For the first time in Assassin’s Creed history, upcoming Egyptian instalment Origins will let you change the difficulty. In an interview with Assassin’s Central, game director Ashraf Ismail explained why: “Some people play for the historic context, some people for the narrative, some for the gameplay, and what we felt was by going deeper into the gameplay challenge of the game we’re feeding one part of the audience but not others, so it was a natural step for us.”
You’ll be able to toggle between Easy, Normal, and Hard difficulty dynamically – the developer doesn’t want you to hit a brick wall during a boss fight or anything like that. But don’t expect Easy to turn off combat entirely: “You’ll still will have to [deal with] whatever you run into,” Ashraf added. “It’s much easier to handle and the reverse is true for Hard.”
Of course, the interesting thing is that, starting next year, you will be able to turn off Assassin’s Creed Origins’ combat entirely thanks to the educational Discovery mode. This DLC will be released at no extra cost in 2018, and will let you freely explore the open world in order to learn more about Ancient Egypt. This setting will completely strip out combat encounters and quests, instead allowing you to soak up the atmosphere and absorb information about landmarks and day-to-day activities.

Easy for the first play through. Then normal then hard xd
If you buy a game with your hard-earned cash you should be allowed to enjoy it however you like, so I think difficulty settings should always be appreciated.
Within reason, obviously. Some games use their difficulty as a selling point and that's fine too.
I think this is cool - as long as normal is the difficulty the developer would set as their standard for the experience.
Some players make too much of difficulty but I think the more inclusive the better. I also don't have a problem with easier difficulties turning off trophies etc. since that is more about playing the game for longer and getting better at its mechanics. I think Hyper Light Drifter did that. I played at standard difficulty but I know some people who have gone easier because they liked the game but didn't want to invest the time.
I heard you had to do side missions in this game to level up so you could do the main missions. I might just put it on easy then because I'm so sick of AC side missions. When I played Unity I completely mainlined it and had a good time. The trick is to ignore the vomit of side missions on the map.
While not a huge feature it's a nice option nevertheless.
I always play on normal first and if there's a trophy for the hardest difficulty in an obtainable platinum then I'll ramp it up next playthrough to get it.
@Wesker Spot on. Except, I do hope the side missions will be more worthwhile this time around. But my first meeting with AC was Black Flag, and it was great, in large part because all the extra "content" seemed too opaque to bother with so I just focused on the story (and sinking some ships).
@munkholt I think AC Black Flag is clearly the 2nd best AC after Two.
@ShogunRok Agreed all games should allow you to play as you like
