Dakar, the crazy, dangerous endurance rally, is getting an official PS4 game later this year. The announcement trailer popped up on PlayStation's YouTube channel today, featuring a variety of vehicles and environments, and it certainly looks interesting.
The game is being developed by Bigmoon Entertainment and will be published by Deep Silver. For those who may not have heard of Bigmoon Entertainment, its previous games, including Lichdom Battlemage and Alekhine's Gun, were widely panned by critics and players alike. However, the developer does also have a fair amount of experience with racing games, having worked on WRC 3 and 5, as well as FlatOut 4.
As for Dakar 18 itself, Bigmoon is working in tandem with ASO (Amaury Sport Organisation) and real world competitors to make the game as authentic as possible. Real drivers and vehicles will be included, as well as a gigantic open world South America you'll need to navigate through. Vehicles are split into five categories, as seen in the real world event, and include bikes, ATVs, cars, trucks, and SxS (utility vehicles). The developer's aim is simulation, so different vehicle classes will control very differently from one another. The game will feature single player and multiplayer modes.
There isn't a whole lot to go on, and Bigmoon has a pretty sketchy portfolio, but perhaps a big licence such as Dakar will see a step up in quality. It certainly sounds ambitious.

Ooh this could be cool.
@get2sammyb Definitely has potential!
So is this a PS4 exclusive, or is it also coming to Xbox One, Switch and PC? I'd have to imagine it would. Also, them CG graphics though... would have prefered to see real-time gameplay graphics in this trailer.
@Turismo4GT PC and Xbox One as well. Hopefully we'll see gameplay soon
@Quintumply cheers, I really want to see gameplay, I love racing/rally games and this looks like it has potential.
Could be good. Will keep an eye on it...
When is it being released in SA?
Cooool ! I've been waiting a long time for a new Dakar game. Dakar 2 was one of my favourite racing games on the PS2, many years ago (still have copies of both games), they were unique.
I just hope people - especially journalists - will have realistic expectations. This will not be a "hardcore" sim like Dirt Rally, and it will not look like a 400-team big-budget game.
It will most likely handle like Dirt 1-3 or the WRC games, all of which I personally enjoyed, so I know that I will probably get what I want and expect from this game.
As far as graphics goes I don't care that much, sure I'm impressed when things look amazing, but it's never been a priority for me, especially in racing games. My priority will be on how well it captures and presents a Dakar event.
Sounds pretty cool
