With the announcement of Spelunky 2 and Guacamelee! 2 during its Paris Games Week 2017 pre-show earlier today, Sony seemed to be making a statement: we’re still very much about big indie games. And honestly, Guacamelee! was such a huge hit (initially on PlayStation and then later on other platforms) that a sequel makes total sense.
The big addition this time appears to be co-op multiplayer, though developer Drinkbox Studios is also promising “new levels, enemies, bosses, gameplay mechanics, and more”. According to the press release, the story picks up seven years after the events of the first game, with protagonist Juan Aguacate living a happy life with his family. Sadly, that’s all short-lived when “his friend and trainer Uay Chivo discovers a new evil menace that threatens to destroy not only Mexico, but time and space itself”. Don’t you just hate it when that happens?
The game’s coming "soon-ish", but it’ll be playable at PlayStation Experience 2017 in just over a month’s time. It’ll also feature HDR and 4K support on the PS4 Pro.

Definitely up for this, I really enjoyed the first game!
I enjoyed the first one but I never finished it. It was one of those games where I stopped playing it to do something else for a few days, and I could just never go back.
A shame really, because I was really liking it. Maybe I'll start over one day.
Not soon-ish enough.
Great news but I particularly enjoyed playing it on the Vita so I would hope to see the sequel on there as well however unlikely.
Highlight of the show for me. Loved the first one.
Whey now this is what I'm talking about. Very cool.
@get2sammyb You really should, especially if you have the Gold edition with all the extras. Things really start to ramp up in platforming and fighting after the second boss.
@get2sammyb got too tough for ya, go on, admit it. The game has a chicken suit for people like you.
@kyleforrester87 Bwak-bwak.
@RedMageLanakyn I'm pretty sure I have acquired the PS4 version at some point actually. Somehow.
@get2sammyb it was a ps plus title about a year ago.
I loved the first game, and even got the platinum on vita. I admit I didnt play through the complete edition on ps4 all the way through as I felt the portability factor on vita was perfect. Still; I have very high hopes for this
I liked the first one so much I've platted it the vanilla one on the VITA and the Turbo edition on the PS4. Will certainly get this down the line, but I must confess that lately I've been preferring new stuff instead of sequels.
I really hope they don't lock the good ending with ridiculous difficulty spike like the first game, it's like I'm wasting my time only to get the bad ending in guacamelee 1. I have no problem with hard games like spelunky and hotline miami since it's hard from the beginning, there's no difficulty spike.
Still, guacamelee 2 is a day one for me if the reviews is good.
