Video game icon Yuji Naka – the former boss of Sonic Team and the lead programmer of the original Sonic the Hedgehog games – has announced that he joined Square Enix in January. “I’m joining game development as before, and strive to develop games at Square Enix,” he said. “I aim to develop an enjoyable game, please look forward to it.”
Naka left Sonic Team in 2006 and founded Prope, which has created titles such as Digimon All-Star Rumble. It’s unclear whether Naka’s new role at Square Enix will affect Prope, but we’ll send out some emails and attempt to get some clarification.

He'll probably be working on some Sonic themed FF15 DLC.
@kyleforrester87 The perfect first comment.
I probably would have left in 2006 as well considering what game Sonic Team put out that year...

So...Square tell all their employees to say "Please be excited"?
@Splints I think it's a Japanese thing. "I humbly ask you to please be excited!"
Bow.
@kyleforrester87 You are probably right it just seems Square employees say it at a higher frequency
Looking forward to his Square Enix game in 2030
@Splints don't know if you ever watched a japanese nintendo direct but they say that phrase after every game announcement
it's just a saying really.
@Giygas_95 Apparently his departure was a large contributing factor to how '06 turned out, since he left mid-development.
@Orpheus79V Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised.
