Wowza, August was one stacked month for PlayStation gaming. We reviewed more games last month than any other month in 2017 so far, and there were actually so many quality releases that our nominees list for Game of the Month was the biggest we've ever had. Okay, so some titles didn't exactly prove to be popular among our team of writers (cough, Lawbreakers, Agents of Mayhem, cough) but it was still a reasonably close staff vote up at the top of the pile, where it matters. Without further ado, let's take a look at what we think are the best four PlayStation games of August 2017.
Bronze Trophy: Pillars of Eternity: Complete Edition
if you like your role-playing hardcore and your battles tactical, then you'll probably love Pillars of Eternity: Complete Edition. Arriving on PS4 after years of success on PC, this Obsidian developed adventure is widely praised for good reason. "What Obsidian has crafted here, is not merely an exercise in tickling the nostalgia itch of those pining for another Planescape: Torment or Baldur's Gate, but a contemporary to those classics, and one that will surely be held in as high regard in the years to come," wrote an enamoured John Cal McCormick in our 8/10 review.

Silver Trophy: Sonic Mania
Want classic Sonic, do you? None of this strange 3D nonsense? Then you can't possibly go wrong with Sonic Mania - a real return to form for the blue blur. Reviewer Stephen Tailby was left thoroughly impressed by the retro revisit, saying it "stands proudly alongside its ancestors as a great 2D platformer". "If you’ve never enjoyed Sonic games, this certainly won’t change your mind, but anyone with an affinity for the Blue Blur’s seminal Mega Drive series can rest assured that this is more than worth your time," he concluded, slapping an 8/10 on there.

Gold Trophy: Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice
Well received by both critics and gamers alike, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice is a PS4 console exclusive that tackles some heavy themes -- and looks stunning to boot. "It’s the way that the title utilises the unique attributes of the medium to raise awareness of mental health that elevate this release beyond the sum of its parts," wrote Overlord Barker in our 8/10 review. Another rock solid project from Ninja Theory, then.

Platinum Trophy: Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
Naughty Dog's only gone and done it again, those talented buggers. A standalone Uncharted title that doesn't feature series protagonist Nathan Drake, The Lost Legacy has often been described as a greatest hits compilation by Sammy.
"If there was ever any doubt of the talent at Naughty Dog, consider that Uncharted: The Lost Legacy was built in less than a year," he wrote. "This sensational spin-off not only beds in two of the franchise’s more mysterious characters, but it also gloriously repurposes several of the series’ best moments," Sammy concluded in our glowing 9/10 review. A worthy Game of the Month winner.

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy... Like I would have voted for anything else!!!
Really good month.
Sonic Mania, easily. The blue blur's best game in years versus the usual AAA fare.
Sonic mania. Just not on PS4.
I got straddled with the buggier, frame dropping (But only ever in one stage), yet higher reviewed version.
Because that makes sense
Lost legacy and sonic mania in second place, hellblade in third. It's a good month
UC Lost Legacy for me, as I whizzed through that over a weekend and couldn't put it down. Loved it, and my favourite UC I think.
I thought Hellblade was an interesting game, as stated elsewhere, not sure how much I actually enjoyed it though. Still deserves to be on a top 5 though.
I have played a bit of Sonic Mania and think it is a great game, even if I am not a huge nostalfic Sonic fan. I also suck at it.
No Undertale though? There goes PS's indie creds.
From here to December, its going to be 'interesting' to see who PushSquare pick for their top 4. I know October (for me) is a very busy month but August and September are 'relatively' quiet. I could have bought more games in both of these months but October and November are limiting my gaming purchases.
Maybe in the new year I may have the time and funds to pick up the few games I am having to let pass...
Sudden Strike 4 for me.
Great month!
1. Uncharted The Lost Legacy
2. Yakuza Kiwami
3. HellBlade: Senua's Sacrifice
Seems like HellBlade sold pretty well. Hope they do decide to bring out a physical copy. Missing that one trophy pretty much everyone missed first time around for the platinum.
Pillars for me
Then sonic
@Rudy_Manchego Undertale was beaten by a single vote. So close!
1. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
2. Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice
3. Yakuza Kiwami
@Rudy_Manchego For the record, I included Undertale in my votes
Great month with tons of amazing games. I'm giving my vote to Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, such an incredible experience and for such a low price (got it for 23 pounds).
I have only played Uncharted but very interested in Hellblade.
@BLP_Software Good job Sonic Team.
(Wait? It ain't Sonic team?! Well cus it buggy GG Sonic Team)
Bought Hellblade, but I'm tempted to buy better a better headset to play it properly. Currently I have the PlayStation Gold Wireless Headset, which isn't bad, but I believe it doesn't do the game justice.
Any recommendations?
Everybody's Golf fore me but I haven't played any of the above. I plan on picking Pillars up next.
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy easily takes the top spot. I'd have Yakuza Kiwami second.
It was a great month, and to think most of the games talked here are games with budget prices.
@Quintumply @ShogunRok To be honest, if it had got onto the top list then people would just have been complaining about how they liked it before it was popular on Pushsquare.
If I am honest, I am still on the fence about Undertale - I have been playing on the Vita and combat bullet hell sections just kicked my backside. Loved the story and originality though...
@Rudy_Manchego Keep at it. The battles can get pretty tricky but it's worth seeing Undertale through to the end.
@Quintumply I voted for it as well! I think it was my number 1 pick actually.
@Rudy_Manchego Agreed. Worth sticking it out! It's worth it in the end!
Is there where I complain that I liked that game before it was popular though? Cuz I'd like to do that. Even though I played it because of how much hype it had gotten on Steam. Still waiting on Fangamer copy to play it on PS4 though
Warriors All Stars for me. Really fun game, despite its flaws, for me.
I would've voted Sonic Mania, but I have it on my Switch.
For me, it's Lost Legacy. It was what I wanted from Uncharted after U4 fell a bit. Sonic Mania was good, but was too samey, and I'm still playing Yakuza Kiwami.
Uncharted TLL also gets my vote for top game (just finished it today). Honourable mentions go to Everybody's Golf, F1 2017 and Shadow Tactics.
@Derpie1 Sonic Team was development assistance. And the Switch port was outsourced from the dev team.
So yeah. The highest rated version is the buggiest. Work that out.
Must be the first month that I haven't played any of the top games xD
Btw: I'm an HUGE uncharted fan (it's just that I'm on vacation and I need some more money)! Also I really really really wanna try Hellblade!
@BLP_Software Ik but I don't think they had a big involvement
@naruball
My suggestion. Go for a HyperX Cloud 2.
My PlayStation Gold headset kept un-syncing.
Got the HyperX and never looked back.
Can use it for any product that asks for a mini plug... (Roku, iPod, iPad, etc.)
Plus, I can use it on my PC.
Best headset I've ever owned!
Oh, and best games...Lost Legacy, Everybodie's Golf, and UnderTale.
I really loved Hellblade and Yakuza Kiwami. If I can figure out the elephant shadow puzzle I will like Uncharted again too. Still Hellblade was something. Makes me wish I had proper headphones for the full binaural experience.
@gbanas92 this is certainly the place to do that although really, you need to have said you don't like it as much now because it is popular and move on to the next indie gem!
I will defo finish the game because I want to get to the story end, I just made a poor choice with playing on the Vita I think.
1.Uncharted
2.Mario and Rabbids
3. Yakuza
@Rudy_Manchego Ah crap! I messed up! I mean I guess the game is fine now...it was better when fewer people knew what it was.
Yeah it's cool that it came to Vita, but I definitely wanna play it on PS4 instead.
