Death Stranding’s new trailer is not a CG concept – it’s running in real-time on the PlayStation 4 Pro, courtesy of Guerrilla Games’ stunning Decima Engine. In fact, according to creator Hideo Kojima there’s actually bits and pieces of gameplay in it – although it’s not immediately obvious when you watch it. The underwater section, for example, is apparently part-playable.
More importantly, PS4 architect Mark Cerny – who’s working with Kojima Productions on the project as a kind of technical producer – admitted during a PSX 2017 panel overnight that he’s played a chunk of the title. Joking about the sheer insanity of the latest trailer, he said that the title starts to make sense after you’ve played it for “four or five hours”. Well, then.

That's refreshing, considering that MGS 2 STOPPED making sense after four-five hours.
i am really on the fence. everything shown looks interesting but after a year,nobody knows what it is about,we dont know nothing about gameplay,like wtf? a year guys
Definitely too early to say yay or nay, I just hope Sony is able to keep him focused enough to not burn through millions while he's trying to figure out just what exactly he's doing here besides confusing everyone. Four to five hours before you "make sense" of the game is about 4 hours more than the average person's attention span nowadays.
Hands everywhere, the creatures here must be Danny Rand's worst nightmare.
@KingdomHeartsFan It's an open world action game. He's already said this.
@oryo23 Watch the language please
@Nickolaidas lol
Glad they've confirmed that for us.
One things for sure, the alien / monster trackers going off in game will be horrific. Love that design. Kojima is a genius.
this was my face after that trailer
seriously it was confusing as hell, what IS this game?
@KingdomHeartsFan @get2sammyb he’s also said it will defy current genres and be “something new” in the same way that MGS did.
The truth is that we don’t know if he’s a mad genius or a mad genius. Did Konami’s structure keep him focused enough to produce something marketable, and will he go off the rails without someone holding his leash? Or will his genius be unrestrained to produce something beautiful? We have zero idea right now... just a bunch of trailers which people think are happening concurrently.
We certainly know ZERO about the gameplay.
@KingdomHeartsFan agreed.
I'm pretty sure it will be a great game when it launches 2020 as the last big AAA game of the Ps4. Will make it easier to tolerate the wait for the first killer apps of the Ps5, which probably will be out by then.
Spoiler- We play as the baby, and Norman Reedus is cutscene only.
@KingdomHeartsFan To be fair the game has only been in full production for less then a year so they would be really restricted in what they can show in that regard. Plus Kojima likes to tease audiences with his trailers, he's done it with every Metal Gear. But Metal Gear was easy to pin down on how it plays because we had past games to compare it too. Whereas Death Stranding we don't and that's what excites me right now, people should only really know how a game properly plays till closer to release.
@Grawlog Bingo. I will be too busy shipping myself if it goes off in a dark corner of the map to scan anything.
I kinda got an Until Dawn vibe from the trailer but apparently (and hopefully) I am wrong. It was a decent experience but I prefer more traditional approach. Looking forward to it nonetheless.
My mind is still messed up from it.
It's getting interesting now, I wonder what year they will release it. Hope the story is more fun than MGS5.
I have no fukin idea what was going on and I loved the fact that I didn't. I felt the same way when I played the OG Silent Hill on the PSX (and Silent Hill2 slightly less so) and I want a quality game that fascinates, rivets and confuses me again. They are rare, but this looks like it has that feel. Awesome.
Just watched your video, PushSquare.. What the hell is with a search list at 2:04 with "Hide it in my Sock" at the bottom??
