This scribe just tried to sign into the PlayStation Network, only to find the service unavailable. Many Virgin Media users have reported having trouble accessing the network today, with the official PSN server status website saying that: "PlayStation Network services are up and running in your area, but several reports suggest that your local Internet is having problems that might affect your ability to sign in. Contact your Internet service provider for more information."
The Ask PlayStation UK Twitter account has tweeted that the problem is being investigated.
Are you suffering with the sign-in issue? Vent your frustration in the comments below.
Update: Everything appears to be back online and running again. For now, at least.

This happened with Talk Talk a few months ago. To be fair, it was resolved very quickly. Annoying, though.
RIIIICHAAAAAAAAAAAAAARD!!!!!!
@kyleforrester87 My missus works for Virgin Media and she says she sometimes gets calls from people blaming Richard Branson for their miss fortunes but a lot of people don't realise that he hasn't got anything to do with VM other than having a 15% stake in the company and allowing them to use the Virgin brand name.
I still wouldn't use any other internet provider, VM offer the best service, speed and reliability imo.
I am with VM. The irony is that I have the very same Fibre Optic that was promoted with Destiny!
I havent been able to get on for hours now and its my only chance to game.
Could msg friends on the ps4 earlier now diddly squat.
Literally since 10:30am grrrr.
@MaccaMUFC tbf after my short rant above I decided to look at the other articles.
Then...
Virgin broadband was one of the banner adverts with Richard Branson in the bloomin advert with his hands in the air. Grrrr.
Someone on Twitter came up with a workaround solution. Go to network settings then select set up Internet connection. Then choose wifi or Lan then select custom, follow the steps as you would normally till you get to DNS settings. Select manual then input as primary DNS 8.8.8.8 then secondary DNS put 8.8.4.4 this is Google's servers I believe and it has got me back online.
Talk Talk had some troubles in East Anglia last week, it's incredibly annoying when it happens.
@adf86 thank you very much works for me
@adf86 that's a bit sketchy lol

@gruf69 stfu
@adf86 just did what you said and got online straight away ππ
@Weedamo112 No idea, just what some guy on Twitter said and it seemed to work for a few, if you aren't sure then probably best wait. My nephew is on Virgin too and he got on without issue so it might be sorted.
@adf86 you, sir, are a star. That worked like a charm. Thank you.
@adf86 cheers it works lol
@gruf69 in the six years I've been with them this is the first issue I've had. I also used to work for this "crappy" service, and their broadband is excellent. So I'd love to know which God tier provider you're using.
Can we calm down in this thread, please. Obviously this is extremely annoying, but we don't just swear and shout on this website unlike other ones.
Cheers!
@Johnnycide @Weedamo112 @Shane2808 @Subhan2017 Glad to hear it's working for you guys, was just passing on the message. If you want to switch back to Virgin Media settings later on repeat the steps mentioned but at DNS settings input 194.168.4.100 and 194.168.8.100 respectively.
I had 2 occasions with Virgin where any interaction with Sony was blocked. PSN on my PS4, the Playstation Store via my PS4 or laptop, I couldnt sync trophies, no matter what i tried on PS4 or on the internet at home I could not connect to Sony services.
Turns out, one of the security companies Sony uses had randomly blacklisted the IP address I was using. This IP address was randomly allocated to me by Virgin as they change your IP address periodically.
I knew my PSN account was not blocked because I could log in from my PC at work.
It was super frustrating because Sony couldn't do anything and Virgin wouldn't change my IP address, it was knackered for 3 weeks and then fixed itself when Virgin randomly changed my IP again.
I was playing most of yesterday with no problems.
I gave my machine a static ip address and allowed the following ports in the superhub.
I have one dns 192.168.0.1 - the routers address. I did used to have the virgin ones.
dns: 194.168.4.100. 194.168.8.100.
Here are the settings I allowed for the ps4 static ip
Advanced settings > Security > port forwarding.
You have to give each 'rule' a name. I just names them ps4-1, ps4-2 etc.
Tcp
80
443
1935
3478
3479
3480
UDP
3478
3479
Try changing MTU from 1500 to 147
