Remember Nightmare Creatures on the PSone? Kind of? Not really? Well it's making a comeback on PlayStation 4, developer Albino Moose Games has revealed at PAX West. You can catch the teaser trailer above, complete with questionable voice acting.
To be honest, we don't remember much about Nightmare Creatures. The series spawned two titles on Sony's original console, which were kind of action adventure games with horror elements and creepy monsters. It'll be interesting to see how the property is revived.

How could i not you have no idea how much i love this game use to play it as a kid all the time.
Which one are they bringing back The Asylum one with the tiger or in the city with the cultists.
ohh i just watched the trailer let it rest PLS let it rest don't reboot it.
Wow, was jokingly saying they should make more of these games recently. The originals were creepy as hell. This is good news!
Didant even realise there were two Nightmare Creatures but I LOVED the first one back in the day!...not so sure about this new reboot though..
I have a feeling it'll be something of a Bloodborne knock off lol.. (or is Bloodborne the Nightmare Creatures knock off??)
It was one of the first games I played on the demo cd included with the PSX I bought. Twenty years ... Christ.
I loved it back then, although it was a monotonous game when I think about it. The monsters had unlimited health, especially in hard mode.
This looks really indie-ish. Curious to see how it will end up.
@kyleforrester87 Bloodborne is the Darkstalkers to Dark Souls' Street Fighter.
Oh, and the narrator in the reboot sounds like butt. Here's how it was done right.

I loved Nightmare Creatures as a kid, so i'm going to keep my eye on this one
I swear the first game taught me more about Samuel Pepy's diary than primary school did!
My mum and I used to play this when I was little. Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, Dino Crisis, Fear Effect, Shadowman, and Nightmare Creatures were the games I grew up on!
(My mum was, and still is, cooler than me :/).
My ageing memory vaguely remembers loving this game. I think. If this remake is anything like the Souls series then it can do one.
I remember playing it, but I don't like it back then. I do remember really liking soul reaver though, I hope se remake it for ps4.
It has not been twenty years since this game
NO WAY! I was seriously just thinking about Nightmare Creatures the other day when I was thinking about old PSOne franchises they could bring back.
I played the the original!!
I don't remember if I actually had this or not. It does look vaguely familiar after watching a 'youtube' video to see if that helped (Weren't draw distances terrible for this back then...

It wasn't a game that I had a lasting memory of. I may have played a demo or something, but whether I played it that much or not, I can't remember - that's not unusual though considering how many games I played back then. Getting Rare Replay also showed how much I had forgotten in the games I thought I knew very well. I think I have forgotten more games than I can remember. I was discussing the Vic 20-C64-Amiga era and having to watch 'video's' of games that people remembered fondly to try and jog my memory of playing them. Even games I remember playing a lot, remember a few details of what the game-play was - but cannot remember the name - the joys of getting old!!! LOL
I remember renting this game during a sleep over at a friend's house. We played it and for some reason all I remember of it is thinking that it just felt like a Resident Evil clone sent in Victorian London.
A lot of PSOne era games being revived. I like it!
Well, Caddicarus is going to be happy!
Tomba! You should be next -_-
I played the first one on N64, found it modestly entertaining to my taste. Tried the sequel later but wasn't hooked. If there's another sequel in the works, I'll look into it; a remake? Probably not.
P.S. On second thought, perhaps I will regardless. I naturally emulated the first game way back when, so an opportunity to honour its dues and claim a copy legally is quite a factor, too.
I used to play this, Fifth Element and Die by the sword all the time on the PC back in the 90's - If I remember correctly, you can chop off all the monsters body parts in this game + it was really hard - kinda the original Souls game!
I remember having the first game and not really liking it, surprised it's coming back
Please Sony give us a new Dark Cloud or even better Legend of Dragoon ill take a a remaster to.
Yeah sure I remember it from the N64. Clunky game, like a lot of 3D actioners before Devil May Cry, but conceptually it was awesome. And I also recall its name being tossed around a lot when Bloodborne came out - in a lot of ways, that type of violent dark action game WAS the prototype for that of game.
Frankly I miss 'em all. Primal, Shadow Man, Legacy of Kain (and we know Eidos/Square West killed the super promising Dead Son in favor of that stupid Nosgoth multiplayer shooter), even Akuji the Heartless I miss darkness, horror and mature themes in my action games! Why is Bloodborne the only option out there still? I'm down for Nightmare Creatures to make a comeback.
Seems downright appropriate, what with Fear Effect coming back, Shenmue 3 is coming, and even Rune: Viking Warlord getting a sequel. We live in that age where the new stuff isn't satisfying people and oldsters can make comebacks. That's great! Just be good, new Nightmare Creatures (crossing my fingers)
I bought this back in the day. It got tuff at one point and I moved on. Ahhh,......to be 16 again.
Oh sh**!!! This is awesome news! The original was rough but theres tons of potential for thisto be a really cool reboot!
I remember this being bloody hard..!
@naruball Tomba! was one of my favorite games. Sooo good.
I called this! Told my friend a year or so ago I could see this happening. First level or two was great on PS1 but it devolved quickly. Jumping and hit detection were horrible. But it had great atmosphere and was ahead of its time in many ways. Let's hope they get it right this time!
All of us old fogeys remember this it seems but it wasnt very good. Never owned it just rented a few times for sleep overs. Glad parents back then had no clue about the amount of violence in video games.
I played it, it was quite good fun. I did much prefer Deathtrap Dungeon though, personally. This was 1997, DD was 1998 but I don't recall DD being on a demo disc so perhaps less people remember it.
Nightmare Creatures was if I remember rightly on the Demo 1 disc you got with your PSOne, I remember playing a level of it as the guy with short hair and he had a staff. I hope its like the originals to be honest more franchises back from PSOne need to be revived. I wish we had just as many developers like we did back then Ocean, Pyignosis (owl icon), and Acclaim is coming back.
This one was horrible. I would rather have a sequel to the Order than a revival of this.
Oh baby enjoyed the hell outta these!! Atmosphere was cool! Had part II on Dreamcast! Bring em both on! Nice! 👍👍
@Hapuc I remember I really enjoyed playing it, but I fully agree, the remaster (?) does not look promising.. let it rest..
