Rockstar has just confirmed the release date for its latest Western epic, Red Dead Redemption 2. Delayed from its "Spring 2018" release window, the game will now launch on 26th October 2018.
In a short press release on its website, Rockstar says, "We apologize to everyone disappointed by this delay. While we had hoped to have the game out sooner, we require a little extra time for polish.
"We sincerely thank you for your patience and hope that when you get to play the game, you will agree the wait will have been worth it."

My most anticipated release for 2018 - of course I will be buying day 1!!!
Could have put money on it. But at the same time: Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Can't wait for it, but I'm worried if Rockstar will focus on the multiplayer mode just like they did with GTA V.
Would love to play a expansion like Undead Nightmare again, but I'm afraid they will create events instead on multiplayer.
How many release dates just got changed internally at other publishers?
A delay wasn't surprising. To be honest, I'm just glad we'll see it this year. I'm fine with polish as long as it's as good or better than Redemption 1.
@PS_Nation I'm sure they will focus on the online. They got a ton of money from that.
NOOOOOO!!!!
Cool. I enjoyed the original, but I'm going to wait and see how online-focused it is before buying in.
It's going to be interesting to sed how many games get shifted to early 2019 now this has been announced.
Good, now Sony give me Spider-Man & Days Gone this summer!
@get2sammyb EA is probably planning to release Titanfall 3 on the same day.
@get2sammyb Like Watch Dogs 3 or a new Assassin's Creed, Ubisoft will not release these games near Red Dead Redemption 2.
While I enjoyed the first Read Dead game, I've never had an urge to replay it. I have the same "problem" with most of Rockstars' games: I enjoy my first playthrough but never touch them again.
So Read Dead 2 is not on my wish list, watching a walkthough will enough for me. I prefer the Spiderman, Days Gone, and God of War line-up, in addition to a gazillion of Japanese titles.
I will buy on release day, but i have learned my lesson with pre-orders being delayed.
Fine with me.
@get2sammyb unless their game is in an entirely different genre, like racing or strategy, I'd say 'quite a few' .
@Bonbonetti Even racing and strategy, needs some attention to shine. Look at Fire Emblem Awakening, it was a big hit, because come on march, did not face any competition and the press fell in love.
Ah ha so THAT is why Anthem moved.
@PS_Nation This will probably have singleplayer fused with multiplayer. In the best scenario they will copy what they did with GTA V, and focus on single-player first, followed a few months later by a shift towards multiplayer.
It's what the contemporary gamers wants, and what most of our media wants. They don't want traditional, they want "new and innovative", which usually translates into lots of shallow multiplayer stuff.
18yrs to the day of the launch of the PS2 in NA. I want to get excited but the talk of microtransactions kinda turned me off. Gotta know more first.
@Frank90
That's definitely true, having a clear launch window is better than a crowded one. However, the average person who buys Read Dead Redemption 2 will have little to no interest in racing games and strategy games I think. I can't really see them contemplate 'should I buy Age of Empires or Read Dead Redemption 2 ?'. Unless they are made by a specific developer (e.g. Paradox, Codemasters) most racing games and strategy games get little to no coverage in the media, even on a clear launch window. I'm not necessarily speaking in terms of PS4 media coverage, which is quite good in my opinion, but media coverage as a whole (with PC included).
@get2sammyb im bettering Activision and ea are going to be concerned for call of duty and the new battlefield. Cant afford another public outcry of microtransactions while rockstar breathing down thier neck
Perfect .
Now give us Days Gone, Detroit, God of War & Spider-Man in between & I'm sorted.
Dreams can release whenever & still find an audience.
It's okay, more time to play monhun world and dbfz
good now they might have time to work on a PS4 port of the first one, or perhaps they could do like Fractured But Whole did and included the first game free with a purchase of the second
Not surprised and totally cool with it
@PS_Nation or Days Gone if it don't release in first half of 2018 : January to June
@thiz They had announced the game for Spring 2018, which it obviously won't be hitting now.
Now I have time to give the first one a go. Never tried psnow before
I knew it.October is cool word up son
Not surprising, Rockstar games always seem to have lots of delays. At least it should be a brilliant game once it eventually releases.
No problem. Gives me more time with my backlog! However, where are the release dates for Dreams and Days Gone?
Really looking forward to this one but I dont mind the delay. Thanks for not sending out an unfinished wreck.
Not surprised, but it's cool. The first half of this year is crazy with Monster Hunter, Shadow of the Colossus, God of War, MLB The Show 18 and Yakuza 6. And that's just what I'm getting on PS4. Still eyeing Crackdown 3 and a couple Switch games as well.
Cool Cool.
got over 80 games still to start so could will a few delays
Dammit!
In Rockstar we trust. Looking forward to giving somebody a rap on the beard in a saloon.
So they can incorporate MTs
I'm ok with the delay.Loved the original but there are so much more games due to come out this year and and that I'm more excited about so this can take its time.
Nope net year maybe.
@Danloaded Dont worry they told us all their future games will have microtransactions.
Perfect timing, I'll be neck deep in monster hunter world on PC by then. Then wait another year for RDR 2 on pc!
This will be my last day of classes in 2018 and most likely the first day of pax au. Gonna be a good weekend. Pax all day and red dead all night
My first feeling was disappointment because I want to play it so bad but it would've been crammed in with all the other games I'm wanting day one. Like God of War and assuming Spiderman comes out late spring/early summer. Plus now I know for sure there's a game I want late in the year.
Good ) now we've got time to play other games son
@Ralizah same here. Theyve also very clearly stated there will be microtransactions. So Ill wait and see if any of the multiplayer and MT will influence the SP, which is really the only thing Im interested in.
Good, this will give me time to dust off my chaps
As long as it came out good... it's ok by me. Sooooo looking forward to this game.
