In a statement that surely no one saw coming, Gearbox has said that it won't be providing any more support for Battleborn going forward. In an official forum post, creative director Randy Varnell wrote "as of this week, there will be no more Battleplans and there is currently no planned content after the Fall Update. Details of any future changes or news will be made on our forums or through social media, so keep your radars on."
Battleborn launched for PlayStation 4 back in the summer of 2016. It received reasonably positive reviews, but almost instantly, it failed to capture a sizeable audience. Supposedly, things didn't get much better following the announcement of a free trial earlier this year. It's safe to assume that Gearbox is now going full steam ahead with Borderlands 3, which is quite clearly in the works.
Dare we ask if you're a fan of Battleborn? Await the inevitable server shutdown notice in the comments section below.

Couldn't they have at least offered it for free on ps+ to see if that helps? Seems pretty stupid to me not to.
(maybe I'm missing something)
@naruball maybe they just want the bad taste of a failed game out of their mouths once and for all.
Well I saw a video, I think it was on IGN, where the head of Gearbox blamed Aliens Colonial Marines on gamers having too high expectations so this is probably our fault too.
Okay I'm going to be serious here: How long do you think they held off to not make it seem like a total failure?
RIP in peace
@Rudy_Manchego And I bet they think that the gameplay trailer of ACM (which was not in the finished game) had no part in raising those expections.
Atleast they supported their game more than Capcom with Umbrella Corps. Seriously, that game got 2 patches, and then silence.
Great game that had bad business decision after bad business decision. I'm glad they kept it up this long. I only hope they patch the challenges to work offline.
Couldn't care less, really. Gearbox can suck my Colonial Marine.
The Knack of MOBAs.
@adf86 Boy, it's like you've seen the video! How did you know?
"The Battle's Lost" That's all you got? Boo
Mr. Ramsey, shame. How could you not go with "More like Battle-death" for your header tagline?
At any rate, like others, I don't really care. I AM quite interested to see what Gearbox does going forward - there's no way 100% of their studio is dedicated solely to Borderlands 3. Their brand is incredibly toxic these days though, with a lot of disappointments and failures to their name by now. Aliens: "We Killed TimeGate Studios, Obsidian's Aliens game AND wasted Sega's Money for this" Colonial Marines, Duke Nukem Overpriced Anniversary Edition, Bulletstorm: Also Overpriced Edition, Homeworld and Shipbreakers (what are they doing with an RTS franchise, really?), they did that effup with G2A ... not to mention they killed Brothers in Arms Furious Four to turn it into Battleborn of course. They're making NO new fans, and I seriously wonder if even Borderlands goodwill can turn that ship around. And if that's really all they got going on, that speaks a lot about their relationship with publishers atm too. Methinks they need an executive reshuffling...
This gen could (continue to) be real rough for 'em
Three bullets to the head from Overwatch...
@TruthfulVoice I was so disheartened that I couldn't come up with anything better...
The servers will still be active but just no new content.
It's no surprise really though Battleborn just didn't have a chance from the start.
This comes as absolutely no surprise. I loved the game but unfortunately nothing could stop the inevitable Battleborn vs Overwatch comparisons, despite being very different games under the surface. I really enjoyed it at launch but without the population to really support it, it was never going to be a longterm contender.
At this point, after 3 failures (Colonial Marines, Duke Nukem and this), are Gearbox anything more than just the Borderlands series?
@Octane Dude did you just say that knack is wack? Knack is not wack. Knack is far from wack!
Nah I'm kidding. Good joke.
Goes to show the only thing Gearbox can make that is successful is Borderlands.
Thing is, the Borderland games are starting to become redundant.
Fair play to Gearbox they did what they could but ultimately they couldn't keep flogging that dead horse.
