The first Tomb Raider movie trailer is finally out, and – y’know what, it actually doesn’t look that bad. Like, don’t get us wrong, there are a few shots where the sets look really artificial and cheap – but it seems fine for a B-movie thing. It looks like the plot is modelled after the 2013 video game reboot, as protagonist Lara Croft (played by Alicia Vikander) follows in her father’s footsteps, and goes in pursuit of some kind of hidden treasure. Naturally, she gets shipwrecked along the way.
The film’s due in theatres on 16th March, so this won’t be the last we see of the flick before launch. We wouldn’t be surprised if the rumoured Shadow of the Tomb Raider was revealed at some point over the next six or so months, too – brand synergy and all that.
What do you think of the trailer? Do you reckon Vikander fits the part? At least she actually sounds English, right?

Ehhhh, I agree, it's not terrible but it's nothing amazing either. Highlight is Nick Frost at the end.
It looks fine - Vikander seems to nail the part, certainly. But if anything it looks a little too close to the game. I'm just not especially excited about watching the storyline of the game shortened to a couple of hours with a bunch of green screen action shots. Same reason I don't watch much Twitch I guess - I'd rather play the game than watch someone else doing it.
yeah it looks OK but lets remember so dis the Resident Evil and Assassin's Creed trailers
NEVER judge a film by it's trailer
@FullbringIchigo I don't mind those Resident Evil films.
Who knew a low budget film based on a reboot of a video game wouldn't be brilliant? I'll pass.
It looks ok but this is a bad trailer. Editing and tone is all over the place. I think the key problem is that they haven't decided on a tone. Is Lara a badass before she gets to the island (as the last shot seems to suggest) or is she someone who is forced to become a bad ass over the course of the movie? I feel they have taken the plot of the first film pretty much and a few bits from the rebooted games. Still, I like the character so will no doubt give this a watch.
@get2sammyb oh they are enjoyable but they are nothing like what the trailers make you believe they are, just like most trailers
lets everyone be honest here, how many trailers have you seen that didn't represent the film at all?
Some old tomb threatens humanity, come on, what with dust mites? Looks fine.
On the plus side, it looks like we're getting a movie adaptation of a game that's actually being faithful to the story of the source material.
On the down side, the story of the source material is absolute poppycock.
Holy crud they remade the remake into a movie. I mean sure they added in some back story about the dad, but that's the game I played. Really surprised, I thought they'd do something new.
I'll say this though, looks a whole lot more like a Tomb Raider game than the Jolie movies did. I mean I enjoyed them at the time for what they were, but what they were was James Bond meets Indiana Jones, this is Tomb Raider. Well done.
Hey @Captain_Gonru you see this? I kept waiting for them to say she'd spent the last 10 years in Cunlun and she was now up against the Hand.
@get2sammyb What resident evil films? Please don't disappoint me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also, this movie needs more...BEWBS!
The outfit she uses looks just like the reboot, the pickaxe, some of the scenes...looks cool enough!
Meh. We all know it's not gonna be good.
I haven't gone to the movies in ages and this trailer did nothing to change that trend.
Nick Frost made the trailer for me.
@ShogunRok Yep it does not make wanna go to the movies thats for sure.
@WandaOscar You're a wizard, Wanda.
It looks like a good stay in cause the weather is bad type of movie. Will probably wait till I can rent it for 99c or something from the psn store
kinda meh to be honest. Ancient tomb that will threaten humanity & protagonist is the only hope to stop the bad guy...
Very Hollywood-ish indeed
looks good to me. I'll watch it. Nick Frost is a happy sight also, I like that guy.
Hmmm...gotta say I'm less excited now than I was when you showed the teaser but ah well,I'll still definitely watch it.
I’ll be passing on this one. I think Lara should have been cast with an actress a few years older personally.
Vikander can act and does look the part but I just don't think she can portray Lara as a believeable character that we relate to from the games. I'd much prefer to see a fully CGI Tomb Raider movie with an excellent script and voiceovers that is faithful to the games.
Always nice to see Nick Frost make a cameo in a movie but if he's going to be the highlight of the film then clearly something's wrong with said film.
@Fullbringlchigo A lot of trailers these days just show the best bits of the movie and then when you actually go and see it, sometimes for the full duration of the movie it's just a lot of chin-wagging, you feel let down due to high expectations. The whole point of trailers is to draw an audience in and make them want to see the full movie just because they saw a good few minutes of the film then suddenly they have high expectations.
I think this looks fun , sometimes these kinda films are made that are so daft that they're good. Of the top of my head John Wick springs to mind.
Mmm to me it looks dreadful.
I am just sorry for Alicia Vikanders who established herself as a legit actress in cool stuff like Ex-machina and the Danish Girl...hope this doesn't affect her the way it affected A.Jolie.
