Gone are the days when you had to rely on Sony to localise Yakuza games, as SEGA has announced that Yakuza: Kiwami 2 will brawl to Western shores from 28th August. Announced on an official stream earlier this evening, the title is a full remake of PlayStation 2 instalment Yakuza 2, built using the brand new Yakuza 6: The Song of Life engine.
There’s an announcement trailer embedded above. Good news, eh, guys?
Update: As with Yakuza: Kiwami and Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, there'll be a steelbook edition available to those of you who pre-order. We've included an image of that above. You can learn more about the game on the title's official website.

Yes, yes, yes.
Glad it's finally coming over to the west.
After this release do we have the entire Yakuza serie on ps4 or a we still missing some?
@Ridwaano Yakuza 3, 4, and 5. (Though you can play 4 and 5 via PS Now, I think.) There are also various spin-offs, like Dead Souls and Kenzan, etc.
So no, there's lots of milking to do yet.
sigh
One day I'll get around to playing these games. By the time I've played all of the interesting PS4 games out there, they'll have moved on to the PS6.
I'd love to see the entire series get re-released on PS4.
Hopefully they remake 3 next and then they can just pretty much port 4 and 5 with minimal touch ups since they were ps3 games that way we have the whole series on ps4
Awesome. I've been looking forward to it since I finished Kiwami last year. I'm thinking I'll play that again as preparation for this.
Totally want that steelbook too. Managed to get the one for Kiwami (despite not preordering) and it will complement it nicely.
@dark_knightmare2 i think sega will be done with the remakes after this. there is far less need to remake a ps3 era game... however, a remaster collection of parts 3-5 for ps4 would be fantastic.
Nice! Can't wait to play this after 6
Great news, Yakuza 2 was a huge step up from the original Yakuza back in the day on PS2. The story is far, far superior — it's like the game that really solidified the series' amazing storytelling. Can't wait to see it remade in dat Dragon Engine.
Cool trailer. I still need to play 0 and K1.
Does “Yakuza” mean “fighting without a shirt” in Japanese?
@Th3solution It actually comes from a Japanese card game where of you lose you yell Ya-ku-za, kinda like how in bingo you yell bingo when you win.

@Tasuki Omg, that is so cool. I was joking in my comment of course because of the heavy emphasis on topless dudes in the trailer, but I always knew it meant “gangster” but didn’t know it came first from a card game. I guess Japanese gangsters play a lot of cards.
2 Yakuza games coming out in the same year. Just like last year with 0 and the first Kiwami. Hard to believe that Yakuza 5 at one time was never going to be released outside of Japan. Now how about that Fist of the North Star game?
Great news! Yakuza 0 and Kiwami was great so Kiwami 2 is Must-have for me
That steelbook edition is mine hoho
Finally!
There’s no such thing as too much Yakuza.
i am so fudging happy, lets hope 2019 has hokuto ga gotoku and shin yakuza /yakuza 7 (i think it is coming to jp this year so this makes sense)
Sold. This is the only yakuza game that i dont have (bar the Japanese only releases). Isnt this being released day and date a year after kiwami. At least now we are caught up to Japan we should never face a long wait for a Yakuza game to travel west again.
Interestingly Yakuza team also announced yesterday that they are considering Yakuza 0-2 at the moment: https://www.dualshockers.com/yakuza-0-2-considered-shin-yakuza-details/
More Majima Goodness! Seriously he's got to be one of the best characters in a game in years
We're getting so much Yakuza right now I'm struggling to keep up. It's great to see the series finally getting the recognition it deserves, though.
I so glad I decided to wait on pre-ordering Y6 now. Time to pre-order this instead.
Now I have an issue. I dont want to jump to 6 when kiwami 2 is later in the year for fear of spoilers
Cannot wait, so excited. Looking forward to the remakes of the rest of the series, especially 3, which I hear had a botched localisation. As much as I loved 0 and Kiwami, I kind of don't want to go straight into 6 without playing through the rest (even with it having the backstory stuff for newcomers).
I'll at least be satisfied with Kiwami 3, then I can go back to 4 and 5 on PS3 if I'm too impatient to wait for those remakes.
Awesome! I jumped from Kiwami to 3, 4 and 5 to be prepped for 6 and skipped 2 since I knew the remake would eventually come. Never had the feeling that I missed much. Guess 2 has a very self contained plot.
YESSSS!! Get ready for the best game in the series!
@Athrum We already have Yakuza 0!
Pfff please. 0 is good but the story on 2 is heaps and bounds better.
The only issue with 2 is that nt many people played it.
@Athrum NO. (never played 2 btw lol)
Great! I was starting to get a little nervous we might not get this.
@Th3solution has more to do with the gambling houses the Bakuto (gamblers) ran (still run actually) back in the day. due to gambling being a big no no. They were originally the peddler class (street vendors and traveling vendors) that were kicked around by the actual merchant class (because you had to pay to be in merchant guilds and if you are barely making ends meet...not going to happen.) But the yakuza colloquial term (they arent called that by themselves or the police) is for the gamblers but it got lumped into one generic term over time.
