We still don't know when you'll actually be able to play it, but at least we can tell you that you won't have to fork out any extra cash for a Season Pass whenever God of War launches.
Responding to a fan on Twitter, lead designer Cory Barlog stated that Kratos' latest adventure won't be accompanied by a whole host of content downloads:
This all but confirms that God of War won't receive a healthy serving of post-launch support outside of patches and bug fixes, but it doesn't rule out a larger expansion later on in the year, a la Horizon: Zero Dawn.
Do you prefer this approach, or would you rather buy a Season Pass that at least promises post-launch DLC?

This is fine by me. Not a fan of season passes actually.
And the fact that he’s played through it all and was happy with it has got to mean the release date is imminent, right?
Nice I wouldn't mind an expansion though that would be awesome.
More than happy to not have DLC/season pass. Thank you developers/Sony!
Sigh, I just hope that they don't take away the lootboxes, because I really like it.
@Th3solution I'm thinking that Sony are going to wait till the Game Informer coverage is done at the end of the month then announce the date.
I'm curious as to what a game like God of War would have as DLC. Maybe levels and weapons, but I can't really think of anything this game could sell as DLC.
nice
@DerMeister skins? Trials/challenges? Extra missions?
Now my interest with the game have increased. Though, a dlc expansion with new stuff like weapons and bosses would be cool. Maybe taking place somewhere in the nordic regions like Asgard, Hvergelmir or Midgard.
I would love an expansion to release 9 or so months after the game released, similar to Horizon.
@Th3solution Leaks suggest a March release date, and yea they are just testing for bugs at this point probably. Maybe throwing in last minute ideas to make things look nicer or run better in certain areas.
I don't mind either way. You can't complain at the Witcher 3's Season Pass and knowing ahead of time they were going to add more content. Its not worth adding a Season Pass for 1 extra DLC pack later on - HZD wouldn't benefit from it.
It really does depend on the game and whether the individual is likely to play any DLC but I would rather be offered the chance to buy a Season Pass for a 'discounted' price than end up paying more for each pack individually. There is also nothing that says the Season Pass must be purchased on Day 1 (or at all if you don't want) and can wait to see what all the Season Pass content is before buying - wait until the last pack is released and reviewed if you prefer.
I think gamers get all worked up over nothing with the mention of DLC or Season Pass. Its totally optional and a Season Pass is better value on the DLC. Not all DLC is 'poor' either and some can really add to a game. There has been a number of excellent DLC packs.
As for this game, I wouldn't have been bothered either way. As someone who is not a God of War fan - at least the older games, I wouldn't have been looking to buy DLC or a Season Pass if they announced it. After buying the game and playing through it, if I enjoyed the game and there was a couple of decent Add-ons, I would happily buy a Season Pass rather than pay more for them individually. Having played H:ZD, I certainly would have bought a Season Pass for the Frozen Wilds and 2nd DLC too. I wouldn't buy Last of Us 2 season pass though because chances are, I will not play the MP and it may work out better to buy any 'story' based DLC - assuming they follow the same pattern...
Point is, judge the games individually, their 'history' (previous DLC content) and whether or not you are likely to get all the DLC. Its impossible to say all DLC is rubbish or all Season Passes are bad - season passes offer the better value generally but if you don't like MP for example, no point buying CoD or BF DLC or season passes but for those that love those games, the Season Pass represents great value.
Fine by me. Theyll consider dlc if it does well. Fingers crossed. I got this puppy preordered
Of course it wont. PlayStation best franchises ever is coming in March .word up son
I don't like season pass at all, I rather have big dlc expansion like horizon zd frozen wild.
Sony is more on expansion which for me is better since i love what they did in bloodborne and horizon
Cool. Now release date please.
I'd gladly pay another 20€ for the next H:ZD DLC, if there would be one. But I really want my money for the FFXV Season Pass refunded.
@DLB3 I know many tar all DLC with the same brush but 99% of it is rarely cut from the game. What a lot of people may not realise is that in the final months before a game is even due to go Gold, a lot of the developers would or could be sat on their hands for most of the day whilst others are play testing, compiling the work by 'different' teams, etc so they have time to at least make a start on any DLC content. By the time they get to that stage, the development teams that built the world/environment, the character designers, the animators etc should have finished their work but may still be needed to make tweaks, alterations, fix bugs/clipping issues etc but in the mean-time, could be working on DLC or whatever the next Project is.
If you listen to Herman Hulst talking about H:ZD, they started that before Killzone released. Most relatively sizeable studio's do not need 'everybody' working on a game consistently. Some aspects must come first before the others can even start their work. Therefore, those that specialise in certain areas must 'finish' before others too and those can 'start' on DLC.
MP games for example may also have 20+ maps built. Of those 20, maybe 14 will make the final release. Those 6+ others may well be released as DLC - maybe just a bit of polish or maybe with some more major alterations to fix what ever issue, they felt these had as to why they didn't make the cut. It doesn't mean they were 'cut' from the game as such either.
If you also watch the Game Informer chat about God of War and finally finishing the game, they also say they cut a lot of the game out to improve the story, the flow etc - some of that 'could' be used to build DLC out of. Having areas in a game also doesn't prove that content was specifically cut either. It maybe that by the time the game went gold, the environmentalist was able to put these in to the world as 'place holders' for upcoming DLC. The first Witcher 3 DLC doesn't add any new areas either but you can't exactly say that was cut either.
It just annoys me that people get all worked up. The Season Pass in particular came about to benefit gamers - not to benefit developers/publishers. Granted it can be an 'up-front' purchase and gamers can take the chance on faith alone but ultimately, its still up to the gamer to assess. Past history with a franchise and its DLC may well be enough to warrant buying at launch, maybe even buy a 'collectors' edition that includes the season pass. It's all going to work out better value than buying the game and all DLC so its a bonus/discount for the 'fans' of the franchise.
I like proper expansions as DLC, such as new stories, new areas or levels. More gameplay basically. Makes me think of the expansions you used to get for board games like Heroquest. You get something meaty for your money.
What I don't like is DLC tat: costumes, avatars, weapons, micro transactions. Tat.
Season Passes don't really bother me. The way I see it, if I like a game enough and it has expansions later on, I'm going to get them anyway, if a Season Pass means I save a few extra $ and I get a couple cosmetic things like new weapons, gear or other items as a bonus, I'm cool with that.
Of course, it's always nice to see a developer focus on making a game and saying 'that's that.' You know you're getting the full experience and I'll be the first to admit, even as somebody wo supports DLC there are some developers who take ridiculous advantage of it. Dead Rising 4 was an incomplete game without it.
