Assassin's Creed Origins is a very good game, and it seems to be reaping the rewards. Ubisoft has revealed that the latest open world stab-'em-up doubled previous title Assassin's Creed Syndicate's launch sales, which is obviously a big improvement, and exactly the kind of result that the publisher wants to see.
There are a bunch of different factors that bleed into this initial success. Positive reviews have certainly helped, and the general consensus seems to be that it's the best Assassin's Creed since Black Flag, which was a popular PlayStation 4 launch title. Word of mouth will have also played an important part, and if our traffic statistics are anything to go by, then a lot of people are already invested in the Egyptian adventures of Bayek.
Ubisoft says 35 per cent of sales were digital -- a significant chunk that various analytical firms still don't take into account when it comes to charts and the like. All of this has spurred boss Yves Guillemot to proclaim that Assassin's Creed is "officially back". A difficult point to argue against, but now we're just hoping that the publisher doesn't run the series into the ground all over again.

Quite enjoyed my opening few hours in the game - still only in the 'first' area so far. It still looks impressive and the combat isn't bad either. Too early to comment on story, quests etc but I like what I have seen so far...
Honestly, didn't think I would have enjoyed it as much as I have so far, only just hit level 30, some of the quests are a bit well, meh. But some are really really good, with good combat and a great storyline to boot. Double sales well deserved it would seem AC is indeed, back.
God making a good game without copy and paste sells who ever knew. Syndicate was great but with some more polish it would have been great. Stop pumping out these games every year and take some time.
Really enjoying it, well deserved!
Started playing the game a couple days ago and fortunately the change in combat, which I wasn't sold on when I read about it, isn't really that off putting. As far as the setting and world building, Ancient Egypt is the best 'playground' in the entire series. Story seems a bit 'meh' but I'm also not very far in so hopefully it gets better. Overall, it's been a very enjoyable experience.
Surprised you didn't go with "Officially Bayek" but yeah, I've only played about 2 hours mainly just running around clearing up the first area and I gotta say this is one of the best looking games I've ever played, it's just beautiful! Still getting to terms with the controls though it's probably my only gripe so far, I wish they just copied The Witcher in that sense.
It's a flipping tremendous game, fair play. I have actually been thinking about it while at work, just itching to get out of the office and home to have another blast.
I think is a shame people missed out on Syndicate as that was pretty great too.
@itshoggie
@itshoggie You can go into options and change the controls to alternate. That's what I did. Didn't like the original controls either
Yes i agree. Being a first time AC player, after i read the reviews and saw Ubisoft took it in to a more action rpg style, i had to try it. Im hooked. Loving the avenge missions which work even if you dont have ps plus. And the new boss challenges sound awesome.
I’m absolutely loving this. Ubisoft did the right thing not releasing an Assassin’s Creed last year, it’s breathed new life into what was let’s be honest a struggling franchise. Right, I’m off to climb a pyramid...
Great news. Although, I also thought Syndicate was excellent, so what do I know? 😅
Makes sense, the game looks like a fun time. Hopefully this is used as a soft reboot and they don't mess it up again.
Waiting for the holidays to pick this one up.
@DanM I've tried them, but just didn't like using X as the assassination/loot button.
AC2 was great, Brotherhood was good but a bit familiar.. revelation was one too many for me. i got abored about a quarter of the way through.. i haven't played any AC since. so my question is.. how enjoyable is AC:O for someone who got fatigued on AC pretty early on? particularly given that i'm pretty weary of ubisoft's approach to games in general - got bored a couple of hours into far cry 4, same for watch dogs.. got through about 2-3 missions of the ghost recon wildlands' beta before i deleted it, etc. the only ubi game i've actually managed to finish since far cry 3 is the division.
