Got to be Big Boss even though I do love Solid Snake it's just that Snake Eater is so damn good and that is partly down to him as a character.
Picking between Big Boss and Solid Snake is near impossible. That's got to be the hardest match yet.
Shut up. It's not Wednesday already. This article is an awful weekly reminder of how quickly I'm approaching death.
Edit: for some reason the weekly what are you playing article doesn't have the same effect on me, it must be a Wednesday thing.
Solid Snake obvs.
@kyleforrester87 Just try not to die before this tournament ends.
@ShogunRok Will do.
And for the record Solid Snake is so much cooler than Big Boss. Yes I'm aware I've got a Big Boss avatar, but it's taken from the one scene where he isn't being a depressive goon. Solid Snakes a cigarette hiding womanising genetically enhanced one man war machine.
@JoeBlogs Yeah, Snake's a genetic clone of Big Boss.
Big Boss for me.. I mean, come on. He is the original!
Wasn't Big Boss vs Snake decided in Metal Gear 2? Keep canon everybody!
Solid Snaaaake!
@Futureshark ehhh actually perhaps not, if you play MGS5 to completion or perhaps read the final section of the plot on Wikipedia... (i personally didn't finish MGS5 entirely so some of its a bit vague to me, and to be honest you'd need to re-read the MG lore book once a year to keep up to date)
I picked Big Boss because I love long ladders.
Suzuki FTW!!!
@kyleforrester87 No he's right. Solid Snake kills a decoy Big Boss in MG1, and fights Naked Snake AKA Big Boss in MG2, but he somehow survives only to die in MGSIV from FoxDie. MGSV didn't change it; it just brought the series full circle while also opening more doors than it closed.
Big Boss is losing!?
This is a la-le-lu-le-lo conspiracy! Wake up sheeple! This is just what they want you to do!
Suzuki needs to win that final battle. C'mon, folks.
@Constable_What as I understood, and I'll use spoiler tags..(which are not working in the comment section?) So..
Spoilers below:
It is later revealed that Venom Snake is not actually Big Boss but a loyal MSF medic caught in the same explosion that injured the real Big Boss, Ishmael. During his coma, the medic was transformed into a second Big Boss via plastic surgery and hypnotherapy to serve as a decoy for the actual Big Boss while he wages a covert war against Cipher. Snake goes on to set the events of the Outer Heaven uprising in motion, and dies at the hands of Solid Snake. The original Big Boss resurfaces during the Zanzibar Land disturbance.
Therefore the Big Boss Snake kills in MG1 is the Venom Snake from MGS5, and the original Big Boss resurfaces in MG2?
Snake vs Snake, what is life
@SuperSilverback
I know right. Like, how does that even work??
@kyleforrester87 Yeah that's right.
Therefore Snake vs Big Boss is essentially settled in MG 2; It's my understanding that it is Solid Snake vs Naked Snake. You understand completely; That's what confuses me about your first comment.
-Edit for clarity-
To be clear I kept my comment vague because the spoiler tags don't work.
@Constable_What I just re-read the comment that started my mindless rambling and can see he did say MG2, I didn't notice the 2 the first time round :')
Sorry for the mix up! Still, nice little refresher course - cant hurt
@kyleforrester87
I was racking my brain around this conversation; trying to see if there was something I misunderstood. Hahaha!
No worries, man. I enjoy conversing about Metal Gear, especially when the conversation revolves entirely around being confused. xD
@b1ackjack_ps Yep, totally random. Right at the start, we essentially put all the characters into a hat and drew them out.
Metal Gear Solid 3 was better than MGS. Big Boss should be winning. I love these polls. Good stuff!
Snaaaaake!!!
@legalstep MGS 4 tho 😯
Pac-man vs Max Payne. There's something oddly poetic about that.
How is Big Boss losing to Solid Snake??
Big Boss pulled Eva! Come on people. While you're at it, vote for Suzuki and Corvo too.
Pacman, Solid, Tombi and Hale.
Not invested in any pairing except the MGS one that was tough. Went with Solid because I find him more iconic.
Big Boss vs. Solid Snake... that's not fair. I want to vote for both. I ended up going for Big Boss because I think he's slightly more interesting.
TOMBA!!!
@Constable_What @kyleforrester87 It all make perfect sense in Kojima’s head, I assume. But my question is, do you think he intended from the beginning to have different Big Bosses, Snakes, clones, decoys .... or was he just making stuff up as he went along? He’s either a genius or he’s a scatter brain. I feel like you have to have a university degree in Metal Gear to fully understand his world. Hold on tight for the absolute mind blow of Death Stranding. We’ll finally understand the plot by Death Stranding 5 on PlayStation 7.
@Th3solution Making it up as he goes along I think lol. He was saying it would be his last MG game since he finished MGS2? So by that logic he hadn't planned 3,4 or 5 until he did them.
I hope they make a remaster of the Resistance games one day. It's one of my favourite FPS series.
Solid over Naked Snake everytime. Though still cant decide if MGS1 or Snake Eater is my favourite
How is Max Payne losing? Good lord.
Don’t want to repeat a point. But these ain’t PlayStation characters haha.
Definitely solid snake over big boss. I hated the almost total removal of snake in exchange for big boss. Snake was bar FAR the best character and the one that actually launched the franchise. Using the Nintendo character model of Snake for the “PlayStation” character poll also seems a bit stupid and kind of shows that this “PlayStation character” poll isn’t for Playstation characters
Nathan Hale was so bad xD I love the game thou
@legalstep Please be quiet.
Corvus or Tombi well it has to be Tombi
@KingSandyRavage "Don’t want to repeat a point."
repeats point twice in same comment
@ShogunRok I know, I was there when I wrote it. It was a rhetorical admission of “reluctant” I told you so. It sure what point you’re making though except for acknowledging you can read?
@Flaming_Kaiser certainly does
Oh yeah, so who wants to play Pacman and who wants to play some of the greatest action games ever made - Max Payne 1, 2 and 3?
If you're saying Pacman do me a favour and GTFO. Newbs.
@SuperSilverback Twin Snakes was the best one. Best version of the best game and one of the best games ever made.
@KingSandyRavage Just finding it hard to believe someone would feel the need to post in several different articles stating the exact same opinion each time even though they know nothing will change.
@ShogunRok it’s not really any less relevant this time than it was last time. It’s also no less repetitive than the article itself.
The point about the image of solid snake used in the article was a new point of mild interest that actually gave credence to the previous post, so was worth a nod.
How is Pac-Man beating Max Payne? Jesus, you guys have awful taste.
@kyleforrester87 well, it’s a poll about characters, not games, so of course Pac-Man is more relevant than Max Payne. I mean, you certainly won’t want to argue Max Payne is a more iconic video game character than Pac-Man, right?
And the most heated battle of the whole event is Pac-Man vs Max Payne.
@ShogunRok #53 I guess you don’t visit Nintendo Life often then, as there are a couple of notably annoying commenters who literally spit out the same comment over and over 😂
@#48 god how annoying these “overly defensive Push Square editor’s comments that focus on everything that isn’t the main point just to not address the critique” (TM) are! Honestly, they just make you look silly, petty and, well, overly defensive about your job.
Edit: @nhSnork 😂😂😂😂😂
@clvr it's about who'd win, and Max Payne would win - not even worth arguing with me on this one bro.
@KingSandyRavage I thought Twin Snakes was garbage to be honest haha
@SuperSilverback shame that, as it’s the best one.
Metal Gear Solid is the best Metal Gear game in the series, they never bettered it.
Given your PSN icon IS solid snake from the original Metal Gear Solid, I can only assume you’re a fan of the game too? Or is meant to be ironic?
@KingSandyRavage Its Snake from Sons of Liberty! And no i love all of them! Well im not too fond of Phantom Pain, gameplay is great but story was a real let down compared to the rest i feel
And i duno but there is something about Twin Snakes that just really puts me off
@Th3solution I think a bit of both once MGS1 was released. I honestly don't think he knew the franchise would be as big as it is by MG2. I think he started to look for a way to tie everything together by MGS3 though.
As @kyleforrester87 said, Kojima went on record saying the current Metal Gear game, at that time, would be his last. I think Kojima was trying to find a way to end Metal Gear in a way that would not just satisfy the fans, but himself.
@SuperSilverback you’ve never played Twin Snakes then?
The first one was the best one by miles. None of the others sucked you in in the same way and the characters only got thinner and less original.
I think 3 is hugely overrated and the whole mucking about with camo and eating wildlife just seemed out of place and gimmicky. The fact it turned out you weren’t even playing as snake made it even worse. Why create an amazing character to play as and then sack him off for most of the sequels?
4 was good and at least we got snake back.
Not a fan of phantom pain or sons of Liberty. Weirdly I did really like Metal Gear Rising.
But as far as Metal Gear Solid goes, Twin Snakes took everything that made the original one of the best experiences ever and rebuilt it for next gen with Kojima. It delivered an utter ode to the original game and made it amazing all over again if you ever wanted to go back and relive it with out having the PsOne muddy graphic engine befouling your TV.
@kyleforrester87 Well I guess we just look at this poll from different perspectives then
@clvr yeah it's my way or the highway
@Kidfried Could do if it's a problem? Can you not zoom in or perhaps save the image? Writing last week's winners down is something we could do but it'll look a bit weird with the images. We could make the image text bigger by cropping them, but then we'd end up with half the article taken up by previous results.
@3Above well yeah that too
@KingSandyRavage That's character model isn't Nintendo's, as far as I know. Konami have used it for all sorts - trading cards, Pachinko machines, etc. - so it's probably just a stock piece.
