Firesprite’s long anticipated procedurally generated horror The Persistence will spook PlayStation VR headset wearers from 24th July. Available to pre-order from the PlayStation Store now – with a discount for PlayStation Plus members – the title fuses the popular rogue-lite genre with first-person Dead Space-esque outer-space survival, with each run seeing you adopt the body of a new “clone”.
The idea is that you’re a survivor on an abandoned colony ship, and there just so happen to be a few not-so friendly faces left behind. The layout of the vessel changes with each playthrough, but as you progress further and further you’ll unlock, er, persistent upgrades which will allow you to explore further. There’s even asymmetric co-op which enables a friend to help out on a tablet of smartphone.

So it's like Rogue Legacy but horror and VR? Seems cool...too bad I don't have VR and even if I had I'm to young to die from an heart attack
@AFCC Pretty much. It's a really interesting concept, I think — it's bringing together loads of different genres. I'm just not sure if it's going to work.
The problem is that if it's meant to be replayed over and over like a rogue-lite, then how quickly are the scares going to wear out? And at what point does the slow-paced stealth gameplay become a chore.
I think you can do rogue-lite with a side-scroller or twin-stick shooter because the gameplay is a bit more snappy, but I'm not sure it's going to work in a first-person survival environment.
That said, I'm eager to give it a go. I hope to be proven wrong!
Ugh, the first two words of the headline turned me right off. Can nobody just DESIGN a good game anymore?
Hope it gets a physical release!
Intriguing from my perspective. Not too much into VR horror because the amount of pants I get through though.
Sounds great! After Skyrim VR my enthusiasm for VR has increased considerably. I just hope my back is better by then, because playing VR is a literal pain.
@get2sammyb if it's like the new COD, once you got scared from a zombie you know what's going to happen and it doesn't scare you anymore! So unless they have some pretty creative scares it will be difficult...
But since it's VR I assume it's way scarier...never tried VR but I imagine it to be
