Ah, summer. It’s typically about this time that we’d been clearing out our backlogs, but the PlayStation 4 has amassed a software selection that makes such endeavours futile. The coming weeks threaten to be jam-packed with noteworthy new releases, and we’re already hard at work on a handful of them. Here’s what we’re playing this weekend.

I’m playing a couple of games this weekend, which are polar opposites in terms of tone. I can’t say much about Hellblade just yet (check back next week), but I’m genuinely enjoying Tales from the Borderlands, which has managed to transform a series I often find irritating into something I find genuinely comical.

This weekend, I’ll be hiding in numerous bushes waiting for the perfect moment to strike. No, I’ve not started stalking the Push Square editors again, but instead I’ll be playing Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun. This modern take on the real time stealth games of the late 90’s – popularised by the Commandos series – has hooked me, and I’ll be happily spending my spare time slicing and dicing from the shadows, while lost in a thick cloud of nostalgia.

After all the recent talk of various PSone games being remastered I've decided to have a bit of a retro weekend. I'm currently playing through Guardian's Crusade, which is a fun little RPG classic in which you play as a young knight who finds an adorable pink baby monster and sets out to return it to it's mother. Of course it doesn't take long to get wrapped up in a much bigger adventure. I'm also planning to indulge in some Spyro related adventures a little later.
What games are keeping you busy this weekend, then? Have you picked up anything new, or are you working your way through your backlog? Normal service resumes in the comments section below.

Playing Attack on Titan Wings of freedom on ps4 and loving every second of it. They sure did a remarkable job with it. I don't want it to end so bad that I even got the dlc.
Edit: Pre-ordered Hellblade and plan on playing it as soon as I beat A.O.T.
Shooting people with ketchup
not sure i might just mess around on Just Cause 3 as it was free and all
I'm playing through Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun and loving every second. Such a remarkable stealth game. On top of that I'll be continuing Pyre and maybe starting up Ghost Recon Wildlands again. Not played for a couple months but I still have a few districts to finish up.
Nioh for me, plat trophy incoming and then onto the DLC
PS4: TLOU Left Behind, Destiny
PSVita: God Eater 2
Working this weekend, but when I get the time I'm going to finally play TLOU Left behind & start up The Taken King in Destiny.
Just finished playing little nightmare, is the dlc good and is there a list of dlc that will be available for season pass owner? I want to buy the season pass if the dlc is good.
Besides little nightmare I'm still playing blaster master zero for switch.
Edit: I just bought mother russia bleed, man this game is great, it's like modern street of rage
I've finally just got Final Fantasy XII so I'll be setting off from Rabanastre on a grand adventure. The nostalgia is deep with this one, I love it!
This weekend, I have been mostly eating... Vikings: Wolves of Midgard.
Giving Warframe a go, Just Cause 3, Wild Lands demo with a friend and FF12. Eep!
I work today and then I have my niece's bday party tomorrow. So what little time I do have will be finishing up quest or two In Skyrim and doing my simulations dailies in Injustice two still hunting for Cat Call, this is going to be the most annoying platinum ever.
I'm probably going to be playing quite a bit of Injustice 2, while switching between Last of Us and Bastion.
I wish it was my day off so I can finish Persona 5. I'm on the final dungeon, and I'm really itching to play it through, but I want all the time in the world for it.
Trials Evolution
Mario Kart 8
Breath of the Wild
Splatoon 2 and maybe some Injustice 2. Should start Final Fantasy XII since I finished Crash.
Man this week just flew by and by the time I remembered this it was too late.
Anyway probably will be playing some Diablo III this weekend as I got seriously hooked by it agian. Probably some Overwatch as well so I can start getting ready for the Summers games event next week.
Elite Dangerous (still learning how to play this game) and probably will give Warframe a go.
Vita: senran kagura estival versus (I'm half way through the game)
Munch oddesey
Zen pinball
Sega genesis: sega 6 pack
Also i might purchase the lego movie game for vita
I am cleaning out the garage this weekend, so not much gaming time but while I wait for Hellblade, I have been jumping into some chalice dungeons on Bloodborne. Lord help me.
I might also get on Thumper again on PSVR and indulge in some portable 2DS fun.
In between work this weekend I've started up Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin. Nothing quite gives me the same sense of tingling anticipation and excitement like a SoulsBorne game. I've never played DS2 due to all the negative commentary around the game that it lacks the Miyazaki magic but I'm looking forward to playing what should be an excellent game nonetheless. I've also decided to replay the Witcher 3 on Death March difficulty, planning to work my way slowly towards the platinum on this one and take in the greatness of this game all over again. Might play Football Manager 2017 at some point too now that the Football League is back again
Splatfest. #TeamKetchup
Also, just started playing Tumbleseed, since it's on sale. What a strange yet wonderful game!
I'm getting back into Final Fantasy XIV since my friends are playing it again, but outside that I'm working on my platinum trophy for Dragon Ball Xenoverse and continuing my backlog endeavor with Mega Man Zero 2.
Forgot about Splatfest since it is a busy weekend. Will try to squeeze some matches in. Later on today I finally will pick up Nier Automata and Crash Trilogy plus an HDD for my PS4.
Working this weekend, but I'll try to get in on Arms and some Neo Geo games on Switch. Crash Bandicoot Trilogy Tekken 7 and a few other fighting games on PS4.
Enter the Gungeon and Overwatch for me.
I finally decided to get Yakuza 0, so I'll be playing it, starts off kinda slow...but then bam karaoke! What is this game lol, but seems interesting. I'll give it a whirl
Splatoon 2
Have been playing way too much PSVR today and this headache I can't get rid of is my reward.
I'm not one to throw controllers about but that nearly happened yesterday after loading my Lego Harry Potter Collection Years 5-7 save at 48% to find it had corrupted...and had no cloud back up either and I'll be damned if I'm going to play through it all again so no plat for me.
Still,at least it gave me an excuse to finally start The Last Guardian from my backlog which I'm enjoying so far
Also still making my way through the last dungeon of Persona 5 and playing through Stella Glow and Picross 3d Round 2 on my 3ds.
So, I kinda forgot to submit my entry for WAYP. Whoops! I'm planning on carrying on with Crash Bandicoot and Thumper. Also very tempted to grab another game or two in the sale, just to complicate my gaming schedule that little bit more.
My first ever post here! (only recently discovered site). Anyway, this weekend I shall mostly be playing...
Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun
Dirt 4
XCom 2
Pyre
and Diablo 3
Gonna play some Zero Time Dilemma later today. I'm getting towards the end of it, so I'll try to finish it tonight. I have a habit of underestimating how long it takes to complete visual novels and then staying up most of the night getting to the end, so we'll see if that happens to me this time.
I'm travelling tomorrow, so my 3DS will get all of my gaming action this weekend. Might play some Pokemon Sun or Yoshi's Wooly World.
Going for the platinum trophy in Tales from The Borderlands. Hope to complete my first play through of Ratchet & Clank as well.
Still feeling guilty about my decision to drop Persona 5 in favor of SMT IV Apocalypse but at least I should be able to finish that any day now. Of course I know after that I'll be playing Hellblade and after that Sonic Mania! I'm sorry Persona 5, I'm a bad gamer!
Will jump back in FF12 for a bit and alternate with Life is Strange and Wolfenstein TNO. Might pop into a couple of the Splatfest matches at some point as well.
I will probably buy titanfall 2 on the summer sale and try it out on my new projector.
@Nightcrawler71 Welcome! Make sure to get involved in the forums, very friendly place on this site and all opinions respected
I'm going to continue Aloy's journey in Horizon Zero Dawn & trying to pull off the silent assassin suit only in Bangkok for Hitman Season 1.
Bought Titanfall 2 on sale & start the campaign mix with some MP matches. This is the 1st Esport-ish FPS shooter game I bought in a very long time (stop buy Cod after original MW). Need some real adjustment for the fast pace action but so far it is good fun.
@naruball I just picked this up too for about 25 bucks but haven't loaded it yet. I'm glad to hear it is good and was definitely in the mood for some AoT fun after enjoying season 2.
@tabris95 Don't. SMT IV: Apocalypse is a brilliant game.
@sinalefa You look like a Platinum Games fan. I'm surprised you haven't picked up Nier Automata sooner. Either way you are in for a treat man.
@crimsontadpoles How are you liking the Zero Escape series? Have you tried Ever 17 also written by Kotaro Uchikoshi? Have you also heard about his new project he's working on Project Psync?
FF12 here. Having a ball with it and loving the Zodiac/Job system.
@Fooligan Zero Escape is one of my favourite series. I've not heard of Ever 17 or Project Psync before, I might take a look at Ever 17 at some point.
@Fooligan
Why do you say I am a P* fan?
Anyway, thing is games where I live are awfully expensive, so I buy in bulk through @JaxonH, so I had picked up Nier weeks ago but it was until recently that the box was full and it could be sent. I bought Crash since day 1. I have heard great things about it so I am very interested.
Just Cause 3 if the servers will let me.
Games of Thrones, a bit of slow starter but getting more interesting as I progress, just 2 chapters to go for my 2nd Platinum, got love Telltale for that alone. And some VR Eagle Filght, Rush of Blood and if I feel social some Star Trek
Fortnite, Overwatch, and work.
I work weekends now.
Hurray.
I tried Just Cause 3 but it doesn't seem to be working...just stuck on "18% installed".
So, decided to restart FFXV, after a few months away from it. It's gotten quite a bit better! Enjoying it more than before - bumbling around the moogle chocobo festival was fun.
Also making a start with Pyre.
I'm still half way trought danganronpa 2, so i guess i will be trying to finish it and playing legend of heroes trails of cold steel in the middle 😆 people said it was good and i bought them for the vita in the last sale
Horizon 7 hours in and I'm hooked except I've got a huge design project deadline over weekend to do as well! All work and play in this modern life! Grinding away on clash of clans as well😄
@Hego I've been playing sotfs myself and finding it much more enjoyable the second time around. The uglier sections are genuinely ugly, but there are some areas that are genuinely stunning to look at. There were a lot of ideas added to ds2 which worked very well, and it's easy to see how they transferred to later games. It does have it's flaws but it's still an excellent game, if not the best souls game.
5th playthrough of Bloodborne. I have so many other things to finish, and yet I'm back in Yharnam.
Im replaying Horizon Zero Dawn on Ultra Hard difficulty to get those 2 new trophies. I forgot just how good this game is!
Just Cause 3 was fun for about half an hour.. so probably Splatoon and Overwatch. Have the urge to replay so many games but probably just hold out for Hellblade (assuming it's good).
@sinalefa Sorry I'm writing back late as hell. I forgot we were working out in the country longer than usual today. I'm also a bit of a Platinum Games fan. Your pic of Alice from The Wonderful 101 gave you away 😁.
That's a nice collection you've got, it's got mine beat. I like the Bayonetta amiibo on both sides. Do you have Okami and Viewtiful Joe as well? I know they aren't P* games, but they are still Kamiya games.
I didn't know you knew JaxonH that well. That's nice, he's a good guy. I haven't seen him around that much lately though.
@Fooligan
I have Devil May Cry (the PS3 Collection), Okami (both Wii and HD digital version) and Viewtiful Joe 2. Still need to hunt down VJ1.
I got in contact with Jaxon directly when he invited me to an amiibo hunting chat back in their starting days. I have to thank him for a lot of games, amiibo, my PS4, NES Mini and more recently my Switch. He is very honest and a great friend indeed.
I purchased Doom after the recent trial thingy for £11.99. Bargain. I almost bought it full price a number of times but am happy i waited. Cut price mayhem is always welcome. Might be fighting my lady friend on tekken 7 this weekend too.
@toon_lonk1 We PSTV users are like rare Pokemon these days.
This weekend, more kabooms with Doom and a pinch of Valkyria Chronicles Remastered.
Trails of cold steel 2 on the ps vita. Clock up 57 hours so far on this game.
@sinalefa
Nice collection. Seeing MadWorld brings back memories, would love to get a sequel. Anyway, enjoy NieR: Automata, one of the best games of the year.
Elite Dangerous for me...love this game!
@Dru196 Telltale games are an easy gateway to platinumsville, but in the process I feel like I have sold my gaming soul. I am currently on Episode 3 of GOT and I gotta say I have no more love to give to these episodic borefest.
Me and daughter will be donning our respective superhero/villain costumes and commence battle on Injustice. Once I have been defeated for the 20th time, we may have join forces and play a few games of Co-op on Shovel Knight. Ah, good times.
@THRILLHOU Ya that's what I've heard essentially, that's it's a very good game, just not a good Souls game apparently the DLC is excellent, I'll keep an eye out for your summon sign along the way 😜
Playing Just Cause 3 and it is a buggy so far. Absolutely terrible - a 3/10 game at best. Trying to climb a mountain to blow up a bridge. No idea how to get up there as the grappling hook doesn't seem to work. Everytime I want to use the options menu it tries to log in to servers it cannot find. Ridiculously poor. How three of these good made or even bought is beyond me.
Holiday in greece. Great food
I tried Nioh hoping for some fun hack and slash but found myself quite challenged... Nioh is Nioh joke...
@Gamer83
Thanks. Whenever Splatoon 2 lets me I will try Nier. Madworld is very original, that Anarchy Reigns is still mint. From what I have heard, set in the same universe but not exactly a sequel.
I work weekends so not really much gaming for me! However today I've given Fallout 4 a break for Fifa career mode on my PS4 and on my tablet Mount and Blade Warband when I can fit it in!
