Yes, you read that right. Final Fantasy XV, a game released in November 2016, will receive another four pieces of downloadable content in 2019. 2019!
Announced at a PAX East panel, the episodes are set to focus on Ardyn, Aranea, Lunafreya, and will conclude with Noctis in a final battle to secure a future for his people. Alongside that, it was revealed that another franchise crossover event will be coming to the game later this year, as it pays homage to the upcoming Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
That's a whole lot more Final Fantasy XV coming our way. Are you excited? Let us know in the comments below.

I'm sure there will be people in the comments telling us this is a great idea and we should stop picking on Final Fantasy XV, but this is honestly one of the stupidest things I've ever seen.
You've got to laugh.
The DLC episodes in 2017 were fine, if not all that great, but this is just insane.
I know it's "even more extra content", but FFXV just is not one of those games that anyone endlessly plays. It's not a service game that people play forever, it has a single player campaign and a bit of DLC that people might like to flesh out the main story a bit. To continuously pump out average story content is just a waste of talent if you ask me - they could put their effort towards something so much better and so much more appreciated, which is a shame.
I just wish I hadn't bought it. Not that I didn't enjoy the game, far from it, but had I waited more I could've gotten the whole picture. There's no chance I'm playing FFXV again in 2019
It's there for those that want it I guess, no skin off my nose.
Maybe one day I'll sit down and play through all the DLC.. maybe..
This makes me angry honestly. I'm not replaying the game that I bought on release just to experience the whole story. I feel so burned for playing it on release. What a joke.
@Tulio517 Exactly. It's like a middle finger to people who already played it. It's a single player game. I don thave time to sink into playing it again.
Not started it yet ill wait untill 2020. BTW what a bull that Royal Edition....
@Flaming_Kaiser yeah I don't agree that the original release is a middle finger to gamers, I played it and felt I got monies worth. But releasing a Royal Edition, then announcing another year of DLC a few weeks later is questionable.
Yeah, the game was finished at launch. It had massive holes, but it was definitely finished. Taking a year out and then releasing DLC episodes in 2019 is bizarre to me, though. Truly bizarre.
@get2sammyb Ridiculous, right?!?
I wonder how much it'll all cost...
Asking for a friend.
By the time I played this game, the final bits of the DLC had already been released, so I got a very nice experience out of it. I honestly do feel bad for anyone who played the game at launch.
That said, right after I finished it they announced the Royal Edition.
Hard pass for now, as there's no way I'm going through the game again right now. I truly enjoyed my time with the game and although many aspects of it were frustrating or even broken completely, I found myself sad to see it end when the credits rolled. Once this next wave of DLC is all on the market and they release a Royal With Cheese Edition, I'll pick it up and go through it all again. I think by that point I'll be ready.
@glassmusic lol Royal with Cheese. Ace.
@get2sammyb I am a huge final fantasy fan and enjoyed 15 for what it's worth but they need to let this game go already. It wasn't outstanding by any means so I don't know why they just want to keep it alive. I can't understand why they are not moving on to the next installment.
At this point I imagine I'm in the same boat as a lot of other people. It's nice that all of this is coming for people who really love the game, but like the article says, it's 2019! 2019!
I really enjoyed playing Final Fantasy XV for review. Found it quite refreshing, I loved the world, and despite its many, many flaws, I had a good time.
Would I play it again to see a new ending, or a new story path, or a few extra cutscenes? Absolutely not, and it doesn't help that the majority of the DLC has been below par.
Honestly, FFXV was a bizarre game to begin with, but the fact it's been supported for this long is mind-blowing. I know I don't speak for everyone, but it's time to stop. It was time to stop a long while ago.
Final final final fantasy... Oh wait I missed a final out.
P.S. I'm not reviewing any of this ****.
@ShogunRok The world will not be the same without you reviewing FFXV DLC.
@Tulio517 you know, you say that sarcastically, but everyone knows about the butterfly effect..
Whoa, this is getting ridiculous 😯
@ShogunRok #17 ahahahahah I get the feeling they keep making this stuff just to torture you 😆
Just give us release dates for Kingdom Hearts 3 and FF7 remake.
Let this go, FFXV was decent, but its time to move on.
I'd bet that when 2020 rolls around then FFXVI will be announced as a new MMO to replace FFXIV as it'll have been a good few years since it released and hey, they'll keep XIV around for a lot more years if XI is anything to go by.
I wonder what a better option would have been: Having all this extra DLC or the game spending extra time in development in order to integrate all this into the game? I'm legitimately curious.
Cool. Ardyn is awesome & Luna was criminally ignored in the main game.
Guess I’ll wait another year before playing all the DLC at once.
No wonder FFVII development is dragging. Everyone’s still working on FFXV!
XV was the first FF I was really able to get into since VI. And now Square has found a way to get me completely disinterested in the franchise again. Move on already! Maybe put time in on XVI and make sure it's not a convoluted mess!
Sigh, at this point every gamer has a personal saga with this game.
I started not liking it at all on release. Then liking the story tweaks after about 8 months, but felt the DLC and combat sucked. Then preferring Comrades to everything else. Then not caring about anything regarding this stilted FF entry.
Movie was fun at least.
And this, my friends, is why Kingdom Hearts 3 hasn't seen the light of day yet. Be done with FFXV, Square Enix, it's a story-based game, for God's sake!
Seriously? I only played the main campaign and it was more than enough.
@ShogunRok You guys should review all the dlcs and then the definitive edition on PS5. It will be fun.
@nessisonett First, Square-Enix will release the battle royale mode of FF XV.
@glassmusic royal with cheese, nice
I don't care for dlc that isn't integrated into the regular game. I like it much more when it's like ac origins and Witcher 3. But I'm a sucker for ff so I'll buy it.
Will there be another season pass?
@kyleforrester87 Smart thing to do if you want to kill of the sales of your product. 😁
Final Fantasy 7 i think will be a big joke. I really wanted the game but seeing nothing is complete with Square Enix anymore makes me sad. I just wanted to play a better looking Final Fantasy 7 maybe a little extra content. At least there is enough to play now funny to see that if you want a classic RPG you have to look at the smaller studio's. Fell Seal: Arbiter’s Mark looks cool and Eternity: The Last Unicorn.
I wouldn't care about this, except we're talking about a company that is extremely inefficient when it comes to managing other game releases so I'm not sure they should be messing around with more content for a game already rife with it.
Come on Square! Give me a Final Fantasy Tactics remaster and I'll buy this just to support you. But you're not exciting me these days! What happened?
Never Ending Fantasy XV.
I’ll get and play all the DLC eventually, but it time to move onto FFXV-2. I mean it’s fine if they want to continue it, but they need to get out of the idea of making DLC for it forever. Make a sequel. That’s where the potential is. Make better side-quests we’ve got ourselves an even more amazing game.
Just make final fantasy 16 already squareenix!
YES YES YES
I'd rather be on a bus going past Anfield or Conor Mcgregor's house than play this.
@glassmusic @kyleforrester87 I actually watched Pulp Fiction yesterday for the umpteenth time, because why not? But you guys putting it like that, and everything comes awfully close, doesn't it?
@Kidfried Isn't it weird how extra content can put you off buying a game? I want to play it too, but with all the DLC, I see no reason to buy it right now when it's probably cheaper, and has more content next year.
I wonder what comes first, FFVII, or the end of XV DLC?
Nice. The more, the merrier!
@Jaz007 I don't think a sequel would sell well. Not that these DLCs will, but alas. Not sure what SE is thinking but I'm not complaining
@ZaPaMi3 how is it a middle finger to gamers
was the extra content for Assassin's Creed Origins a middle finger
was the extra content for Skyrim a middle finger
DLC is par for the course now a days and not just in big AAA titles, say in Minecraft for example you don't get any of the Mash up packs or skin packs when you buy the game, is that the middle finger too
what about COD, you don't get every map, how about Forza, you don't get every Car or Track, what about fighting games when they release new characters? how about pretty much ANY MMO, why don't they give the expansions for free after all we brought the base game right?
EVERY company does it, do we like every DLC they release, NO but you don't HAVE to buy it as for this DLC, Square ASKED the players last year what they want to be added to FFXV, these are the thing the players asked for, so what's the issue? apart from how long it's going to take, next year IS too long i will admit but again plenty of single player games have story DLC, it's how it is now a days, do we have to like it no but it's not changing anytime soon
@FullbringIchigo Have you played the game? Huge chinks of story purposefully removed to be sold as dlc. Assassin's Creed Origins is a massive game without the extras. People are asking for a more fleshed out story. Instead of huge plot holes. It's a single player rpg. Not maps for a multiplayer shooter.
The way they are milking this game you'll be playing the PS5 FF15 Royal True 4k Edition with even more DLC added that won't come to the PS4 version
@ZaPaMi3 yes i have played it and for one they wasn't purposely removed, they just wasn't finished by the time Square HAD to release the game in order to fulfil the contracts they had with Sony and MS
and two the version of the game we got was only in development for 2 or 3 years as they had to scrap the old one and start again
also you missed the point i was saying, you said it was a middle finger because it wasn't complete at launch we neither was any of those games i mentioned despite the different genres of games they are, they released extra content that added more stuff to the games AFTER launch such as AC Origins story DLC and charged you for it, why ain't that the middle finger?
now don't get me wrong the game was mismanaged terribly jumping from one system to another changing the game engine at least 3 times and i believe the entire production team at least once but i thoroughly enjoyed my time with FFXV and as it stands right now the game is fine
am i a bit peeved about having to buy all this extra content yeah a bit but i'm still happy with the overall experience i have had with the game and would still recommend to people to play the game at least once
@FullbringIchigo I haven't bought Origins doc and the base game is massive and entertaining enough. But the point is the story for XV was not complete. Big difference. I'm glad you enjoyed it. And I know all about the development hell. I was dissapoitned by XV, I expected way more from the story. I feel like they are wasting resources on this trying to make their money back than actually doing some worthwhile. I almost never buy dlc for any game. I bought maps for Modern Warfare 1 my last year of high school in 2008. But typically I do not buy any.
@ZaPaMi3 yeah the story wasn't the best the series ever had, i would say it was middle ground in terms of FF stories (i would say FFIII had the worse and FFIX had the best) although XV's ending was pretty good, better than most of the others i would say
@ZaPaMi3 "Huge chinks of story purposefully removed to be sold as dlc"
Gotta love these factual facts that are 100% factual
Do they just have no idea where to take final fantasy 16 or something? Why release a 'royal' edition to then make it incomplete again a few months later?
Fantastic news. I still play games that came out in the 90s so I'd be a hypocrite to complain about new content three years after release. I wish there was new content for ff8!
Well I have not start with the game yet. Guess I won't this year too
@kyleforrester87 In all fairness they announced this extra DLC late last year, before we even knew of the Royal Edition.
@get2sammyb I mean it was funny before, but now it's sad to the point that I feel bad for Ramsey.
How can this possibly still be happpening?
That “Royal Edition” is sounding more like a “Royal Dump on fans that bought the Day One edition for no reason at all Edition”
@Neolit spoiler tags don't work anymore for some reason
@ShogunRok I wonder what the alternative is though, this or two XV sequels like they did with XIII cos Square Enix are hellbent on making the most of it.
@adf86 I think a second game could have been really, really good to be honest. FFXV is an enjoyable game in its own way, but a quick sequel could have very easily built on everything it does right. I don't know whether many people agree with me but I think FFXIII-2 is a better game than FFXIII, for example.
But you're right, Square was always going to milk it to death either way.
@ShogunRok I can see the value in adding more content but I also understand why people feel their might be missing out on key plot points that weren't covered in the main game.
Since your using your position at Push Square to insist that you "won't review this ****" does that mean @get2sammb can overrule you so that you have too?
@naruball You're telling me they had no intention of not telling us where our party members went when they disappeared for parts of the story?
@ShogunRok but the way the game ends makes a sequel almost impossible unless they do a FFXIII-2 and completely retcon the original games ending (and i agree XIII-2 was batter than XIII)
@ZaPaMi3 maybe after all the story was from Noctis point remember as we was playing as him doing something else while they was gone but if i remember correctly that wasn't the case, they just wasn't finished by the time they had to release the game to fulfil their contracts with Sony and MS, FFXV had a VERY troubled production you know
@FullbringIchigo Oh I know all about the troubled production, and I still bought into the hype and was actually excited for the story. And what a disappointment. Too much changed from the original vision and I just feel like they need to let it go. Move on.
@get2sammyb Yeah it's so amazingly weird. Just... Why? Are these dlcs making them THAT much money? I played the game when it came out, and it was... servicable. It definitely didn't deserve this much dlc. And what the heck is that picture even on the top of this page? Lol.
@ZaPaMi3 Yes, that is possible. Happens to games and movies all the time. The real questions is, did the original FFXV that came out without all the DLC have enough content to justify the 60 USD price?
I, for one, believe that it did.
@naruball It’s a better idea than FFXIII-2&3 for sales. With some good reception it would probably sell pretty well.
ive never played XV but was planning to sometime this year, is this good news for me lol?
@Jaz007 I know that FFXIII-3 didn't sell well, but I think FFXIII-2 sold over 2m copies. Doubt this will be as successful but I hope I'm wrong.
@naruball How much did FFXV sell?
@Jaz007 The last report was 7 million (I think it was from January).
And for those who think nobady wants more FFXV, the Royal Pack DLC is number 10 in the DLC chart of PS Store Europe (https://blog.eu.playstation.com/2018/04/09/far-cry-5-was-the-best-selling-game-on-playstation-store-last-month/). Not bad.
Damn, that's crazy...now I'm unsure if I should buy Royal Edition during BF 2018 and wait for the 2nd Season Pass to go on sale, or if I should hold out for a true Complete Edition sometime in Late 2019 or 2020?
Your thoughts @LiamCroft?
@ToddlerNaruto If you've managed to hold out this long, I'd just wait for a final complete edition. The existence of the Royal version shows that they're fine with releasing a perceived complete edition and then announcing another batch of DLC after its release. So if you can, I'd wait. Or there's the inevitable PS5 remaster.
@LiamCroft Hmm good point. I already own the base game so at least I could play the main story without having to wait for the true complete edition.
