Oh no! Gran Turismo Sport is built with multiplayer in mind, and it’s been pretty reliable since launch. The holidays have brought the simulation racer’s servers crashing down, though – and rendered most of the title unplayable. Because of the release’s FIA License element, you need to be connected to the game’s servers to save your progress, so… You, er, can’t save at this moment in time.
While we’re confident that Polyphony Digital will be working around the clock to fix things, the reality is that this is not a good look for a title that’s been scrambling to save face ever since its controversial launch a couple of months ago. Here’s hoping all gets resolved swiftly.

That's a real shame considering the new update is supposed to be good. I suppose this is what can happen when you're game's online only — what a pain.
Well there's always other games people can play in the meantime.
1. on Friday I get lots of free single-player stuff
2. on Satuday there's no server connection, thus I can't save
3. on Sunday I go back to playing Project Cars 2
This is not the standard I'm familiar with when it comes to a Gran Turismo game. Enable offline saving already.
If there was no single-player content I think this would be more acceptable, otherwise not.
Ideally a game should either be 100% multiplayer or 100% single-player (with local co-op perhaps), in my humble opinion.
This shows that this game deserved low scores from critics. Until they patch it to be playable offline I'll pass.
Pathetic
I sold my copy after about 3 days due to lack of content, I won't lie I did have a slight twinge of regret when I heard they were doing a single player update but this has convinced me I made the correct decision
I've been playing it for hours this morning. I know people are miffed with lack of content at launch and online only save (inexcusable really), BUT, all I can say playing for the gold on the Nuremberg circuit on circuit challenge, with a TR300 steering wheel mounted on a playseat in front of an 55" OLED with HDR,is just simply amazing experience. For me, it beats all other racing games on PS4 when it come to pure joy of driving.
This is what I wrote two months ago...
"I'll wait for Fall 2018 when we'll get Gran Turismo Career Edition: GT Sport + all DLC cars and tracks + the old Career mode they'll introduce via patch after the servers implosion."
@bighal that sounds amazing! Mind Sharing some pics of your set up?
just keep retrying after the 5th attempt it conects and runs fin
@THEundying27 Hi, I would do it, if I knew how to post pics on this forum.
They should just seriously drop the whole online only nonesense. I understand that it was built with that in mind but, why not giving the option to disable it for those who wish for a single player experience and couldn’t care less for online leaderboards and such?
I never understood the whole rage over servers being down. I simply play different games when that happens.
@bighal (img)insertlinkofthepictureyouuploadedelsewherehere(/img) ... But with square brackets.
@naruball Its not a huge issue, but becomes worse when you have a particular group of friends who all have limited time. I used to set up events but on 4 occassions on 3 different games (Rocket league, destiny and street fighter 5) the servers were down or not working properley and we had to go our own ways. Its disappointing when it happens when you throw a game on for half an hour, it ruins your night if youve arranged a meet up.
@naruball
I don't think the rage is over the servers being down as such, that can happen to any game at any given time. It's more the fact that the game is pretty much unplayable when they are down.
At the very least you should still be able to play the arcade mode or the single player career mode without an online connection.
This is the reason why offline gaming thrives, GT Sport should have been offline with a choice of online, not being able to save progress when offline is backwards IMO and you can see why this game plummeted to under 20 quid in under a month of release
@themcnoisy yeah, that I get. If you try to play with more than one friend, it can get pretty frustrating when you end up not being able to because of the servers or something.
The rest of the cases I find not that big of a deal. I mean selling a game or not buying it at all while you plan to, because there are some server issues seems to weird to me to say the least.
I won't be buying GT Sport because I don't care for racing games. But if I did, I know the possibility of servers being down every now and them wouldn't bother me. I think the gaming community is extremely impatient and goes on rage mode way too easily.
Servers were back online last night. While the occasional outage doesn't bother mean, I would seriously suggest PD find a way next year to allow everyone to save offline, especially now there's much more content to play offline.
@adf86 I agree just make the singleplayer with offline saves. Maybe its possible to see if its offline times and post them only locally on the PS4 or a different chart online with shows off and online times.
@oli_uk And still Destiny 2 just dropped below the €30 with €20 DLC that you finish in no time.
@andreoni79 It wont be with GT Sport because its quite understandable why the online stuff is this way. I think it will be with online but not with your times posted in the official way.
Wow. That really sucks. The fact that they didn't/couldn't prepare for this during possibly one of the busiest days is crazy. Online only in a game like this is anti-consumer. (Traditionally single player) The fact that people defend this is laughable. I wouldn't care if it was down 20 mins if I paid for it I'd at least expect it to function correctly (saves).
@RoyalGuard https://www.gtplanet.net/many-people-played-gt-sport-christmas-weekend-psn-thought-ddos-attack/
Not that it makes things better but the drop out wasnt actually PD's fault. More that Sony's DDOS protection thought the sheer number of users trying to log on to GT Sport was infact an attack on PSN.
