So, The Evil Within 2 is getting a first-person mode for some reason, allowing you to play through the game from the perspective of its grizzled protagonist. An interesting addition, to say the least.
The mode is added via the game's latest patch, which means it obviously won't cost you a penny. We wonder how much it'll change the overall atmosphere of the game?
The Evil Within 2 launched to reasonable critical reception in October of last year, but it didn't exactly fly off store shelves and had its priced slashed mere weeks after release. It's nice to see developer Tango Gameworks continuing support, though.
Think you'll go back to The Evil Within 2 to try out this new first-person mode? Don't mention Resident Evil 7 in the comments section below.

What??
This is totally unexpected and great news. Finishing a bit of backlog first before buying this game. 1st mode is a great addition
That's odd? Maybe they are testing the water for a VR sequel? I can't see them continuing the series without a shake up and it seemed to work for Resi 7.
That said EW2 is really fantastic in my opinion. The openworld-lite thing it had going on was brill.
Oh, wow. That's awesome. Massive props to the devs for adding in an option like this for free.
Pretty cool, man. Unexpected but awesome.
VR mode please!
Props to them for adding new stuff, the recent PS4 Pro patch was also very good adding a 60fps option.
Hope we see Evil Within 3
@get2sammyb Slightly off topic, but where's the Secret of Mana remake review, it's due for release in 8 hours? 🤔
@Wunters They didn't send us code.
That had that single sewer bit in the game with this, so it's cool they're rolling out across the board. If it works though is another thing entirely...
Yep, this is awesome news. Still playing through TEW2, when I can, so I’ll give this a try.
@Cassetticons oh yeah forgot about that. Was my least favourite part to be fair.
@kyleforrester87 Yeah, nothing says fun like a single stealth section where you can't shoot a single bullet and the there's an insta kill enemy near the end. Ruined my playthrough on the hardest difficulty...
Noooope, now the game got too creepy for me. It's a nice option to have, for the Resident Evil 7 fans, but I'll stick with the less intimate 3rd-person view thank you very much.
I believe this was modded into the first game on PC, and someone also made a mod for this one as well. I'm actually wondering if it's a combined influence from RE7 and that, although the action in this game is a lot faster. Seems like FP mode would be awkward at best.
@kyleforrester87
I thought the open world-ness really took away from the atmosphere of the first game. It was cool when you discovered something in a random house, but it took away from the story aspect a lot.
Eh, first person is my least favorite perspective for games so I won't be trying this.
TEW2 was not as good as the original, but still pretty good. I'm hoping they make a third.
Now it caught my attention...
great game on my second playthough
Well considering the first person section in the game was one of my favorite parts I'm real excited to finally start my new game plus and play through it fully in first person
@jacobia
Same here, taking my time with it. I love to roam the streets and stealth killing zombies one by one.
Not sure 1st person would work for me but I appreciate the option.
I'll be heading for play through 3 as soon as that pesky Colossi 16 has been dealt with...perfect timing!!
i found it so clunky when i tried to play it, only lasted like 2 hours. ill go back and give this a go though at some stage when theres a lull in new releases
Im someone who wished i could play EVERY game in 1st person!
Id almost love the game if it werent for 2 things, the 3rd person view (my own character constantly blocking my view while i try to sneak around ugh)
and the janky floaty controls especially when aiming/shooting.
So thats half of the problem fixed for me! But i tried the new perspective mode today and it still controls like total butt unfortunately. But i will def keep it in FP mode for now on.
I just noticed the game is currently on sale in the European store, 62% off.
ooh,i like it.Never played the first one or the sequel because i am mostly not that into third person games..This looks pretty good.
