While we’ll need to wait for Yakuza 6: The Song of Life before we can officially deem Kazuma Kiryu’s story done and dusted, Japan already knows what becomes of the Dragon of Dojima. It brings an interesting challenge for Yakuza Studio, as the series is a consistent performer in Japan and is more popular than ever in the West, so it surely can’t stop anytime soon.
One option is to remake the original instalments, of course, and it’s already revealed Yakuza: Kiwami 2. But SEGA’s also getting ready for post-Kiryu life with something it’s calling the ‘New Yakuza Series’ – a set of stories scheduled to take place after Yakuza 6. And the first entry will be Yakuza Online, a new free-to-play title for PC and smartphones.
While we’re not expecting this to launch anytime soon in the West, it will introduce a new character named Ichiban Kasuga, an orphan with a criminal record and ties to the Tojo Clan. In classic Yakuza franchise fashion, his story will pick up after serving a 17 year sentence for a crime that he didn’t commit. Expect the wild-haired hero (?) to feature in future instalments.

Certainly looks like more of a b*stard than Kaz.
Have sega just put all their chips on Yakuza now?
@kustomflex Sonic Mania launched last week. 😂
Keep doing Kiryu forever, thanks!
That's exactly how my hair looks most days. Don't be jealous guys. 😏
@kustomflex Sega also own Atlus, so Persona 5 and the recently announced dancing spin-off games will be released by Sega, too. On the PC side of things, they have the Total War series and Football Manager, as well, off the top of my head. They do seem pretty invested in Yakuza, though.
@get2sammyb i have it. Damn blue spheres!!
