Shenmue III got a new trailer and details at Gamescom 2017, which generally divided opinion despite being a work in progress. While the new footage showcased some stunning environmental artwork, it also spotlighted some truly woeful animations. Series creator Yu Suzuki has said that all of this will improve before launch next year – and he also teased that the scale of the game has increased since signing a publishing deal with Deep Silver.
Now, to conclude the title’s German re-reveal, developer Ys Net has released three new screenshots showing protagonist Ryo Hazuki out and about in Guilin. We still reckon this project is moving in the right direction, but an additional year of development doesn’t sound like enough to us. Indeed, don’t expect to be playing this one until 2019.

These are much better than the ones from last week...
@get2sammyb I cant recall a time youve said a game looks crap and then followed it up with "But its a work in progress". You just say its crap.
Still...this game looks a lot better when it isnt in motion. Mostly because the animation or lack thereof isnt present.
It certainly is pretty....in certain areas. Honestly 2018 isnt likely. And seeing Deep Silver fills me with dread.
I wonder if this game will make people cry like an anime fan on prom night...
@BLP_Software Oh my goodness, where's that "anime fan on prom night" line from? I've heard that before.
It's just so strange looking still when it comes to the faces. He looks like he has the body of a 25 year old, with the head/neck of a 12 year old. Just strange. I figure there's an artistic choice to do so, but it's jarring to me, and apparently others. More dev time could fix it, could change nothing. Time will tell I guess.
@BLP_Software It definitely looks better when not in motion, but there is still something so lifeless and almost doll looking to the faces in this game.
@BLP_Software they did confirm that animations were straight up remived for thr trailer that I assume deep silver requested be produced, better to have no faces than andromeda faces
First one in particular looks good. Not totally sold, though.
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi Deep Silver did organise the Mighty No. 9 trailers so....yeah I can see it.
@chaimera086 Maybe the lighting makes it look like plastic? Cant tell.
@get2sammyb Mighty No. 9. Another Deep Silver stepped in wreck. Lets not forget the Metro pre-order only hard modes.
Deep Silver "stepping in" is a horrifying implication.
Still too early to judge but I'm not entirely won over at the moment.
All they gotta do animate those faces...
Weirdly, I actually kinda like it looking so old school. If it suddenly looked and moved like a modern AAA title it look a bit out of place with the rest of the series. Personally I still think those games look great anyway. My biggest concern with the whole game is that they get the fighting engine right. If they nail that then it's gonna be a fun time.
Ryo's face is still hilarious.
@get2sammyb The "anime fan on prom night" line is from a Mighty No. 9 trailer, also from Deep Silver. Because, you know, insulting the people who are supposed to buy your game is a fantastic marketing strategy.
@Ralizah Pretty funny, though.
LOOK UPON MY DEAD EYES MORTALS AND DESPAIR!!!
2017, the year of faces.
Stone cold killa face, I think that's what they're going for.
@chaimera086 - LOL> I never thought of that, but its so damn true, now I cannot un-think it!! Thanks!
@Th3solution Both, I guess?
