There’s a new PlayStation 4 firmware update available now – but don’t get too excited, as it merely improves system software performance. The patch – dubbed 5.01 for those keeping count – weighs in at 374MB but appears to be optional, so you won’t necessarily need to have it installed if you want to connect to the PlayStation Network.
We assume that this is fixing some bugs that were introduced by milestone update 5.00 recently. You can read more about that through here.

if it's optional i'll wait to see what happens before i download it
@FullbringIchigo Not a lot, everything seems identical to me so far. Definite bug fixes.
@get2sammyb well i'll wait for a bit and see if any new bugs pop up and if not i'll download it tonight
No good to me after 5.0 bricked my PS4.
@stevie85 try using Safe Mode it should allow you to update to the new software and might fix the problem

@FullbringIchigo I tried everything including safe mode. The PS4 gives out 3 beeps and nothing else.
The only good bug is a dead bug.

@get2sammyb The PS4 Media Player also got an update. "You can now select audio and subtitles".
DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS UPDATE!!!!! I believe it has messed up my system. Since I update last night, my PS4 has randomly shut off completely about 3 time!!!! DANGEROUS!!!!!!!
@JerkWad: Mind your language, please!
Is anyone else having trouble? My PS4 was showing an error message when trying to download the update. So I have aborted it for now. Will let the dust settle first.
