We know that God of War is supposedly due out in the first half of 2018, but Sony may have just accidentally leaked the highly anticipated title's release date ahead of an official announcement. Spotted by the eagle-eyed Wario64, the US PlayStation Store added a 22nd March, 2018 launch date to the game's page overnight. However, once word started to spread, the date was quickly changed to the 31st December, 2018 -- clearly a placeholder.
To make matters even more interesting, Amazon UK has decided to slap a date on the official God of War art book, apparently set to release on the 15th March.
Could God of War hit the PlayStation 4 in March? It's entirely possible, and if that PlayStation Store date turns out to be real, then someone's really buggered up. Let's not forget that The Game Awards and PlayStation Experience 2017 are mere days away -- a confirmed God of War release date would be a big reveal for either event.
Would you be happy with God of War launching in March? Grab an axe and head into the comments section below.

March is the most predictable release date for a God of War game ever. They all come out in March. It's coming out in March.
Apparently they already have posters and billboards up in London.
The original GoW also released on March 22nd, 2005.
Why not release the reboot on the same day. I think it's legit.
Maybe they were hoping to announce it at the game awards ahead of PSX and someone jumped the gun.
March is god of war month always has been. As soon as it was revealed I said march in my head so I'm glad.
I'll be looking forward to PushSquare's review of this game. may be my first ever God of War.
Isn't March 22nd Thor's day?
@get2sammyb word up son it's coming in March.the best PlayStation franchise is coming.can't wait.worddd uppp sonnn
ohh.. almost called it. i'd said friday 16th march - https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2017/10/pgw_2017_glorious_god_of_war_ps4_gameplay_returns_in_new_trailer#comment4191909
GoW 3 and ascension both released around the same date in march 2010 and 2013 respectively, and GoW3 went on to sell 5m+ - was always likely this would release in the early part of the year.
Perfect, will hopefully be thru my Fall/Winter backlog by then (probably not tho lol) can't wait to hear more at PSX!
Yeah, this seems pretty likely, especially with PSX so close - I imagine it'll be one of the main announcements.
I figured March would be the month.
I am not a fan of the God of War games but the initial reveal of this had me very interested. The E3 game-play did put me off a bit with the Boy constantly chatting throughout the combat sequence and the 'boat' trailer didn't do a lot for me but that first reveal at E3 2016 really did grab my attention.
If this does release in March, I can't say that 'currently' it would be a Day 1 purchase for me. Most of the 'confirmed' release date games so far in 2018 have little/no appeal with Far Cry 5 (Feb 27th) is the only game I may consider buying so far. Therefore a March release wouldn't put up against any other games that may persuade me to purchase instead. The lack of big games I want may help me to decide to take a chance on this.
I still have a lot of games I haven't yet started let alone near to completion so that may also be a factor as to whether I buy or not - assuming March is confirmed.
@BAMozzy best PlayStation franchise ever word up son
Hope so! Tired of these long waiting times...waiting 2, 3 or 4 years since reveal is just ridiculous
@AFCC But it hasn't even been two years since it was revealed?
Hmmm...wouldn’t this put it in the same release window as Ni no Kuni 2?
@playstation1995 Not in my opinion!! Uncharted, Killzone, Resistance, Infamous etc are all better. I have never liked games like God of War, DMC, Dantes Inferno etc. I certainly wouldn't be upset if God of War was never made again. That being said, the 'new' God of War does look as though they are bringing something new to the franchise and its that that has me interested. If its like the others though, I won't be buying it at all.
@get2sammyb Just seems that long as its been at most, if not all major games events. It will be over 21 months after its first reveal if it does launch at the end of March.
@AFCC
It was officially announced at E3 2016 in June of that year. If it releases in March, that will be one year and nine months from announcement to release (or 21 months as @BAMozzy noted above).
Barring the inevitable delay, of course.
Give it to me!
@get2sammyb "March is the most predictable release date for a God of War game ever. They all come out in March. It's coming out in March."
Glad you got 1st post with that one. I feel like it would have actually been in the article if you wrote it instead of Shogun. 100% agree that was always the plan, still 50-50 on a delay until May.
Any word on a season pass or DLC w/ this one? I was shocked H:ZD didn't have any, until it did.
@BAMozzy nope to you.but to me it's the best franchise ever.word up son
Better not. Already have vampyre , new red dead redemption and the rumoured anthem to come out in march
@johnny30 Anthem isn't coming out in March. No chance. It'll be Christmas.
@AFCC Why? Games take time and Sony are not going to sit on their hands forever otherwise they wouldn't be able to do E3's and PSX"s every year.
@lacerz @get2sammyb I was talking about other (most of them) games Looks at Death Stranding
@AFCC Kojima can do what he likes dammit!
@get2sammyb well...I would go homo for him (no homo)
Whoever leaked the date will be having a meeting with Mr K. Ratos in HR in the morning to discuss their future prospects. Also makes sense it would launch in March. Just hope we dont therefore have a long wait for Spider-Man
Really hope it's true, this game will be amazing.
@AFCC Wolfenstein 2 and The Evil Within 2 were announced recently and released soon after, and look what happened, bad sales for these great games.
@PS_Nation I don't think there's a correlation. There are plenty of games that sold poorly that were announced way before their release, and also plenty of games that sold well, despite being announced and released in the same year.
I always thought a March release date was always a given as Sony loves to release their big AAA game early in the year.
@PS_Nation Evil Within had a mediocre first game so the sales being bad kinda comes from that. Wolfenstein just came out close to COD and BF, and people (dumb) prefer the same multiplayer experiences when they have to choose. Anyway, I keep saying 1 year is more than enought to market a god damn videogame (COD does it everytime for instance)
Hey! That's right next to my birthday! This game is my most anticipated game for 2018.
Here's hoping they announce the release date at PSX .
