power down completely to conserve power etc. Haha though unfortunately with dualshock 4 batteries the ps4 does spend a silly amount of time in rest mode!
Here's hoping it corrects the media player's audio lag bug introduced a while back. That bozo is annoying as hell!
@FullbringIchigo
Thanks I'll give it a go as I only ever use rest mode except for the odd power cut. Hopefully this works
Most likely patching any holes people have found in the leaked sdk.
Damn, since I'll play FFXIV this weekend I'll have to download.
I hate generic updates.
@FullbringIchigo
Cache away...
My PS4 500GB hdd certainly did not have performance quality improved. With 270GB used and 135GB free i am unable to load from disc RE 7 a game that with current patch is around 24GB total.
