Hmm, this is dangerous. We’ve been trying to temper expectations for Sony’s forthcoming Paris Games Week showcase, but it is starting to seem like the platform holder has meaningful content to reveal. While we were expecting a nice gentle warm-up to PlayStation Experience – perhaps emphasising the PlayStation VR and indie content that many felt was absent at E3 2017 earlier in the year – it’s starting to seem like the platform holder has more up its sleeve.
The PlayStation Blog’s Sid Shuman is the latest to pour hype on the presser: “You won’t want to miss this,” he wrote tweeted a post about the briefing’s time and date. What exactly could the company be plotting beyond the obvious like updates on Dreams and Detroit: Become Human? A price drop, perhaps? Clearly something is brewing behind-the-scenes.

Wow. With all this hype, Sony better deliver.
Clearly a Knack 3 announcement.
Be careful with the hype...
@RedMageLanakyn Beat me to it!
I don't know. I would guess a price drop, possibly some new hardware (but not sure what that would be). Maybe one big new title.
@Mahe I mean, I wouldn't say one tweet is "all this hype". I'm sure it'll be a good showing if people are realistic about it.
well last year we got Ninokuni 2. I am excited. Reasonably!
@BLP_Software Maybe they are trying to make PGW a bigger deal in the industry by making decent announcements there. Once upon a time Liepzig/Gamescom didnt get that much international attention. Announcing a PS3 Slim did alot for it tho at least in the minds of US gamers and media.
I still think this conference exists to price drop the Pro so their building up hype in order to get the word out ahead of the Xbx coming out.
Lets be honest, E32017 wasn't bad at all. In a lot of ways it was very similar to their previous E3 - 2016. Perhaps too similar with a number of games appearing at both - but if those were 'good' games in 2016, then surely they are 'good' games in 2017. I don't recall too many VR or Indie games at 2016 either - just an hour long show with 'extended' game-play video's - rather than a barrage of 1-2min reveal trailers, with montages of VR and Indie releases and 'chat' - whether its hardware or dev chat. In 2017 Sony copied the same formula that was successful in 2016 and the games that wowed, on show again.
The issue was, I think, that in 2016 most of the games shown were 'new', our first look, our firs confirmation they were 'real'. In 2017, the only (non-VR) game I can recall being revealed was the 2nd remaster of a PS2 game - not including any multi-platform release. Also very few, if any, given any release schedule. We had already been waiting a year and some of us hoping that maybe Spider-Man would launch in Q42017 at the latest and Days Gone maybe closer than it transpires it is. Maybe the thought of Sony showing these games yet again at E32018 as they are still no closer to release compounded the disappointment.
Realistically, I can't think of too many Sony Studio's (certainly those that are more likely to appeal to the Paris/western world), that are working on Projects we don't know of. Only Sucker Punch spring to mind. Sony could have some 3rd Party 'Exclusive' like a Bloodborne 2 and some 'exclusive' deals with Rockstar and RDR2 for example so could show some of these.
They could of course rely on the 'nostalgia' card too - another Crash remastered package? Some other 'classic' game being remastered/remade or even rebooted?
Hardware wise, I doubt we will see anything 'new'. A revised PSVR has already been announced in Japan so an official western announcement? I am sure many are expecting a Pro price reduction - especially with the MS Xbox one X hitting the shelves in November. Of course they could just announce a 'bundle' and keep the price the standalone console sells at. Its still £100 cheaper after all. Maybe if MS had been more aggressive with their pricing, Sony would be more inclined to drop prices and its not like you can't find deals around with games bundled in too.I wouldn't mind seeing a revised DS4 - a DS4 Pro to rival MS's XB1 Elite controller perhaps?
No doubt it will be strong - Sony have a good line-up of games and some we haven't heard from for a long time too. These could almost feel like 'new' announcements. Show some new footage of Shenmue 3 and FF7 as well as Death Stranding, Wild, Dreams and maybe announce Sucker-Punches new project, maybe give us a release window on Q1/Q2 2018 exclusives...
No doubt Sony will have a 'good' Paris and dedicated fanboys will almost certainly be happy.
sly Cooper 5 word up son
Ape escape 4
I think a Pro price drop is a no brainer with the competition releasing their new hardware. A $100 price difference isn't anything to sneeze at. $150-200 (most likely $150) and you've positioned your "4K" device very nicely.
Outside of that...I'm not sure. It'll be interesting to see what they can bring to PGW and PSX.
Bloodborne 2 🤞
@BAMozzy
I don't think their 2017 conference was bad, in fact it was solid and the formula is nailed. It was just disappointing because we have come to expect exciting announcements from Sony, there weren't really any.
@wiiware @Boxmonkey Woop woop!
The ps5. That's what they're going to show. I have that on good authority.
Hopefully they'll be announcing a "Quiet Period" next year where publishers will be banned from releasing games so I can catch up a bit. 4 months should do it.
Gonna bookmark this when @get2sammyb blames us for feeling disappointed after the dust settles
@ThroughTheIris56 My opening Sentence stated that E32017 wasn't bad!! You are just agreeing with me. I don't think it was down to expectation because, even leading up to E32017, it appeared that only 'Sucker-Punch' was likely to be the only Dev to have something 'new' as all the other big studio's we already knew what they are working on.
I think if they had shown GT Sport, Wild, Dreams - maybe Knack 2 instead of showing a lot of the same games 2 years in row, it may have been less 'disappointing' - less 'deja vu'. Obviously they had some 'new' announcements but with only 1m or so PSVR owners, they were unlikely to be of great interest to many. A couple of release windows - even if they can't give an exact date may of helped generate excitement - as well as feeling like they were making some 'big announcement' rather than just showing us a bit more of games we already know are in their upcoming portfolio.
You either want something 'new' to add to your library of wanted games or some indication as to when you can expect to play. Its not like Sony didn't have games they could of shown with dates, games they could have shown we hadn't seen at E3 for years or (or ever) which could have made it feel more different from E32016.
Since it's EU based, more info on cyberpunk 2077 would be my best case scenario.
@get2sammyb Yeah, but it's not just one tweet. This is like the third time that Sony has hyped the event recently. So at least they seem to think they have something good.
if like to see whatever Sucker Punch are doing and Dark Cloud 3 obvs
@BLP_Software "A new not crap DS4?"
That last year. Keep up.
On topic my bets are on price drops for ps4 pro. £275 retail.
Everyone goes crazy
Then they show....
Strwets of rage 4 raaaaarrrrr.
PS4 pro price drop, the revised vr hardware, dreams, detroit and gran turismo will be the titles shown; possibly wild and probably another trailer for cod or destiny 2 given Sony's marketing deals. This would be my guess in any event.
@themcnoisy Sorry! Every comment I make just leads to jokes.
@themcnoisy I dont understand what is crap about the DS4 i love it.
@tameshiyaku As much as I want that to be true, I doubt CD Projekt Red would be at a Sony conference. Nevertheless, here's to hoping we find out something about it sometime soon.
I'm not that surprised. I just figured they'd bring out bigger guns when they have a bigger spotlight on them. As opposed to E3, where everything's a competition, having a more open space probably works out better.
@BLP_Software @themcnoisy the Analog Controler 2 by Fony is where it's at.
I'm gunna start a website called pushen.com.
I say a release date for Dreams and Detroit. Maybe some more gameplay for GOW and perhaps a sneak peak at Death Stranding. That would make it awesome in my books. Also some more gameplay of WiLD please!
The Last of Us 2 gameplay footage with a lot of decapitations and gore. That's what will get me hyped.
@Flaming_Kaiser me too. Unsure what BLPs game is, so negative.
Tbf the lads comments create activity, but he loves hating on Sony.
The DS4 is one of my favourite controllers. Especially the more durable DS4 released last year.
Typically I'm gonna be on holiday when this one airs...so I'll have to decide whether to stay up late to watch it or not...hmm...hmm...
PS4 Pro Plus is coming
Star Wars VR. Full game based on the experience they gave us last year in Battlefront.
