Volition, the developer behind Agents of Mayhem but best known for the Saints Row series, has been struck by a round of layoffs. News comes courtesy of Kotaku sources, though owner Deep Silver has yet to comment on the situation. Reports suggest that more than 30 people have been made redundant, from a team that was previously around 200 employees large.
While it’s not uncommon for there to be layoffs at major developers upon the completion of large-scale projects, sources suggest that Deep Silver was unhappy with the shooter’s sales. While we don’t have access to hard data, we do know that the title struggled on the UK sales charts – and was nowhere to be seen in the latest NPD report for the United States.
We’d just like to take a moment to wish all of those affected the very best.

Agents of Mayhem was a deeply confused game that the publisher seemingly had no idea how to market, but for all that I enjoyed my time with it. Here's hoping Volition have better luck with their next project.
Removing the character customization was a mistake, it was one of the main things that made Saints Row for me.
Feel terrible for those laid off. Those guys are talented but I would agree that as a consumer, I wasn't sure at all what the game was. I would lay some of that at the door of the publisher.
Just a terrible advert campaing that did the game more damage then good. Crying like anime fan on promnight yeah kinda like that.
I hope they land jobs in a better company soon.
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi Even less people like him now I'd say.
Feel bad for those effected. I do think Volition is a pretty decent studio that delivered in an awesome game in Saints Row 2. Unfortunately they went a little crazy with the sequels (4 especially) and 'confused,' credit to @Donald_M ,seems to be an apt description for Agents of Mayhem. Hopefully better times ahead for Volition and those who were laid off.
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi I really dont know why they think anyone likes him he is so boring.
lol this game is so trash..
Not surprised one bit. The second I found out about that game I jumped out the window. Loved the first two Saints Row games only, after The Third I was done with the series.
I follow gaming news pretty closely; visit multiple gaming sites a day watch all the conferences...I don't recall ever hearing of this game. So it was either not marketed well or instantly forgettable.
I wish them the best in finding new work, that must suck.
Though on the upside, hopefully this means the game will see a deep price drop by Black Friday?
